Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments The day was a nice one. The sky was blue and the wind blew gently causing the grass to sway back and forth. Jeff brought his hand up as if he was saluting. In his other hand was a large brown picnic basket. After meeting Clementine at the front gate of the castle, he walked with her to the hillside. The hillside was a place they used to go back during their academy days. It was a place for children to run and play without adults supervision. Now the hillside was bare. Children these days didn't visit the hillside to play. No they were more into their bending or video games. Nevertheless Jeff found this to be prefect. A quiet place for him and Clementine. The hill they always played on came into sight. He took the lead by a few steps. "It's just over here," he said as he walked a bit faster. Before long they were both climbing a hill.

Anastasia | 1767 comments ((idk if video games existed in the timeline... °-°))

Clementine squealed at seeing the view. It was really beautiful, and would hopefully always be. She remembered when they would come here after their classes and play. Clementine would always pretend she was a knight slaying a dragon, and Jeff would simply play along. She remembered she was a bit of a brat in the past, she had never asked what Jeff wanted to play, but he just always seemed happy to play what she wanted.
She hiked her way up to the top and dropped her bag in the grass. She felt like she was on top of the world. She took a deep breath and let it out.
"The air is so clean up here," she turned to Jeff and smiled. "I'd almost forgotten what it was like up here."
She remembered the feeling on having the breeze blow through her hair. She suddenly felt self conscious of her short hair. It was rather long when she was younger, but she cut it to make her job easier when she first became a guard.
Maybe I should grow it out again... she thought.

((Yeah video games aren’t a thing yet. There’s no such thing as electricity except from lighting...))

Anastasia | 1767 comments ((that's alright :) ))

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments He sat the basket down to stare at Clementine. The way the gentle breeze blew her short hair and the way she stood made her look like a hero. One of those heros that was always there in the nick of time. "Oh boy, you haven't been here in awhile. Did you think it would change? he asked with a slight amusement in his voice. Bending, he picked up the blanket from the basket. He spread the blanket on the ground and sat the blanket on top of it. Coming to stand beside Clementine, he looked out in the distance. "You know a lot has changed about this place. Like over there"-" he pointed to a few bushes a little ways down the hill. "Those bushes have flowers now. I've used them in a few of my dishes too."

message 8: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine turned to Jeff, her mouth agape. "You can put flowers in food?!" it would be an understatement to say she was in awe. Something was clicking in her head, flowers. She was trying to remember what it was.
"Oh!" She cried and picked up her bag. "I almost forgot! Well, I did, but then I remembered." Out of her supply bag she brough out a small bouquet of roses and held them out softly to Jeff.
"You always give me one, so I figured it was my turn, even though yours are cool and magical and stuff and these are just normal."
She remembered stopping by the garden after hanging up her armour and getting a few roses from the gardener, whom she knew well. She always thought it was so sweet the little roses Jeff made her, and she always cherished them while they lasted.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Jeff nodded his head in response to her question. Her astonishment brought a grin to his face. Interest and curiosity took hold of him when she she started going through her bag. A part of him was secretly hoping she had his favorite treat from the fire kingdom in there. But when she brought out the bundle of roses, his grin widen. Surprise and amusement was playing across his face as he reached out and accepted them from her. Once the roses were in his hand, he looked at them. "Thank you. I'm flattered by this." Bring the rose to his nose he sniffed them and then grinned at Clementine. "This is my first time receiving roses from a woman. You know I can get use to this" Grabbing her hand, he said "Come on let's eat. We can catch up with each other while we're at it."

