Tina (tinatome) | 28 comments I read this in the early 2000s, but it was written long before that. It's a short story that is set in the future. People are able to go to centers and have their bodies upgraded (?); for example you gain a lot of weight, they can swap the overweight body with a new perfect one (which is actually what happens with the MC). All your thoughts and memories are transferred to the new body. ***POTENTIAL SPOILER*** The thing is, the body you currently have retains everything as well but you are sent to a farm(?) to do slave labor. It is mention that the MC has been there several times (and sees his other selves) and still hasn't learned his lesson.

Tina, I added the example to the topic header. Feel free to update.

Did you read this short story in a sci-fi anthology / collection (please describe it)?

Yes! Thank you so much! This cn be moved to solved

To answer Kris's question, I thought I had read it in Masterpieces: The Best Science Fiction of the Twentieth Century, but I went through every story. I guess subconsciously I felt like it had to do with Orson Scott Card, lol
