Kristel, I'm pretty sure you meant to say BOTM for Feb, as per the thread title.
Germinal is a long one so y'all should be getting started if you haven't. I'm 1/3 through, and enjoying it.

Thanks, fixed it. Do you want to be moderator for Germinal?

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 897 comments I'm thinking my February reading plans are going to be:

1) whichever TBR is called
2) Germinal for BOTM (maybe re-read Amok quickly since it's so short)
3)Annual: Journey to the West pt 2
4) Randomiser: The life and opinions of Tomcat Murr
5) a book for whatever the February theme challenge is
6) Part of the Count of Monte Cristo for my personal fake quarterly
7) Some books for my read the world challenge (The Guide, 3 Trapped Tigers, the Siege of Lisbon)

message 5: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 1193 comments My ideal February:
Catch up with King Monkey Great Sage Equal to Heaven
Finish the Quarterly read as I am almost done.
Finish Under the Volcano which I can’t imagine finishing before the end of January
My Feb. TBR
Random: Looking for Heartbreak Tango but might need to settle for Man without Qualities
Follow Bookwormy to Fahrenheit 451 or another US classic for reading around the world
Hope to read Diviners or Islands if I have time.

I have not started our quarterly read yet, I have started the yearly but just recently. It is easy to read, thank goodness. I am feeling a lot of pressure with all the books verses audibles that are ending up on my books.

Gail (gailifer) | 1193 comments To Mary Ann: Mason and Dixon....I have been using it as a doorstop for years....If you like it maybe I will attempt to open it.

message 11: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 556 comments I just listened to Mason and Dixon, and was surprised that it was good.

message 12: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 1193 comments To Tracy: Really? Amazing. I will have to read it (or listen to it)

message 13: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 556 comments Yep. Way better than Lot 49 or V.

message 14: by Daisey (new)

Daisey | 222 comments I picked up the Kindle version of Amok since it's short for this month. I haven't seen any discussion questions, but I can come up with some general ones if nobody else is interested in moderating that book discussion.

Jessica Haider (jessicahaider) | 124 comments I have one 1001 book in progress right now that if I don't finish in the next couple of days, will get carried into Feb. : Smila's Sense of Snow

For February, I plan to read:
BOTMs:
1) Amok
2) Germinal

3) TBR Takedown Pick: The Sorrows of Young Werther
4) Special monthly challenge pick

I am going to take a stab at The Red and the Black.

and...
Go Tell it on the Mountain

Plus some other non-1001 books. (crazy talk, I know)

I am heading to Florida in February. I do hope to have a lot of time to read but.... maybe not.
I am taking with me; Amok (K), Germinal (A), The Red and the Black (A and B), Monkey (B), the TBR. In addition; Daisy Jones and the Six for F2F, Wolf Hall (Group Read on LT), The Good Girl (Psychological Thriller for LT), and possibly Elantis (Transformations for LT).

I am not sure that I can get books posted for April until I am back home. Would everyone be okay if it does not get done until the 26th of February?

What ever your schedule will allow will be fine. The books aren't going any where:)

message 20: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 1193 comments Agreed, I can wait until the 26th.
Have a wonderful time out of the freezing in Florida

Thanks Diane and Gail. I am so looking forward to being a bit warmer.

message 22: by George P. (new)

George P. | 406 comments I've already finished Amok (loved it), so much of my Feb reading will be to finish Germinal (now at 45%) and to read more of War and Peace- I vowed to start reading it when I retired- I'm at about 220 pages, so a good start:) I'll probably read 1 or 2 more of Zweig's stories while I have the book and maybe Faces in the Water by Janet Frame.

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) Gail: My Mason and Dixon finally showed up today (30th) I ordered it Jan 3. It IS a tome. Since you already received an answer I am happy to hear it was good and will also respond when I get it read.

message 24: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 1193 comments Okay MaryAnn. I look forward to hearing what you think.

Pip | 1306 comments I hope to read both BOTM and my TBR which is Tolstoy's Kreutzer Sonata, finish the Red and the Black and get up to Chapter 16 in Journey to the West. I hope there will be time for whatever our February Challenge is, too.

I will post all the books that we will vote on for April before I leave but voting won't start until the 15th and will go until the 23. I think that will work okay. People will have longer to investigate the choices.

I hope I can get lots of reading time. We are driving so I will have a lot of travel time for sure.
