ABANDONED. Jude Deveraux book with a little monkey?

A coworker is trying to hunt down a book. All she can give me is that it was possibly written in the 80's, is very likely by Jude Deveraux, has a pet monkey in it, and something about a mother switching her baby at birth with another child because she couldn't have a girl, only a boy. She also said that she vaguely remembers the female protagonist disguising herself to trick the male protagonist into having sex with her. Any ideas???

I found one searching online that could be the book she is looking for but it was published in 1994:

Remembrance by Jude Deveraux.

I searched inside the book and the switching the babies part is there; so is the monkey!
