Review
Jacinda may be bonded to Cassian but he’s not the one she wants to be with. While escaping his sister is captured with the help of Will they may just get her out before it’s too late. Jacinda knows that they have to save her from the Enkros or else they may not see her ever again. They send her in fully manifested in her Draki form turning her over to the Enkros with the understanding that in twenty four hours later they will plan the escape. What Jacinda finds in the compound is shocking to say the least, all the Draki are in cells treated like animals. She’s released into a fake forest where she encounters a grey Draki who is savage and determined to kill her, but the Enkros intervene before it’s too late.
Before her twenty four hours are up the Enkros take Jacinda into the lab intent on embedding a silver disk under her skin in her skull but it’s interrupted by the rescue. In their attempt to free the compound another Draki free’s the grey Draki but before they can escape Cassian is attacked by the savage Draki. If not for Will they wouldn’t get him but hunters are hot on the trail. Will they be able to escape from the Enkros once and for all? Who is the grey Draki that they freed? Will Jacinda find out what happened to her dad?
I loved Jacinda in each book she just kept getting better and better as the novels continued. In the first two I was a little on the fence I like both guys each one is unique in his own way and would be a good match for her. I was nervous because Jacinda loves both guys just in different way it’s duty to her people or following her heart in the end. I loved her sister Tamra in the first two books and I was thrilled to see her shine in her own right. The girls are kick ass heroines in this series they don’t need the guys to fight for them. I was able to connect with the characters which I find a huge plus when I’m reading a novel.
I’ve had Hidden since I finished the first two but I couldn’t bring myself to read it because I didn’t want the series to end. I started Hidden last night but it became apparent if I didn’t put it down I would be up all night reading. This morning I dove right into Jacinda’s story captivated right from the start and didn’t stop till I finished. I was nervous about how the novel would play out but the author does a fantastic job weaving an intricate story that ends the series beautifully. I’m really sorry to see it end because I loved the world of the Draki it’s such a unique play on dragons and I want more. I see potential for maybe a spin of series and hope one day we will see more of them. Hidden is an action packed adventure, loaded with suspense, mystery and even romance. The Firelight series is a must read for fans of dragon romance. I would love to wake up one more and manifest into a Draki to be able to fly would be so cool.
I haven't had much time to read. I have started my first book, but I'm not that far into it. The pink cover book is on audio, so I will start that as soon as I finish the one I am listening to now. I WILL get them both done before the deadline!

Lora’s summer was far from interesting until she catches the attention of a sexy windsurfer. Her best friend has returned from being gone all summer but something is bothering her and Lora isn’t sure what it might be. When her windsurfer shows up at her work Lora decides to seek him out where they windsurf and falls asleep only to wake up to him sitting next to her. Chance is determined to win her heart which isn’t hard because Lora quickly falls for him as well.
Things are starting to change for Lora first is starts with a stranger in the forest around fog. Wild bear attacks are happening all over the area and she’s even the target of one. Suddenly Lora’s too tired to function and forced to stay home where she learns the truth of whom and what she really is. As well as who Chance is and what their future holds. Will the dangers that are threating to destroy her get ahold of her?
I liked Lora she seems like your normal everyday girl but she has some flaws. I wasn’t sure about Chance at first he’s kind of comes on to strong. However the more we learn about his story and future with Lora it all makes sense. I’m not a huge fan of insta love I think they need to work at it a little more but they are meant to be. We don’t have another love interest so no love triangle bonus. I wanted to connect with Lora but she just accepted her future and everything going on around her like she was changing her socks.
I picked this one up as a kindle freebie a long time ago and it’s currently not available to purchase. I was drawn to the cover and the synopsis because I’m a huge fan of shifter stories. Loramendi’s story is a fast paced novel that was a quick read it’s a mix of action and romance. I think the concept is very creative I just think the story is rushed and not executed to its fullest potential. I found the idea of alternate dimensions for the supernatural was intriguing and very unique. I secretly hope that since you can’t purchase them maybe we will see them revamped because I think the author is on the right path. I enjoyed the book and I’m curious to see how it plays out in the future maybe if it’s a kindle freebie.
Just checking in to see how everyone is coming on their reading. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
My Grandma has suffered a brain aneurism, I am going to Oregon to be with family. I will be away from the computer until Saturday. Because of this, I cannot post my reviews. Sorry. I hope this doesn't hurt the team.

