I've set up some Group Challenges for the new year, 2015.

Our Group Challenges let you set a reading goal for yourself to read a certain number of books that fit the criteria of that Challenge. It's a SF&F-oriented complement to the Goodreads Annual Reading Challenge. Because each Challenge lets you set your own goal for the number of books you want to read, it's a form of self motivation, not a competition.

The SF&F 2015 Reading Challenge   The SF&F 2015 Reading Challenge

Set yourself a goal for reading Science Fiction and Fantasy books in 2015.

The SF&F 2015 Discussion Challenge   The SF&F 2015 Discussion Challenge

Set yourself a goal for reading Science Fiction and Fantasy selected by our group for discussion in 2015. Join the conversations!

The SF&F 2015 Explorer Challenge   The SF&F 2015 Explorer Challenge

Set yourself a goal to read SF&F books by authors you've never read before. Explore new worlds, find new favorites!

The SF&F 2015 Award Challenge   The SF&F 2015 Awards Challenge

Set yourself a goal to read SF&F books which have won awards, such as the Hugo and Nebula, or any other award.

The SF&F 2015 Graphic Challenge   The SF&F 2015 Graphic Novel Challenge

Set yourself a goal to read SF&F Graphic Novels in 2015.

The SF&F 2015 Short Works Challenge   The SF&F 2015 Short Works Challenge

For lovers of SF&F short stories, novelettes, novella, anthologies & collections.

Note that Goodreads only displays two Group Challenges at the top of the Group Homepage. To see all the Challenges for the group, you can click on "More challenges..." below the Challenges section on the Homepage.

You can see all our challenges, current and past, in the Group Challenges page.

How To Set Up A Group Challenge Goal

Click on one of the Challenges listed above to get to the Challenge's page.

Then, enter the number of books you want to read for that challenge.

Finally, enter the name of a shelf on your personal bookshelf where you'll put the qualifying books. E.g., I use sff-2015-reading-challenge, sff-2015-explorer-challenge, sff-2015-discussion-challenge, and so on. (Unlike the Goodreads Reading Challenge, only books you add to the designated bookshelf will count towards your Group Challenge. (You also need to mark the book as "read" and set the "date read" of the book within the Challenge's period for it to count toward your goal.) Using designated bookshelves for each Challenge lets you read books that don't count toward your challenge, maybe even something that isn't science fiction or fantasy (assuming such things exist.)

Remember to add the bookshelf to books you want to count towards your goal. If a book counts towards more than one challenge goal, be sure to place the book on all the appropriate shelves.

FYI, I've opened up the The SF&F 2015 Short Works Challenge for short story / novella / etc readers (and updated the first post to include it.)

We've reached the midpoint of the year, so I thought I'd remind those members who joined us in the year so far that we have a set of Group Reading Challenges set up for self-motivation.

It's not too late to sign up: Just set yourself a goal for the remaining half of the year.

Just scroll back up to the top of this Topic to read all about them and how to sign up.

Reminder:
It's the 1st of December, the final month of the year. Those who signed up for one or more of our Group Reading Challenges only have a month left to reach your goals!

Remember for a book to count toward your challenge, you have to shelve it on the challenge shelf you designated when you signed up for the challenge and set the "date read" to a date within 2015.

Note that Goodreads only displays two Group Challenges at the top of the Group Home page. You can see all six of our 2015 Group Reading Challenges here. (See the first message in this topic for a full description of each Challenge.)
