Rainbowheart | 19026 comments Sounds like the plot of the movie Night Crossing, but I'm not sure it was based on a book.

Jayme (malletqueen) | 5 comments That movie is based on a book, and I ordered and read it, but it doesn’t have a narrator and would be too difficult for most elementary-aged children. Thank you for suggesting it, though! Any other ideas? The other one that I could find was only published recently so couldn’t be it ....

Jayme (malletqueen) | 5 comments Flight toward home might be it. I’ll try to find a copy! Thank you!

Flight for freedom was only published this year, so it’s not that one, but it looks like a good book!

Note: The original German title of Flight Toward Home by Wolfgang Ecke - Rainbowheart's suggestion - is "Flucht: die Geschichte einer Reise von Deutschland nach Deutschland" according to Worldcat.org.

Jayme (malletqueen) | 5 comments Flight Toward Home was a really good book, but unfortunately, it is not the one I am looking for. The one I read talked about the wall specifically and the minefield. And I'm fairly certain there was a balloon of some sort. Any other suggestions?

Jayme (malletqueen) | 5 comments No, I don’t think that’s it. The book is set after the Wall was built.