Book Read : The Lightning Thief | Rick Riordan | 1/1/2015
Rating : ★★★★
Review
Percy Jackson is a demi - god and unfortunately he had angered one of the main Gods of Mount Olymups, Zeus. Rumors have it that he had stolen Zeus's lightning bolt. And so, Percy with two of his friends embark on an adventurous journey to retrieve Zeus's bolt and clear Percy's name. On his journey he does manage to anger a few other gods also.
I've heard a couple of times that this series is compared to Harry Potter, but honestly if I hadn't heard about it I probably would not have noticed any similarities between the two. The mythology part of it kind of escapes me at times since I didn't really pay attention in school about all the gods, but it's explained enough that I could follow along without too much trouble. It was kind of fun really and it was kind of funny too.
The action in the book was fun but a bit predictable because Percy somehow has a knack for feeling danger brewing and then sure enough something goes wrong. I'll say one thing; Riordon is very...giving...when it comes to hints. But maybe that's because it's geared towards a younger audience. Or maybe Riordon just likes giving hints. I don't know. I can't complain too much. I didn't have any trouble reading it what so ever. Percy isn't half bad and he has some good friends.
On the negative side though, there's a tendency of Riordan to just hand you the answer to an unresolved question, undoubtedly a result of him trying to be easy on his readers - but it suggests underestimation of exactly what his audience is capable of.
In the same vein, Riordan sometimes throws in a random solution to a problem - kind of like Tolkien and his eagles - in a way that it comes out of nowhere, and seems not to fit into the plot particularly well.

Book Read : I've Got Your Number | Sophie Kinsella | 12/20/2015
Rating : ★★★★
Review
Sophie Kinsella has a wonderful knack of being whack ! There were so many parts of this story that made me laugh. Sophie Kinsella has an amazing writing style that can have me laughing out loud one minute and the next getting tears of happiness in eyes.
I’ve Got Your Number was a charming story but also quite predictable, I knew how the story would turn out but that’s also the great thing about Sophie Kinsella’s books. Despite being predictable, the humour and the characters sneak their way into your heart and that before you know it, you can’t stop reading.
The added extra of footnotes in this book, at first I didn’t actually get and several times I completely missed them until I got to the bottom of the page and realised they were there. But they definitely brought an interesting aspect to the story and brought more humour to the book.
I felt some story lines had way too much time dedicated to them and not enough romance but it was still an overall good story! I really really want their to be a sequel for I want to get to know Poppy and Sam better. There wasn't a lot of detail on them but what there was I really enjoyed. I felt some situations were sticky and exaggerated. But I really enjoyed the SMS-chats at the Scrabble party, in the dark park, and in the final scene.
At the end, I was a little bit disappointed because I (okay… Poppy) got only one kiss, and the story was over...
Mandy you can go ahead and roll. All teams can if they're still missing reviews due to the holidays.

Review
I received Dusk in return for an honest review from the author. In order to save Gage’s life he must become a dire and only by committing to be Hunters mate will Mary Anne be able to save him. The only drawback is that it’s not a onetime thing it has to happen twice and unless Hunter is happy he won’t do it again and Gage will die. The pair is kept apart with the anticipation that the connection between the two isn’t strong enough to survive and eventually Hunter will win Mary Anne over.
When Gage and Marni sneak out to take care of the witches they lose the protection forcing Hunter to flee the area with his pack. The only safe place he can see is hiding right in the Society’s own back yard of New Orleans. Hunter sure that if he gives Mary Anne the time she needs she will grow to love him, and he’s also sure that she’s the one he’s been dreaming about who will save them all. When things go horribly wrong they will all be tested when they are revealed before the Pterons.
I love Mary Anne willing to give it all up for the man she loves even if it means being with a Dire wolf shifter. I love Gage because his whole world revolves around Mary Anne and he is ok with her making the choice to turn him into a Dire doesn’t mean he’s going to let her go easy. I understand Hunter and I want to dislike him but it’s so darn hard. He’s not a bad guy just misguided.
Dusk is the second book in the Dire Wolves Chronicles which starts off right after the end of the first book. The author has taken the shifter concept adding her own unique twist creating the Dires. I love how the two worlds are starting to come together as we see the Pterons for the first time. The worlds are slowing colliding and I can’t wait to see how it’s all going to play out in the next book. I love the characters Mary Anne is one of my all-time favorites she’s thrown into the world of the supernatural but with Gage by with her she accepts and deals with it well. The characters are easy to connect with and we are given all three points of view Mary Anne, Gage, even Hunter and it’s getting harder and harder to dislike him. If not for the fact that I had to get up early I would have stayed up all night reading but I quickly finished this morning as soon as I got a chance to sit down and read. Dusk is a brilliant novel it’s action packed right from the start drawing the reader in and keeping you hooked till the very end. The author has created a beautifully written story that captures the heart as well as the imagination. My only complaint is the next book isn’t out now. I loved Dusk the whole series is amazing my top five for shifter series of all time.

