Favorite: Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
Least Fav: Tess of the D'Ubervilles...the author needed to edit badly. It should have been a novella.
Easiest read was Man Up! by Ross Matthews because I could hear him read aloud the book to me as I was reading it.
Hardest to read was Matterhorn because I read it on audiobook during my lunch break and Vietnam War realities does not make for appetizing reading. Great book though!
Read again would have to be the 8th installment of the Jamie and Claire saga. I cannot wait another 5 years for the next one.
New Series: Cormoran Strike Crime novels by Robert Galbraith (aka J. K. Rowling). Not my normal genre, but I will read anything by that woman. :)
Favorite: that's a hard one, but the top 5 are- Silent on the Moor by Deanna Raybourn, Mr. Churchill's Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal, 7th Grave & No Body by Darynda Jones, The Lavendar Garden by Lucinda Riley, and Somewhere in France by Jennifer Robson.
Least Favorite: 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northup
Easiest to Read: Any of the Women's Murder Club by James Patterson
Hardest to Read: 12 years a Slave by Solomon Northup
Most likely to read again: most of them
Will definitely recommend to friends- Maggie Hope Series, the Lady Julia Grey Series, The lavender Garden by Lucinda Riley, The Gaslight Mysteries by Victoria Thompson...
A book you couldn't finish- The Shining by Stephen King
A new series you discovered- Maggie Hope Series by Susan Elia MacNeal and the Lady Julia Grey Series by Deanna Raybourn
Favorite book & Easiest to Read - Gone with the WindLeast Favorite book - The Enemy at this point. Just slowly plugging along slowly.
Book I couldn't finish - a romance book about Navy Seals. I thought it was one book, but it was a group of stories. I couldn't get into the characters since each story was so short.
New Series - The Lunar Chronicles & I enjoyed the Divergent Trilogy.
I finished the challenge the other night! Very excited!
Looking forward to next year everyone!
where and how do we turn in our final book count? and is there an event for the prize drawing, like will it be done at one of the branches and we can attend?
I read 30 books this year, missing my goal by of 52 by 22 books. I'll keep trying, though. I need to listen to books in my car; I can get more reading done in a day that way, right? :)Here is my list:
Favorite book: The promise of stardust by Priscille Sibley;
Least favorite book: Always something there to remind you by Elizabeth M. Harbison (too unbelievable);
Easiest to read: Shopaholic to the stars by Sophie Kinsella;
Hardest to read: Columbine by Dave Cullen and Newtown : an American tragedy by Matthew Lysiak;
Most likely to read again: The book thief by Markus Zusak (lovely writing);
Will definitely recommend to friends: Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight (picked it up to read because of the cover and it was a good book);
A book you couldn't finish (although I will try again!): Under the dome by Stephen King;
A new series you discovered: I actually re-discovered the Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis novels by Jonathan Kellerman with Killer.
Congratulations to everyone! Regardless of finishing the challenge, everyone took on a hefty goal and did something pretty amazing this past year. I'm so glad I was able to be a part of it.I'll be putting up a new thread shortly with some information about the prize drawing for 2014 and what's going on with the challenge for 2015.
Been meaning to answer this one, so here goes!Favorite book

Here are my answers to the above questions:
Favorite book
I don't want to pick just one... but if I am forced to choose only one book, it would be The Martian by Andy Weir. Not only is it a debut, there is already talk of it being made into a movie. It was fast paced and easy to read despite there being tons of science facts and explanations.
Least favorite book
Out of all the books I finished, my least favorite was probably Allegiant by Veronica Roth. I really enjoyed the first Divergent book but was pretty unimpressed by the conclusion to the trilogy.
Easiest to read
NPCs by Drew Hayes was super easy to read because it was very short and packed with action. Despite this, it was a super fun read and I recommend it to anyone who likes tabletop RPGs or MMOs.
Hardest to read
I have to use two books to answer this question. Tampa by Alissa Nutting was probably the hardest to read because of its content. There's some pretty creepy stuff going on there. S. by Doug Dorst and J.J. Abrams was also difficult to get through due to all of the extras that are stuffed inside the book. It can be easy to lose your place or concentration when you constantly have to read notes written in the margins or consult a map drawn on a napkin that has been hastily stuffed into the book.
Most likely to read again
Without a doubt, I will reread The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I listened to it on audiobook and would love to sit down and actually read it next time.
Will definitely recommend to friends Since a lot of my friends are gamers, I think I would recommend Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. It is such an awesome book and takes on the subject of the future of gaming quite well.
A book you couldn't finish
I didn't finish a couple of books this year. Namely A Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin and The Stand by Stephen King. I liked both books, but each was very long and involved. I found myself putting them down to read other books and finally resigned myself to not finishing either one this year. There's always next year...
A new series you discovered
I discovered the White Trash Zombie novels, and even though they sound super trashy, they aren't! They are well written and super entertaining, with a strong female lead who isn't a typical zombie slayer. She is a zombie.
