Cassandra | 80 comments Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and read some books in the beautiful weather on Saturday.

I started reading It Devours!, the second Welcome to Night Vale novel. It's pretty weird and fun so far, just like the podcast it's based on. My goal is to get through a few chapters each night before bed, and that routine is working out well so far.

Is anyone else getting reading suggestions that they're tabling for later because they're too close at the moment? Goodreads suggested Five Feet Apart, which was apparently chosen as a Goodreads favorite last year. A story about two teens with respiratory issues not being able to come within five feet of each other is too on the nose.

Going in the opposite direction, does anyone have a favorite humor writer? I'm thinking some David Sedaris might be good right now.

Mirkat | 276 comments I am concurrently reading the Forever YA book club's May selection, Shine , and listening to the audio of version of the club's June selection, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder . I am enjoying both. Though, with both featuring a protagonist who is a 17-year-old girl investigating a mystery, my brain sometimes blends them. :)

I endorse David Sedaris. Hilarious!

Lauren C | 81 comments Another good humor recommendation is Haven Kimmel's A Girl Named Zippy-- it makes me laugh out loud every time I read it.

Mirkat | 276 comments Ooh, I have "Zippy" on my bookshelf at home and haven't read it yet--good to know!

Kate | 297 comments Have you read anything by Laurie Notaro or Sloane Crosley? I would recommend The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life and I Was Told There'd Be Cake

Cassandra | 80 comments Thank you for your suggestions! I tend to jump into young adult books when I'm looking for a fun read, but it's good to try new things.

Some books I ordered came today. I'm especially excited about The King of Crows, the most recent installment in Libba Bray's Diviners series. Which reminds me, if you're looking for a funny read, Beauty Queens is pretty hilarious.

Kate | 297 comments Beauty Queens has been on my TBR pile for a long time. Maybe I will give it a try soon!

message 8: by Mirkat (new)

Mirkat | 276 comments Finished A Good Girl's Guide to Murder yesterday and started She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement today. I'm 82% of the way into Shine.

Mirkat | 276 comments And I just-now finished Shine. Sorting out how I feel about it.

Judi | 14 comments Right now I’m reading “The Book of Lost Friends” by Lisa Wingate. Can’t put it down.

I've heard she's really good, but I haven't read anything by her yet- I'll add that one to my list! Thanks!

Anne | 3 comments I just searched the Albany library for the book of lost friends and was surprised that I couldn’t find any version. 😞

Hi Anne,
Sometimes the downloadable services are a little tricky to search-- it does seem like it is available through our Overdrive service, in both ebook and audiobook: here. There is a waitlist for both, but at least they are there!
