main character starts book at a beach in Florida. makes out with crush on life guard tower. almost loses her virginity but doesn't because she starts her period. then she goes back to her home town, joins swim team. she's constantly fighting with get mother and emails back and forth with her aunt (who she sees as a mother). towards the end of the book, she loses her virginity to a guy at prom, in a car
