Quite a lot happened in chapter 6 (some spoilers ahead). We meet Naphta (I can't decide whether he fascinates or annoys me) and the tragic story of Joachim comes to an end. It seems to me Hans isn't really sick and for some reason Behrens doesn't want anyone to leave the sanatorioum (is it only because of money?). When Joachim decides to travel anyway, he breaks the rules because he wants to live (not just be alive), even though it might mean a quicker end to his life. Hans, on the other hand, enjoys the peace and quiet of Berghof and doesn't want to leave, even though Behrens at one point gives his permission to do this (admitting at the same time that Hans' condition isn't that serious).

Overall, I'm eager to see how the book ends. It's not the easiest read, but very thought-provoking.