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine happily sat down and sighed with content. It had been ages since she had a real break, as everything had gotten out of hand after the ball. Though it had cost her time and respect, she didn't regret her decision in helping the criminal escape.
"So, what did you bring?" she asked, attempting to peek into the basket without touching it. She didn't want to seem too eager, but Jeff really was the best chef.
Clementine really missed being able to sit down with him after a hard day and just relax. It was one of the things that really helped her through her days at the academy, but ever since their last day, they both had less and less time. Naturally it made sense, because their jobs were for the kingdom itself and the royal family which meant they were at work more often than not, but the little times they got break were worth more now that they were able to have less of them. It was sad in a sense, but it was the best they had.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments "I brought a specially meal today." He reached into the basket. Pulling out one dish after another, he sat them on the blanket. He had decided to make a new dish for their meal. He wanted to run by the choice of this dish by his childhood friend to see what she thinks. He could always true her to give him honest answers. Uncovering the dishes he explained what they were having. For today's lunch we are having corn beef sandwiches with a touch of my specialty mustard sauce, chicken paste salad, a fruit salad with fruit from the water and air kingdom, and a lava cake with my chocolate candy on top for each of us. It's small though." He took out a pitcher and two cups. "For our drinks, I have your favorite right from the fire kingdom." He begin to fix her plate by placing a little of everything on it so she could see if she liked it. Handing it to her, he smiled. Then he sat a lava cake on a separate plate beside her along with the drink. He begin fixing his plate. "Go on dig in." He gestured by pointing the spoon in his hand toward her.

message 12: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments "Wow!" Clementine gasped as she looked at all of the beautiful food Jeff had made. She didn't know where to start on her plate, so she just picked a random spot. She picked up the sandwich and brought it to her mouth, biting down. The sharp flavour of the mustard sauce washed over her tongue and she smiled brightly.
"This is fantastic!" she spoke, forgetting that her mouth was full. She brought her free hand up to keep too many crumbs from falling out and giggled at her clumsiness.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Looking up Jeff smiled. "Glad you like it." Her child like side was adorable. He always loved when she forgot she was a girl or in this case a woman. Staring at her face he chuckled. There was a few crumbles on her lips from her bitting into the sandwich. The thought to reach over and brush them away hit him like a ton of bricks, but he resisted the urge too. He didn't know how Clementine would take the action. And he didn't want to be rejected for even trying. That would be awkward and could ruin their relationship a little. Besides he didn't know is she had someone. "You have someone- er you want some more I mean?"

message 14: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments "Mmm," Clementine mumbled, chewing faster to try and swallow. "Let me finish what I have first, besides, you have to eat some too!"
Of course she had noticed that he had yet to even finish making his own plate, and she felt slightly guilty about immediately digging in, even though he had told her too.
She had always remembered Jeff being so kind. He hadn't changed much since their academy days, but she was grateful for that. He was the nicest person she had ever met and the best friend she could ever wish for.
Of course, Clementine had other friends in the academy, many people thought her scars were cool despite their origin, but none of them were real like Jeff was. He was the only one who liked her for her, and it took her way too long to figure that out.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments (Will reply soon. I'm working in a writing contest that's what had my time sorry for leaving like that)

message 16: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments ((Don't worry, take your time. Good luck!))

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Jeff went back to making his plate. Once he was finished he begin to eat himself. The food tasted good, but in his mind he just knew it could be better. He studied the foods appearance and thought it could use work as well. Eating for a few minutes more, he rested down to pick up his drink. Taking a sip he lowered the cup back to the blanket. "So how's life as a guard? " He asked after his mouth was clear of food. He wondered if Clementine had had to get into some fights during her job or even had to use her weapon. He took another bit if the sandwich.