Book Read : The First Phone Call from Heaven | Mitch Albom | 08May2015
Rating : ★★★★
Review
“Desire sets our compass, but real life steers our course.”
I have to admit that there is something about Mitch Albom that the reader just gets emotionally transfixed to what he writes. Be it his amazing ability to create emotions by merely weaving simple sentences together or be it his command over his craft with which he elaborates his story with intricate subtlety and panache. After reading Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven, I am easily convinced about his conviction towards his work. The First Phone Call from Heaven is somewhat another feather in his esteemed cap.
Is this his best work ? No !
Does he hit the nail on its head with what he set out to do ? Sure !
♚ Premise
The First Phone Call from Heaven closely follows the lives of the chosen residents of Coldwater, Michigan whose lives are forever altered when they start receiving phone calls from their dead loved ones. Sparking extreme media interest and frenzied support, as well as protest from those who cannot let go of the controversy of divine voices coming through man-made technology, these phone calls become the world's biggest spectacle — except to Sully Harding, who is past skepticism, and now is just downright angry with the nonsense. The sudden "miracle" is giving his young son false hope, and it's making it impossible for a non-believer like him to come to terms with his wife's tragic death; through town resources and the cooperation of his community members, he is determined to expose the phone calls as an utter hoax. Is it a real miracle or a hoax? No one knows. And the mad scramble continues.
♚ 'Yay' Moments !
As expected, Mitch Albom tugs your heart-strings with his simple, fluffy, satisfying yet at times hard to digest story full of emotions that seem truly real. The way he described the small town and the small world along-with the lifestyle of the residents of Coldwater, Michigan is indeed picturesque. Its really hard to believe that all that we are reading is part of a fiction and not real (maybe its Mitch Albom's extensive non-fiction writing that makes it easier for him to delve into these human intricacies and interactions very easily), but it definitely works well in this book.
Like other Mitch Albom works, this book also traverses in his safe territory, on his home-ground, so it is evident that he is comfortable in what he is writing and he does use that comfort for his rescue in many a situations through the book where a lot of incidents were in the 'debatable' zone. Like the way he climaxed the story with a short twist which somewhere definitely aims at calming the ruffling of feathers that could have been caused on the revelation of the truth.
The best thing about this book though is that it does provide some thought-provoking scenarios which can apply to the various facets of life aside from just spirituality. This adds depth to the story and makes it a page-turning affair, thereby a fairly quick read.
One of the other things I enjoyed in the novel is how Mitch Albom integrated the true story of Alexander Graham Bell into the narrative. Bell is just as much a part of the story as the Coldwater residents, from his first inspiration for the phone, his relationship with his deaf wife to the struggles he had afterwards in controlling his own patent.
♚ 'Nay' Moments !
His short story-esque writing which aims to blend inspiration, theology, and philosophy in between the text of a fictional plot-line, works beautifully in creating the ambiance but honestly is much too predictable and follows exactly the same path you would expect (or I expected). I do wish to see some novelty in his writing (not that his writing is anyway bad, I certainly love it, but for once I would not want to know that I am going to well up reading his work, beforehand).
Also, I have a grouse about there being so many characters. I understand that to emphasize on the impact of the multiple phone-calls it was kind of necessary to have more instances of the same, but its just too many side-stories going on which honestly wouldn't have made much of a difference, if some of them were removed, to the flow of events. I literally had begun writing down the names to keep them in mind. It would have also helped the book to be much smaller and more crispier.
Some minor details that can be annoying when you read are that Mitch Albom always describes the female characters based on looks/appearance but not the male characters. Why ? No value addition ! Weird ! The name 'Sully Harding' is just something I didn't like. I cannot seem to wrap my head around a military man named 'Sully Harding'.. just doesn't fit in my fictional book, its either too obvious owing to his Atheism or too stupid owing to his military background ! Also, how do residents of a small town, for Christ-sake, in Michigan not know how to handle a snowstorm of 'hold-your-breath' 5 inches ? There are people panicking and not being equipped for the snow. In Michigan ?! It is just too difficult to digest !
♚ Long story short..
This is a simple, smooth, beautifully written "feel good" story about love, loss and life that centers on human behavior and is almost certain to leave a smile on your face in the end no matter which side of the debate fence you are on.
Also, it does make you think (and wish) that,
What if heaven is really just a phone call away?
What if you are allowed a call or two in a lifetime?
It would be so wonderful to hear the voices of loved ones, find out how they are doing, and share with them about our joys and happiness.
Afterall,
“What in life can love not penetrate?”

