Racing through this, making the most of the end of my holiday :)

Don't have that much more to add, other than how compelling the idea of thinking trees or trees that make personal choices are. The questions posed, like how many days does a tree wait before it decides it's summer and the more - why does one tree amongst three close neighbours decide differently - these are such obvious points in a way but somehow we never think like that. I really like books that pose that kind of challenge to conventional wisdom

Claire (claire-m-90) | 50 comments I'm still enjoying this, i found the chapters about communication in the first section the most interesting but I did still enjoy this second section.

I agree i was fascinated by the thought of the trees counting the warm days and that they might be able to somehow 'see' the light to see how long daylight lasts each day.

I've been thinking about it and find it super interesting too. I wonder if it's like a computer, a series of if/then formulae that are really complex when combined. Or could a tree 'decide' to behave differently under the same conditions twice in a row. If so that looks a lot like sentience. Super interesting.