message 18: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine offered a smile and swallowed her last bite of sandwich. She was ready to eat more, but she decided to wait and save some room for dessert.
"Well, most of the time it's what I dreamed it would be like," she replied. She had always dreamed of what it would be like when she was in the academy, she wanted to help people, and she wanted to inspire children. she didn't want anyone to have to go through the trauma she did as a child. "Sometimes I don't agree with the methods we're trained to use..." Clementine looked down at her hands that were trembling slightly. Her least favorite thing to do was shocking people unconscious. At least when she had to use a sword, she wasn't touching the criminal with her own hands, but using her lightning abilities made it so much more personal, resulting in it being that much harder to go through with.
"What about you?" she asked, steering the conversation towards Jeff, it would give her time to let her mind get away from the painful subjects.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Jeff finished chewing the last bit of his food. He noticed that Clementine had stopped eating and was probably ready to have the lava cake he brought. He reached for the cake when he heard her question. "I love my job for the most part. I can not stand when people come into the kitchen dirtying up my white floors with their dirty shoes, but I tolerate it." Jeff was a bit of a neat freak but he liked to keep thing orderly so he could find what he was looking for without having to search through a pile. "Besides having to deal with that arrogant Prince Nathaniel, life is going ok for me." His thoughts returned to his frie-enemy who had brought a maid into the kitchen a few days ago. From his knowledge he never knew the guy to be interested in someone. But he brushed the thought aside. He handed CC her small lava cake as he took his. "I hope you like it. The candy on it can be melted if you want." He thought about how Clementine had gone through a rough childhood and teenhood. He cut into his lava cake watching the chocolate liqid spill out onto his plats. He raised his hand and produced a small flame that melted his candy. "So how have life been since...well you know." He was asking about her life now that she didnt have to put up with the trauma of her past.

(What happened in her past?)

message 20: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments ((she was kidnapped at a young age which caused he to discover her fire bending abilities. It also helped her discover that when she cries her tears burn scars into her cheeks, hence the scars under her eyes))

Clementine felt a bit bad when he explained his pet peeve to her. She always tried to clean her boots off as much as possible, but she never got it perfect.
She smiled when she took the cake, but it slowly faded. Before Jeff could notice (or at least she hoped he hadn't), she threw back on a bright grin.
"Oh silly, it's been ages, remember?" Clementine attempted a fake giggle, but it didn't quite sound right. "Besides, it's a good thing that happened, otherwise we might have never met. If I hadn't been sent away to the academy, who knows where we'd be now." She always tried to think on the bright side, and steering the conversation in the right direction was easy, it just didn't always work out.
It hurt remembering what happened that day in the meadow, but she was already past that, she had forgiven him, despite his fate in the eyes of society, she remembered the fear in his eyes, and she recognized herself in them.
She looked to her left to feel the breeze on her face for a moment. Whenever she thought about her past, her scars would begin to burn again, and it painful.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Looking up from his cake, he saw a grinning Clementine. His own expression took on one of knowing when he saw the sadness or what he thought was sadness in her eyes. She had told him how she was kidnapped when she was younger and most of the things she had been through. He suspected she was hiding or repressing some of her memories from being kidnapped by a stranger, but he never pushed her to tell him. Ok so maybe he did push her when he was a kid, but he came to understand boundaries whereas he haven't as a child. He watched her now, moving the conversation away from herself. He knew she was still suffering from those memories in the meadow in her own way. He wanted to fix that. To help her get pass the tramua she was still holding onto. He sat his plate down. Leaning over, he gently placed his fingers on the further side of her face and turned her head to face him. "We still would have met, Clemmie. I would have made sure of that, but you know you can always talk to me. About anything. And Ill do my best to help you. That's what I'm here for."

message 22: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments ((awww Clemmie that's so cute!))

Clementine let a genuine smile grace her face. It was nice to have someone she knew she could turn to.
"You know, you really were my rock throughout the academy days," She said with a chuckle. "I'd have gone mad if it weren't for you to keep me steady."
She meant it too, she could be stubborn and determined, but with so many fake people around her, it was almost enough to make Clementine quit her dream of becoming a guard. She was lucky to have a friend like Jeff to keep her on track.
"Now tell me," a sly smirk spread across her face. "I know you've got yer eye on someone, I can just tell, it's rather obvious really," She stopped herself before she began to ramble. "I want to help you, it shall become my personal goal to get you the partner of you dreams!"
She figured since Jeff was always so helpful and kind to her, it was her turn to return the favour. Besides, it was rather obvious that he liked someone, she just didn't know who, and she wanted to help him.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Color rose in his cheeks as he looked away from her. He should have known she would have asked something like this evenually. What was with women and intuition? Unconisciously his hand that held her chin just a moment ago was behind his head scratching. "You might know her! We have been friends for a while now." He averted his gaze to the blanket. "Besides I'm nit ready to tell her yet. She might not feel the same way as I do." He looked back at her lowering his hand to his lap. "What if she rejects me? I don't think I could handle being rejected well. I mean...you know." He looked back down again. "I know everything about her, but I feel like she isn't aware of my feelings. She's so beautiful and confident in who she is that I just don't know how to approach her." He was blushing again, but he didn't dare look up for fear of what he might find on Clementine's face. Did she know who he was talking about? What did she think? Will she laugh in his face? More questions plagued his mind.

