Dustin Manning (dustcc) | 3 comments Speaking of Dead Astronauts— i went to Jeff Vandermeers book signing the other day here in NYC. It was discussed that the audio was re-edited and has some slight differences from the printed version. He stated that due to how some things are printed ( ie pages are repeated, certain characters are written in different fonts and there are even numbers in the margins ) he felt certain things would sound better audibly so he changed them. He also made note his works are always evolving so the paperback editions may have slight revisions and edits to them. I, personally thought this was pretty cool.

Joanna (spriggana) | 148 comments Re: Dead Astronauts – I have seen an article suggesting that Borne and DA are linked, not sure about Southern Reach.

message 7: by David H. (new)

David H. (farrakut) Borne, The Strange Bird (a novella), and Dead Astronauts are all part of the same setting.

The Southern Reach trilogy is different.

Ian (RebelGeek) Seal (rebel-geek) | 855 comments It isn't reader's block, but like Tom & Veronica were saying I have too many books to listen to. [1st world problem if I ever heard of one]
I have 7 audiobooks waiting on my Libby shelf & a couple dozen on Audible including "Hogfather". I think I'm going to have to triage the library ones because there's no way I'll be able to listen to them all before they're due.

Yes. Yes you are. You are no longer Of The Body. Landru!

*keeps listening*

...and so am I! Welp, pile on many more layers, and I'll be joining you there.

And bring your copy of Binti, cos I haven't read it yet.

You’re my favorite!

Can you bake a cake with a lockpick in it?

Matthew Castanon (mattinthehat) | 19 comments Clarification maybe? Isnt hogfather the fourth Terry Pratchett novel read by the podcast? Good Omens, Wee Free Men, then Wyrd Sisters being the other three.

We never read "Wee Free Men" for S&L

Just Hogfather, Wyrd Sisters & Good Omens

Yup i see it im wrong. Veronica mentions tiffany aching a few times in the episode, and she isnt introduced until Wee Free Men. Maybe my mind just assumed there was a book pick of something ive read 3 or 4 times. Sorry!

It is on the Secret List, though.

I don't see it on the Secret List. Which version so you have?

message 22: by Mark (new)

Mark (markmtz) | 2658 comments This doesn't bode well for the integrity of the Double Secret List.

message 23: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4265 comments I have been crazy busy this year, so less active in S&L than usual. But I still regularly listen to the podcast, usually while I'm on the elliptical. What struck me in this episode was Veronica (I think) implying that some of the picks this year have been less well-liked. When I look at this year's picks, I realized I've only finished 7 of them (2 I'd previously read, too). I've abandoned 3, had one on a sort of infinite backburner. I'm now reading (and enjoying, though slowly, Hogfather). This has definitely been a marmite year for me.

Some of that I blame on not digging certain writing styles, but also just not having the mental energy. I'm not sure if that counts as "reader's block" but I did find some books (in-genre and out of genre) that I flew through.

Also I liked the Binti trilogy. ;) :)
