Ed Erwin | 73 comments Ana Galvañ and Ana Galván are not the same person. I'm having trouble separating them. Can someone else try?

Ana Galvañ creates graphic novels in Spanish.

Ana Galván wrote this book in English.

Unfortunately, Goodreads is not very good at dealing with accents and other "special" characters.

I'll separate the 2 authors using spaces:

Ana Galvañ has now 3 spaces between first and last name (since there already is a Goodreads Author Ana^^Galvan with 2 spaces: I assume she's not the same person, can you confirm?): https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Moloch | 2715 comments So, I think I have sorted everything out

1. This is Ana Galvañ, the graphic novel author and illustrator
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Her name is written Ana^^^Galvañ, with 3 spaces, the only way to separate her profile from

2. Ana Galván, writes in English
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
(impossible to say if the followers are really for Ana Galvañ)
(Ana^Galván, with 1 space)

3. There is also Goodreads Author Ana Galvan
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
(Ana^^Galvan, with 2 spaces)

edit: maybe #2 and #3 are the same person

Ed Erwin | 73 comments Thanks. I think #1 looks correct. I can't tell whether #2 and #3 are the same people or 2 different people or even 3 different people. But I'm pretty sure you got #1 right.

Another librarian has moved "The Labor of Ethan" to the GR Author (no accent)

I don't know neither the books nor the author(s), so I can't help

That appears to be incorrect, since on that book cover there is definitely an accent on the a.

I'm really only familiar with the graphic novel writer, so will leave the rest alone. Someone could sent a message to the GR author (no accents) to ask her which books are hers.

Since that person did not comment on this post, I am assuming that it is because the book is under that particular author's profile on Amazon. However, it is not correct to have done this without also adding the name on the cover to the book.

If the followers on that profile meant to follow the graphic novel author, they might eventually discover this and they can unfollow.

Emily | 13206 comments Thank you for citing that post. There is nothing in the manual about this policy regarding accented letters in the diacritics section, and I did not immediately recall that post, so I decided to add the accented name as we normally would for an author's name on the cover. It is always helpful to contribute to a discussion if you are addressing relevant aspects of it at the same time as other librarians.

Emily | 13206 comments Now that I think about it, the Amazon profile pages are not always accurate, so those should not be taken as gospel. In this case it is most likely the same author due to the subject matter. But anyone reading this should note that the pages occasionally get mixed up with other authors of the same name, just as they do on Goodreads.