message 24: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine listened intently. She was interested in what Jeff had to say, he always said the most interesting things. She considered the ways he described this girl, she seemed nice enough, though she couldn't think of anyone she knew who matched the description. Most of the people who worked at the castle were stern and serious and many didn't make friends with each other, let alone have been friends for ages.
He had to mean someone else. Maybe someone who worked in town? She wondered what she might do for work? What she looked like? But she didn't want to prod.
Clementine shrugged and offered a bright smile, even though Jeff wasn't looking. Sometimes she just couldn't help but smile, it was as though the expression was ingrained in her DNA.
"Well she sounds nice, and I understand he worry. Everyone worries about telling someone that stuff. But you can always come to me if you need a confidence boost!"

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Looking at her the head cook smiled. "I always could count on you Clemmie." He picked up his plate with his cale on it and took two bits before setting it back down. Rising to his feet, a mischievous glint entered his brown eyes. "Want to show off what we can do with our powers?" He held his hand up, palm facing the air. In his hand a orange and blue fire danced. "I've been wondering what you could do now that you learned to control your abilities. So a friendly sparring match should do?" He knew he didn't have half a chance at defeating Clementine, but he wanted to see what new things she came up with. Besides, he thought, maybe he could trick her into giving up.

message 26: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine was a bit concered about what might come of the duel, her powers had been finicky recently, but it wasn't anything she hadn't eventually gotten under control. Her most powerful abilities actually came from her fire bending subclass powers, her powers of lighting. She used them often when catching criminals, but that didn't mean she liked it.
She stood up and brushed off her pants, preparing herself mentally.
"That should be fine, just...." Clementine averted her eyes. "just be careful," she muttered. She wasn't sure if that was directed to Jeff or herself, maybe it was for both of them. She would never forgive herself if she had to live knowing she had hurt the one person who had stuck with her through everything.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Jeff being Jeff waved her concern off. He knew she wasn't a fan of her abilities but he loved when she used them. Her lightening was so powerful like nothing he haven't seen. He also wanted her to become confident with using her lightening power. He believed her lack of confidence and trust in her himself was preventing her from controlling it fully. He gets into his fighting stand. A fireball in the form of his face looked back at Clementine. He bounded it up and down. "Come on Clemmie let show that I can beat you." He been working on his defenses and he was sure he could block all the attacks she threw his way.

message 28: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine shook out her hand. She would hold back, even if he didn't want her to. She couldn't help but worry, so she would hold back, and Jeff would never have to know.
Getting into her defensive stance she remembered her training.
Stay alert.
Attack first.
Without any warning, Clementine shot a single bolt of lightning from her fingertip at Jeff. Her eyes blazed, but not from anger, from the thrill. Whenever she fought, even in a simple sparring match, she entered some kind of headspace, one that caused her to want more. She had learned to slightly control it as of late, but she didn't fully have it, and for just a second, it started to take her over.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Jeff dodged the bolt by stepping to the side. Her lightening was the strongest yet dangerous thing he ever seen. He remembered see her shock a classmate so long ago. He remembered being glad that he wasn't that person because her attack looked like it had hurt. Now he was sure he could handle a good bit of her lightening. After years spent in the kitchen lifting heavy pots and burning his body on different occasions he felt like he could handle a little lightening. Running toward her, he leaped into the air. Falling to the ground he landed just a few feet away from her. When he landed fire spouted from his feet splitting in her direction.

