Hello all!

We have some results for our 2019 ATY survey!

Screen Shot 2020-01-10 at 12.53.13 PM

Of the people that completed the survey, 10% completed the challenge in order (or approximately in order).

The favorite book of the year was The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Other notable favorites included:
- Becoming by Michelle Obama
- Circe by Madeline Miller
- Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
- The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai

The top three favorite prompts of 2019 were:
- #18. A book related to one of the elements on the periodic table of elements
- #38. A book not written in traditional novel format
- #17. A speculative fiction

The three least favorite prompts of 2019 were:
- #27. A book off of the 1001 books to read before you die list
- #31. A children’s classic you’ve never read
- #48. A book that was a finalist or winner for the National Book Award for any year

Most people didn't use their Wild Card, but if they did, it was for:
- #52. A book with a weird or intriguing title
- #35. A psychological thriller

The prompts that were the hardest to find books for were:
- #45. A multi-generational saga
- #18. A book related to one of the elements on the periodic table of elements
- #20. A book featuring indigenous people of a country

Hope you enjoyed this look back at 2019!

Lizzy | 714 comments Thanks Emily -- I love seeing the numbers! Also thought it was interesting that I read 2 of the 5 favorite books, 2 are on this year's list, and one is not even in my to TBR. I may have to take another look at The Great Alone.

Steve | 529 comments I was the one to propose the periodic table of elements prompt, so I feel some sense of pride in it being the favorite! (Except I hated the book I read for it so... push).

Jillian | 1670 comments I was wondering how many members completed the survey.

I think it is interesting that the periodic table was both a favorite and one of the hardest prompts.

Jody (jodybell) | 3491 comments I didn’t even know there was a survey, I must have missed the announcement.

Jillian, less than 100 people took it, so I wouldn't call it representative of the group as a whole, but I still wanted to present the results for those people who did complete it.

Edie | 835 comments I also didn't see anything about a survey. Would have completed it if I had known about it.
