It was only one edition of Fowles Diaries in Russia, I have this book in my library. It has 864 pages, it's hardcover.

So the 4 pages after 860 are unnumbered and include the index? The last page of the index is 864, counting on from 860?

Yes, they are unnumbered and include index (it's in the page 861, the next two contain information about publisher: mostly shop addresses and contacts, and on the last page is book data: title, author, editor, translator etc.). In the index the last is 753.
