Ruth Zhuo | 3 comments Hi there! I’m recently into British crime fiction, and am a huge fan of Agatha Christie, Cara Hunter, Mark Billingham and Angela Marsons. Other authors I’ve newly discovered and really like as well are Robert Bryndza and Tim Weaver. A favourite of this year is Alex Michaelides’ The Silent Patient.

I’m looking for contemporary British crime authors who write a fast-paced, twisty book with good story and character development. And I’m wondering whether based on the above authors I listed, would anyone be able to recommend me more of such authors? Thank you so much! :)

Maureen Carden | 186 comments Sharon Bolton is the Queen of twisty and is a huge favorite on goodreads. She was doing twisty way before it became popular, and doing it better. First she was doing some terrific rural noirs, then she did her four book Lacey Flint series of a London detective constable. Years later fans are still begging for more Lacey. After Lacey, Bolton did some outstanding standalones. Little Black Lies and The Craftsmen were masterpieces. In my humble opinion. I had a few book club members calling me after they finished those two just screaming about the endings. They were that shocked. Bolton just released a new book, The Split that was a pleasure to read.

Zoe Sharp is wonderful. One series is Charlie Fox who is a close protection specialist. She has recently started a trilogy about a CSI and detective constable. Hard to chose my favorite.

If you wanted to travel back to the Victorian age, I highly recommend Annelie Wendeberg's Keeper of the Pleas and Spider Silk.

Gary Van Cott | 63 comments I have really enjoyed two Scottish authors Ian Rankin and Stuart MacBride (some of his early books are a bit gory).

I have enjoyed the Zoe Sharp, Charlie Fox books.

Maureen Carden | 186 comments Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks-straightforward police procedural
Elizabeth George. They are ok, but she definitely jumped the shark.
Helen Fields - Police Scotland. Terrific series.

Carol Leonard | 12 comments I love Scottish mysteries. Anyone read JD Kirk, Robert McNeill? Also Angela Marsons, Anne Cleeland,.there are discoveries on Kindle unlimited like JR Ellis and so many others. Roy Lewis is fabulous..older (pre-cell phone), but combines a keen interest in finance with a marvelous style, settled homelife..honest and bold hero.
