C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 655 comments You have until the 20th of January to post a poem and from the 21st to around the 27th of January, we’ll vote for which one we thought was best!

Please post directly into the topic and not a link. Please don’t use a poem previously used in this group. Only one submission per person is allowed.

Your poem can be of any length!

This week’s topic is: Every Other Weekend

The rules are pretty loose. You could write a poem about anything that has to do with the subject/photo but it must relate to the topic somehow.

Billie Jo Moore

I keep a very long list
Of all the moments you miss
I really really wish
You were close enough to kiss

But you are 7,000 miles away
And you can't call every day
So when you have the time, if I may
I have some things I want to say

You hate to talk on the phone a lot
Is it me, to myself I thought,
But no, I know, it absolutely is not
For this relationship, we have fought

I will never give us up, you see
I cannot just let it be
Since you fell in love with me
My heart is so filled with glee

I know you have your likes and dislikes
Such as books and video games and hikes
It takes just about all of your might
To call me this weekend, late at night

You hate to talk on the phone, I know
But with me, it is worth it so
You call and talk, a voice a low
Until, to sleep I go.

There're 146 days until I see you again
But only for a month and then
I'll have to stick to writing in pen
Once more, until the year's end.

I wanted to try a new way of formatting my writing, a new way to rhyme (for me). So it may sound a bit forced in places, but if anyone has suggestions to make this better, I'm all for it! Haha. My boyfriend (of almost 2 years) is in South Korea for a year and he hates phone calls so we only call once or twice or week or less. But it works :) I go visit in June!!

Thank you!! And I'm so excited! Right after i get back from Korea, 5 days later I'm going to Italy and France for 10 days! And he only left Dec 2nd. But it feels like forever sometimes haha. He will be there for a year and I'll visit at 6 months. :)

Yeah, I'm going to Italy and France with my little brother's school trip as a chaperone. So of it wasn't for my boyfriend being in Korea and this class trip, i probably wouldn't have even thought about going to these places. but I'm SO EXCITED!

Author: CJ

Poem below:

Every day I should be what I may
Every moment I should strive to seek and grow

Be like a plant that its branches sway
You cannot see it, its breaths miniscule its movings low

I cannot be the ever-wanderer
Whose walk has bumps and traps at every bend

I blame no one for them; I put them there like a hurdler
Should push for this life daily. Not be this only every other weekend.

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 9316 comments POET: Garrison Kelly
TITLE: The Ballad of Sam Corleone
GENRE: Wrestling Narrative
RATING: PG-13 for language and violence

Every other weekend and twice on Sundays
Smashing skulls for a living on Mondays
Looking like bloodshed in khakis and boots
Fuck the spandex trunks, fuck corporate suits
Heavy metal T-shirt around his big old gut
Messy brown hair above a face full of cuts
He stood in the ring crackling his knuckles
Maybe his opponent pussed out and buckled
Then comes R-Truth and the mid-card clowns
Chasing the champ all over the fucking town
All of this comedy for an ugly green strap
Time to put an end to this silly little crap
Grabbing a steel chair from under the ring
Whacking Truth across the back so he could sing
Repeated shots across his nonexistent spine
Crushing ribs into a powder so damn fine
The pin fall was as easy as one, two, three
A new 24/7 Champ on your TV screen
While Truth boy was carried out on a stretcher
The mid-carders ran away forever and ever
New champ took the mike after taking his throne
“My motherfucking name is Sam Corleone
I’ll bring seriousness to this comedy title
Hold onto this strap for a long ass while”
Drake Maverick sneaked up from behind
Threw a chair shot to Sam’s steel spine
The no-sell motel was open for business
Sam turned around to face this idiot
Yanked his ankles, pancaked him on the mat
With one stomp, Drake’s nuts went splat
The poor fucker puked up blood eternally
Carried to the back and to the infirmary
Nobody else dared challenge the king
Even if he was unconscious in the ring
Sam Corleone kept the belt for a year
Instilling in everyone pants-shitting fear
From Strowman to Roman, Dain to Kane
Big Show to Ohno, they all got owned
Then he burned the title in a garbage can
Who’s laughing now? Not a single man
Get used to Sam having main even status
Even if it makes little kids the saddest
“Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!
You’ve got two options: fuck off or fight!”

Thank you, i will (for your comment before) and i just have to say. I LOVE THIS! The harsh wording feels like a way of showing the anger in the ring. Its quite satisfying the way you rhyme as well. Its seriously brilliant

CJ, I know I say this about a lot of authors' poems, but the ending couplet of yours hit me the hardest. A solid ending will always keep your readers coming back for more and keep them curious until the end of the reading session. You did good, buddy!

Billie Jo, this poem reminds me of when I was in a long-distance relationship many years ago. I was madly in love with my girlfriend, but we never closed that distance and it was a source of sadness for both of us. We're not together anymore, but I always enjoy little nostalgia trips here and there. Thanks for bringing out those positive feelings within me. As far as the rhyming goes, don't beat yourself up too much for it, especially since rhyming is something you admit to not doing very often. Practice makes perfect, my friend. Always believe. :)

I usually rhyme the 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 4th lines, but this time i tried to rhyme all 4 for each. It was hard haha.

And I'm glad i made your day! :)

That just made my week! Thank you so much! I have had a LOT going on lately and coming on here and having something to focus my writing on is my way of getting away from it all. You literally just made my entire week. I love this group so much!!! :)
