Kathrynn | 189 comments I looked to see if this has already been covered because it sounds familiar, but can't locate the topic.

Please refresh me:

Should we include the author's title, i.e., M.D., Ph.D., etc. I realize the title cannot be separated by a comma, i.e., John Doe, M.D. because the system sees it as two names, so:

1. John Doe M.D.? (no comma between name and title), but then:

What if they have the veritable alphabet soup after their names like this:

2. Jon Doe M.D. Ph.D D.V.M.

3. Or, keep it simple and leave it all off.

(yikes!) ;-)

IMO, titles -- be they medical, legal, feudal, social, or what have you -- should be left off except if doing so is confusing.

So it's Benjamin Spock and Isaac Newton (not Dr. Benjamin Spock or Sir Isaac Newton); but it's Sir Walter Scott (because there is at least one other Walter Scott).

Of course, I am prepared to be overridden by general consensus and/or TPTB. ;D

Lisa Vegan (LisaVegan) | 2383 comments I agree with Rivka, and (honestly) I breathed a sigh of relief, because I've been leaving off all titles, the easier to combine, and it just makes sense to me anyway.

Kathrynn | 189 comments That sounds good to me, too.

Thank you.

Melody (runningtune) | 10660 comments What is the proper way to enter Jr.? With a comma before or not? It's done both ways here.

Walter Miller

Given the current way the software deals with "last names," I think we're better off without one.

Melody (runningtune) | 10660 comments Thanks.

And I was going to go back and remove Walter's comma - but you had already done it Rivka!
