Booknblues | 5757 comments Truthfully I rarely go to the movies but I love to read the books.

I am excited about The One and Only Ivan and News of the World with Tom Hanks.

Dune was a movie once before, I hated it..The one and only Ivan should be great! And I love Tom Hanks in anything, so I am sure that one will be good too

annapi | 4965 comments Amazon is doing Jack Reacher as a series, and the first season will be based on book 1, The Killing Floor. Can hardly wait!

Hopefully the series casting will do a better job of matching the actor to the role than Hollywood did when it picked Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise is popular and has many fans, but I have never met anyone who actually acts or knows theatre who thinks he is a good actor. But he makes money for the film makers!

Theresa | 6644 comments Rainman is only movie he actually acted in...

I don't mind his filling seats and coasting as an actor, he jyst was so completely not Jack Reacher. Starting with physically.

I saw that blog too. That Ivan book sounds wonderful. The first thing I checked was the number of pages, and to make sure it's not just a kid's book. I'm really looking forward to News of the World, but I need to read it first.

I've been putting off reading Dune. I didn't see the older movie either. A student told me I'll probably like it because he recognized some of the organizational structure ideas that we discussed in class.

I've read both The One and Only Ivan and News of the World and I'm sure you will like them.

Is the Ivan book over 150 pages I remember it being quite short. It is a children's book as well, but not a picture book.

Holly R W | 1251 comments I am interested in seeing "Hillbilly Elegy".

Speaking of movie adaptations, have any of you seen the new "Little Women" movie? I saw it recently and thought it was wonderful!

I saw an ad for it. Is it really about the author? If so I’d like to see it. I loved her books, and I saw almost every movie adaptation, but I can’t watch another one. But the story of Alcott is more interesting.

KateNZ | 2321 comments Loved the new ‘Little Women’ - very well done. And some good strong feminist themes :)

message 13: by Holly R W (new)

Holly R W | 1251 comments @Nancy, the movie blurs Jo with Alcott in a satisfying way. It does follow the original book too.

@Kate, I loved the film too! The actors were wonderful. I was surprised that I remembered the book so well, since I had read it 50 years ago.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 7453 comments The child inside me is anticipating Dr. Dolittle-It's awfully hard to sit through a movie(especially in a theater) so I rarely go. But this one is on the list-talking animals rock!

Yes, correct, but I give a LOT of credit to the director for that. Well, he annoys me onscreen because he isn't a god actor. There aren't many poor actors I can watch and enjoy. This is due in large part to my thespian years as a youth where I got to be trained by professionals with a group of teens from all over San Francisco and a few other things.

Me too! I actually never read the book so maybe it is time.

Or, do I just take the book off my TBR and enjoy the show for what it is worth?

Maybe the latter.

I gotta read the second one before this comes out in Feb!!

I didn't know that Normal People was picked up for Hulu series. Definitely interested in this one, and how it will be adapted- as it is mainly character and relationships- not plot.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 7758 comments I haven't read the books for To All The Boys or P.S. I Still Love You. But there are few things in life I love more than cheesy teen romance movies. Seriously, they are so great.

I didn't watch the first one yet because I thought I would read the book but I might just watch the series instead, like I did with You.