message 30: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine jumped back slightly in response and formed her own flames into a sort of shield, protecting her from her attacker. She reached up as though she were plucking lightning from the sky itself and formed it into a sword. She was always better at melee combat, it was what she had been trained in when she was becoming a guard.
She stood fast, her feet firmly planted in the squishy dirt.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Jeff smiled and held his hand palm facing his chest up. In his hand a blue fire sword. He slice through the air a few times before taking an attack stance. "Let's see if my swordsmanship has improve," he said as he held his sword out to the side. Running toward her, he pushed off the ground leaping into the air. Bring his sword down he goes to slash her front. He knew she would block or counter with some move which was why he wasn't worry that he would hurt her. He knew he probably didn't stand a chance against her but he had been watching Prince Nathaniel spar matches for some time now.

message 32: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments The lightning sparking off of Clementine's blade blocked Jeff's attack before the two blade even touched. She stumbled back, but quickly regained herself. She felt alive. She had forgotten how much fun this could be. A small part of her tugged at the back of her mind to stop. But she was actually enjoying herself. As long as both of them were careful, nothing could go wrong, right?
Clementine twirled her sword and dissolved it along with her shield. She still couldn't hold those kinds of things for too long, she would have to try something new.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Seeing his opportunity to take her down, Jeff charge at her. He throws his fire sword at her. When she was busy dodging it he was still closing the distance between them. He had every intention of beating her. When he tried to throw a punch he somehow lost his footing. Loosing his balance, he collided with Clementine. He could see it all happening slowly despite how fast it happened.

message 34: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine didn't have much time to react before she felt Jeff collide with her and they both tumbled to the ground. When they stopped moving, Jeff was in the grass, but Clementine had managed to catch herself right above him. She couldn't help but immediately start lauging. She had come out in top after all. It felt so good to feel joy bubbling up inside her again. She always felt happy when she was around her best friend.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments (Is he on the side of her or over her I cant picture the image)

message 36: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments ((like he's on the ground and she's over him because she caught herself. Like if you were in downward dog, but not quite as composed because she is by no means a yoga instructor.))

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments (Ok)

Jeff pouted at Clementine's laughing face. He had meant to surprise her by the kick that would swap her feet right from underneath her. How had that royal prince made it look so easy? Relaxing his features after a moment he begin chuckling. His chuckling soon became full laugher. Once he had calm down he looked at her shaking his head. "I'm really bad at this aren't I?" He started to sit up but paused when he noticed how close they were. A light blush colored his cheeks. Even when she fell he thought she was pretty.

message 38: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine felt happy and warm, even when she stopped laughing she wore a radiant smile. She was busy trying to get up and didn't notice the change of colour on Jeff's face.
When she finally managed to stand, she held out her hand to help him up.
"Yeah, but I'm sure you'll get better one of these days," she teased, though there was truth in her words. All it took was practice.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments Snapping from his mini trance he grabbed her hand and stood up. Dusting the dirt off his clothes as best he could, he frowned. He didn't like being dirty. Dirt was his enemy when it came to cooking. Nevertheless he ignored his discomfort and flashed a toothy smile. "Guess that fight ended with you winning again. I did fell flat on the ground while you caught yourself." He crossed his arms fixing her with a none believing look on his face. "How'd you react so fast anyway?"

message 40: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine shrugged and crossed her arms.
"It's how I was trained," she replied simply. "All guards get individual training from veterans, and they really know what they're doing. You've gotta be fast out there, it could mean saving someone or not..."
Clementine's face fell slightly, she had soured the mood.
"But enough about that, it's not like I can cook at all, we all have our own skills."

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 763 comments "Yeah we do." Jeff laughed and turned. "Come on let's get you back so you can get back to work and I can get back to cooking." He laughed hearty again and went toward the blanket. Scooping the blanket he stuffed it into the basket after picking up their plates and stuff they used to eat and drink. Once that was done he walked back with Clementine toward the castle. Today had been fun fir him. He git to catch up with a old friend and spend time with the girl liked the most. "By the way, you're going with me to the first prince and princess's birthday party so wear something nice."

message 42: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 1767 comments Clementine smiled brightly.
"That sounds great! I'll get the night off, dontyou worry."
She often liked working extra hours, she enjoyed her work, but she'd make an exception, just this once.
