KateNZ | 2208 comments I loved this beautiful retelling of the Six Swans fairy tale, set in medieval Ireland where the Fair Folk are real and present, and magic infuses the forests. But though the otherworldly elements play a part, it's first and foremost a human story: a tale of family; childhood happiness; trauma, fear and loss; the power of jealousy, hate and prejudice; and the ultimate power of healing and love. The characters are all wonderfully real and vividly portrayed, with a clash of cultures as a centrepiece. I was completely lost in Sorcha's world - a very hard book to put down.
