Diana (secondhandrose) | 74 comments EDITED POST

The next Melbourne Aussie Readers Get Together will be held on Sunday 16 th February. Please comment here or PM me if you can attend.
RSVP by Friday 7 th February.
We are exploring new options for the venue as the last place didn't record our booking despite me having a long online chain of communication with them. I don't think they deserve our patronage again as we had interstate members visit for the event and we could have been left out in the cold.
One option we are exploring is a games Cafe. For a small fee of $5 a huge variety of board games are available for use. If this sounds like something that you would like comment here. Otherwise we can just go with the traditional food and drink venue.
As usual the venue will be PMed to you once we have final numbers.
We will have the wrapped Book Swap again. Bring along a wrapped book with a clue to its genre or theme.
If anyone would like to prepare a quiz that would be great too.
Any questions or comments just post here.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 2321 comments I always work Saturdays but with enough warning I should be able to take the day off. So I'm easy :)

Suzie | 481 comments Sounds good, Diana 😊

Andrea | 2188 comments At this stage it sounds fine with me. Thanks for organising it.

Tracey Allen at Carpe Librum (carpelibrum) | 862 comments Hi Diana, thanks so much for organising again. Unfortunately I'm not free on Saturday 29 February. I am free on the 8th and the 15th though, as well as the 9th & 16th if that helps and have plenty of books (and some bookmarks) to bring with me.

Hopefully we can find a date to suit everyone, I'm looking forward to seeing you all.

message 6: by Jo (new)

Jo Rushby | 238 comments so far that date suits me.

message 7: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 2188 comments I'm also open to looking at Sunday dates as an option - might actually work out better than Saturday.

message 8: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 74 comments Ok taking into consideration Sundays I can do 15th, 16th, 23rd and 29th. Tracey can't do the 23 rd or 29th so let's eliminate those and choose between the 15 th and 16th. I have a guest from the US in early Feb but she's not staying as long as I thought.

message 9: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 2321 comments Sundays work better for me so my vote is the 16th :)

message 10: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 2188 comments Sunday 16th is good for me too.

Diana hasn't set up the first post yet as she was trying to work out a date. But if you want to get the idea we all do them the same. Just check out our Sydney one - the first post :) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

It's always loads of fun and you get to meet some like minded people :)

Yeah it's fun! Just a bunch of like-minded people talking books over good food and drink. :) Plus sometimes we do a quiz! Quiz is fun! And everyone goes home with new books :D

Proud Book Reviews (proud_book_reviews) | 8 comments it sounds interesting! I'll have to wait for all the details since it sounds like this might be happening on my partner's birthday weekend and not sure what we're doing yet. but it sounds like fun!

message 20: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 74 comments I have edited the original post with more details of the meet up.

message 21: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 2321 comments Confirm me as a yes please Diana!

I like the idea of board games but not sure of the logistics if we have a decent turn out? But I'm open to it!

We're just a bunch of bookish folks who love to chat about books over lunch. It's a different mix of people each time (with some regulars) and we love to welcome new members. I hope you can join us and will send you a friend request so we can get acquainted :-)

Sorry to hear that Michael, I'm sure you're making the most of your little break and I hope 2020 marks the beginning of an exciting new job and some career certainty for you. I'm sure we'll all understand if a trip to Melbourne isn't on the cards this time.

Can you maybe check photos of previous events to see who might have been missed? My memory is terrible I'm afraid so can't really help there!

What about Elaine? She used to go to them them all.

Tracey Allen at Carpe Librum (carpelibrum) | 862 comments Diana wrote: "I have messaged Nat, Denise, Sandy, Genevieve- and will message Mish . Anyone else I need to contact?"

Hi Diana, I can help with names. We haven't heard from Elaine, Heather, MaryG, Rosie or Jack Wolf on this thread yet, so perhaps a message to them letting them know this is happening would be great.

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments Unless there is fire activity that would keep me at home, I'm definitely up for this meeting. I look forward to seeing everyone.

Yes, I'm planning to attend.

Natty (booknerdnatty) | 333 comments I'm in peeps.... Works beautifully with my valentines weekend with my spunky :D... I can message Elaine with people like, I'm in regular contact with her like Mary or Tracey, she doesn't jump on Goodreads as much...

Sure would, and I have messaged her and she is keen as a bean to attend too, so if we include her in sending out the info for the meet, she can be sure that she is able to attend... :)

Tracey Allen at Carpe Librum (carpelibrum) | 862 comments Nat wrote: "I'm in regular contact with her like Mary or Tracey, she doesn't jump on Goodreads as much.."

Hey Nat :-) I'm on GoodReads every day, I just don't go into all of the groups and discussion threads. I can't keep up with my Twitter or Instagram feed, and just don't have time to check out the GR threads and only find out about events if someone remembers to tell me (readathons, lunch etc.)

message 36: by Tracey Allen (new)

Tracey Allen at Carpe Librum (carpelibrum) | 862 comments Hooray, Mary and Elaine are coming :-)

message 37: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 74 comments Could someone contact Rosie, Heather and Jack Wolf? I'm not friends with them here and am not sure how to find them. Thanks Nat for contacting Elaine.

That's great :) Please give my best to her - I haven't seen or spoken to her in a long time..

message 40: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 74 comments Well that was painless. First choice for new venue as recommended by Tracey splits bills so once I have numbers I will book.
Thanks Tracey for contacting other regular attendees.

I'm same, on most days, mainly to update my reading pages and reviews, but not checking into discussions that much :) look forward to seeing you at the catch up :D

Great news Diana, those three members have been messaged now.

message 43: by Genevieve (new)

Genevieve | 147 comments Thanks for the message Diana.
I just had to confirm some details for a tentative commitment I had so I’ve been a bit slow in responding. All good though, so I’ll be there.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Jack | 6 comments Hi all,
I wouldn't mind attending the event. I'm pretty busy during that week, but put me down as going for now please. I also wouldn't mind preparing a quiz and giving out something to the winner.

Sounds great to me Jack, look forward to it :)

message 48: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 74 comments OK this is a little more complicated than I thought it would be ☹️. The venue wants names and menu selections in advance on a preorder booking form. I'll have a look at their website and see if we should stick with them or go elsewhere where this is not required. Seems crazy to me!

message 49: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80472 comments Mod
I'd be going somewhere else Diana. It's meant to be relaxing, not stressful! Find a simple cafe where you can all relax and talk, laugh and eat (as well as swap books!)

Jeez, that's unexpected and I agree, sounds crazy. Do you want me to give them a call? Maybe they'll relax their process if they realise it could cost them the booking....
