" Kyle, Kyle!" His screams were desperate. He could feel every heartbeat in the tips of his numb fingers. His clothes were heavy with water, the cold air slicing through him like knife.

He looked around desperately, looking for Kyle. The ocean sprays him with icy cold water, making his already soaking body even colder. "Kyle!" he screamed louder, walking slowly up the beach, dragging his numb feet. "KYLE!!!" he screams, looking around, eyes wide.
Then he see's a lone car sitting in the parking lot, he slowly begins to walk towards it. It's like a gravitational force, beckoning him towards it, NO, daring him towards it.
He crosses the beach grass into the parking lot, calling Kyle. "Kyle!" he yells, coming closer to the lone car.
His heart beats rapidly, like the wings of a bird. NO, that's not his heart, its... a bird. But its mid-winter, he thought.
The bird was beckoning him, to go towards the car.
He thinks back to when his heart had felt like a bird, fluttering inside him, wanting out. He did not remember what happened, but it did not go well. "Are you in there?" he yells to the car. The driver's door is open and something is sitting there. Something, not someone.
He stops, frozen. The bird looks back at him, suddenly he relizes that the birds eyes were black pits, nothingness. His screams were drowned out by the menacing noises the creature inside the car made.
No. No. It couldn't be. Kyle, the only one alive. The only one he had ever known... turned in to one of those... those things.
The bird landed on the ground, it started to change. morph into a shape, a HUMAN form. It looked him dead in the eyes, black pits. Nothingness.
No. No. There's two of them. How that one was a bird, he had no idea. Maybe he is hallucinating. It's not like he had eaten that day.
"Jessica." he mumbled, the creature limping toward him. He took out his knife. "D-don't make me have to do this!" he yelled. The creature emerged. "I just.. I just want you to know..." he holds the knife closer. "I...I didn't mean to kill you. I swear...and I...I love you." the creature was only a foot away and he ran forward and stabbed the knife into its forehead, making sure that it does not come back.
The creature crumpled to the floor the vanished. His knife came back torn it pieces and covered in inchor.
The creature lies there, unmoving, only the smallest twitch would scare him. He had to run. The creature in the car its seat belt on, so it wouldn't be able to move, but he could not bear to see Kyle as a creature.
His mind screamed for him to turn and run, but his body disobeyed. He stood there and took it all in, from rising from the water to seeing Kyle to killing Jessica.... again. It was silent for a moment, the silence was good, well needed. Then, without a moments hesitation, the creature that was Kyle quickly snacheted the seatbelt off of himself, not bothering to unbuckle it. His hands were no longer hands, they were disembodied, with long claws or talons putruding from them. The creature turned and stared at him for a moment the ran towards him. Within seconds it was black and the world around him morphed.
Get away, get away, get away! his mind screamed at him. Spots of black darted across his vision, terror filled his body. Kyle was not Kyle. He was a creature of some sort, a creature that ate people.
Dammit! he thought, he had dropped his knife and was now armless. His mind raced back to when he and Kyle were kids, Kyle just a few years older then him. He was his mentor, he had taught him how to fight. He had told him once that anything could be used as a weapon. They were at a slow walking pace, he was backing away, they had done this till his feet found the sand again. He had remembered seeing a few sticks in the sand, mabey he could use those. NO! he thought his bracelet! he slowly looked down at his wrist, it was bloody, wait demons dinit bleed, it was his blood. He now saw that he had not beaten the demon, he had not risen out of the water and found this car. He was in his house and he was in his living room. It was cold, his throught hurt like her was yelling. Then it all came rushing back to him.
PLOT TWIST!!!
Kyle had been bitten. Bitten by one of them. "K-kyle. Stop." he stuttered, backing away, stumbling and then falling. "RUN!" a voice screamed from behind him. He managed to push himself up and run for his life, silently thanking the voice as he saw that the creature collapsed right where he had been a few moments before.
His mind had registered the voice, it was familiar. The boy had taken out a knife. "That's not going to work" I thought. He knew the face but it dint come back, he couldn't quite think of who it was.
"DO I know you?" he whispered, squinting his eyes. The boy nodded. "You knew me, but not well." The boy had put away the knife after he realized it wouldn't be enough. Kyle was strong.
"How old are you?" he had ment for it to sound like a question, but it came out squeaky."1,014" he said confidently.
He looked at the boy with puzziling eyes.
The boy sighed. "We need to find a gun." the boy walked in front of him and he followed the boy. "What is that supposed to mean?" he asks. The boy glances back at him.
"well for one thing if you want to get out of her ALIVE, I would suggest finding a significantweapon." the boy said matter-of-factly.
"I would like to know where the HELL we a goin to find a gun."
the boy grinned, "oh, you just wait"
He rolled his eyes and the boy continued walking. "We have to avoid parking lots. There are too many there." the boy said.
"Too many? DEMONS!" he eyes wide with shock."yes to many demons. "He hadn't noticed till now but the boys accent was British.
"I wouldn't exactly call them demons, though. They are more like flesh-eating creatures. You could call them demons, though." the boy said, his British accent obvious to him now.
" Well what do you and your people call them?"" People, I wouldn't call them people there are only about twenty or thirty of us left." He said this with a smile on his face and laughter in his voice.
"Well it's not my fault that you don't have a sense of humor." The boy was kicking up sand, it was flying back and hitting the man in the face." How old are you?" the boy asked.
" Sixteen" he responded.
"What is your name?" The boy spit back
"Man, you sure do ask a lot of questions. Whats your name?" The boy took a moment, then responded sadly.
" I don't remember." The man had now caught up to the boy and was walking beside him.
"What do you mean?" his eyebrows furrowed.
