Paul  Perry (pezski) | 489 comments I'd add Hothouse by Brian W. Aldiss, one of the first 'proper' SF books I ever read. In the far, far future, the barely sentient descendants of humanity are given a boost when a sapient fungus forms a symbiotic relationship with some of them.