"I've been stuck in this kind of world my whole life, knowing that the population is going down every day." they boy said, now serious. "I have too. I know a lot more than you." he says. He was only a few years older than the boy; he was nineteen. "Listen up, smart one. I don't go by age anymore. Find a smart little boy? Keep him as an ally! Why not? So I really don't appreciate you acting like you're older than me by so much and therefore that makes you smarter!" the boy glares at him.
"Listen, if you want to get out of here ALIVE, I would suggest stop thinking that YOU know everything!" The boy had said."Fine. Where are we going anyway?" They were now walking on the edge of an abandoned road.
"Safety." the boy spit back.
End of Chapter One
Chapter Two:When he awakens, the boy is pacing back and forth in the barn they found at the edge of the road. The dead bodies of the creatures are everywhere. "Finally." the boy muttered, walking over to him. "You can sleep through anything. I had to kill some of those damn creatures in here. I think it's safe for now." the boy said, twirling his knife. "We need to find a better shelter, though. This roof is not going to hold rain." the boy looks up at the barn's loft. "Haven't gone up there. Creatures are attracted to noise, so I'm pretty sure they aren't up there." the boy said, pointing at the loft. "It would be a good hiding spot, though, for dry weather." he nodded and sat up.
"Where do we go now?" When he got up he got a head rush and laid back down. " Comon' get up, we need to leave before it starts to downpour." They could hear the slow steadiness of the rain on the top of the barn. The boy gives him a hand and pulls him up.
"I think I have an idea where we could go." The boy says mater-of-factly.
He wills himself to not cry, for those were the exact words Kyle had said before...before... "Are you coming or not?" the boy asks. He stands and nods. "I'm coming." he whispered.
His footsteps matched with the beating of his heart, rapid. He hadn't known why he had them running, but he went along. He thought back to when they were going to the barn, how the boy had said that he dinit remebre his name, how he had given the boy a name, Darcy. And Darcy had given the man a name too, Collin. Collin liked his name, he thought it sounded familiar. It was just another piece connected to the empty spaces of his holey memory.
Collin looked at Darcy, who was sweating. "Why are we running?" Collin asked. Darcy glanced back at him. "I thought you were smarter than me." he smirked. Darcy looked back in front of him. "Stop asking so many questions." Collin continued to run, his muscles aching as he did so. He had ran every day since the creatures had been there, but he still hadn't gotten used to the aching pain he felt after he had hurt his leg.
"please...can....wee......stop." He weased. Darcy looked back at him, and smirked."Go right ahead," Collin stopped in his place and doubled over chocking for air.
"Now," Darcy said "While you out here getting yourself killed, i'm going to continue running and survive, bye." Collin looked up, still out of breath. Darcy smiled a knifing smile. Collin took a deep breath, and continued running, occasionally glaring at the back of Darcy's head.
"You know, I could've left you back there, but I didn't. I don't think I ever heard the words 'thank you' come out of your mouth." Darcy said, glancing back at Collin. "Ha. I don't think you really care about the things I do and don't do." Collin said, smirking. "Little boy." he added. Darcy stopped and turned to look at Collin. "I'm trying to help you. I think you'd better clear up the attitude. I can ditch you anytime." Darcy turned around and ran. Collin ran after him, more of a gallop because of his leg.
The rest of the way Darcy had not spoken to Collin, and again Collin felt as if his legs were on fire. Then after a while Collin gave in."FINE! I'm sorry, it's just that I'm not used to this much running, in such a short amount of-" But Collin couldn't finish his sentence, because a high-pitched screeching noise sounded from the hills.
"Shit!" Darcy said suddenly. Collin looked around. "We need to go! Now!" Darcy yelled, running as a chorus of screams set out. "What the hell is happening?" Collin asked, frantic. "Someone's being turned!" Darcy yelled back to Collin.
Collin stopped, staring into the hills."Let's go!" He screamed and pulled on Collins arm.
Collin began to run.
"Oooh, so NOW you can run." Darcy said.
" YES! Because frankly, I don't feel like dying today."
Darcy caught up with Collin. "Well I was trying to get us to a safe place so this wouldn't happen! If you hadn't had to stop to complain, we would've been there right now, safe and sound! But, noooo.... You just HAD to make a pit stop!" Darcy yelled at Collin. "Can we get along for two seconds?!" Collin yelled, running harder, his injured leg throbbing. Darcy's eyes softened. "Fine. We should find another place other than the barn, though. It's starting to rain." Darcy said.
A house was focusing in the distant."What if someone lives there?"
"What did I tell you, There are only about twenty to thirty of us left, I HIGHLY doubt that anybody lives there." They were now at a slow pace run, more like a jog.
"Well, if those screams were human, there are probably only about twenty of us left." Collin said, running faster to the house. Darcy nods and they reached the house. "Please be unlocked." Darcy muttered. It was locked, of course, and they went to the back door, which was unlocked, but blood-splattered.
"Someone's been here, or SOMETHING has been here." Said Darcy."And it looks like they have had a snack. Is it safe here?" Collin asked.
"Should be." Darcy mumbled.
"But how are we going to get-" but Collin dint finish his sentence because Darcy had backed up and was running full speed towards the door, then he turned and slammed his shoulder into the door, and it popped open.
"That was unlocked..." Collin said, narrowing his eyes. "You just ruined some of the little protection we had." Darcy sighed and rubbed his head. "I'm sorry. We can barricade it once we search the house, make sure there's not any creatures in there." Darcy said, stepping inside. Collin followed him.
The inside of the house was duty and dingy. There was a plain wooden table in front of them with four blue plates and cups on them. They walked through the doors that where leading into the living room. A sudden strong smell of rotting and formaldehyde smacked them in the face, and there laying I the dust and dirt were four rotting bodies