Lainie's ex and the child's father tries to get Dexter and Harry jumps out the window with Dexter. Lainie and Harry take Dexter to a safe place and then they try to lure Joey away from Dexter by going to a time share resort where all sorts of fun high jinks develop. LOL
This was an enjoyable read if not very plausible. But that's why its called fiction LOL. It was a good escape from reality.

Cassia lives in a world where the Society makes all of the citizens' decisions. They are told what to eat, where to work, who to marry, how many children to have, and so much more. Cassia has always trusted the Society has the citizens' best interest at heat. When she is matched with her best friend, Xander, Cassia is certain he is her ideal match. Until Ky Markham's face flashes face flashes on her portal for an instant, and then the screen fades to black. Officials tell her it was a mistake, a cruel joke being played on Ky. But things begin to change after she sees Ky's face.
This is a reread for me. This time, I listened to it on audiobook. I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to continuing the series.

I was going to read it this week anyway so it fits perfectly ^_^

Review: I really enjoyed this. Mindy tells us of her background in a funny, self depreciating way. Her early friends and working as a writer for the US version of "The Office". I listened to this on audiobook because I felt it would be more enjoyable that way. I felt like she was just chatting with me over some drinks. I hope she continues to write other books.

Book Read : The Kite Runner | Khaled Hosseini | 15May2015
Rating : ★★★★
Review
“For you, a thousand times over.”
I happened to read Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns a couple of years ago and Mariam and Laila's memories still haunt me at times. It took me all this while to get ready to encounter another of Khaled Hosseini's spellbinders. I went back to his debut novel this time, and though it paled in comparison to A Thousand Splendid Suns, it had its own light and did shine with incandescence.
♚ Premise
An intimate story that traces across the expansive canvas of history, 40 years in Afghanistan's tragic evolution, like a kite under a gathering storm, The Kite Runner is a about a young boy, Amir, growing up in a wealthy part of Kabul, Afghanistan, the only son of a popular entrepreneur, who betrays his best friend and later gets a chance to redeem himself.
♚ 'Yay' Moments !
When I reviewed A Thousand Splendid Suns, I remember writing a specific paragraph about some of the qualities Khaled Hosseini possesses as an author. It would not be wrong if I produce the same verbiage here.
"His (Khaled Hosseini) exceptional eye for intricate detailing (be it the logistics in the story or the emotions), his outstanding panoramic expression with a smart eloquence of creating a fascinating picture of not only what happens on the outside but equally so on the effect it has on the inside of the characters is the stand-out feature of his narration. He simplifies (and at times over simplifies) each small little thing which can definitely hasp on to the readers attention."
There are atleast six extremely well-fleshed out characters, each complex and with complex relationships to one another due to family, politics and personality. And it is a definite page-turner, the events captivating and capturing them all even in the midst of the multi-layered brutality. What is also a definite achievement on the author's part is that amidst all these main characters spread out through the story that lasts over four decades, the plethora of subordinate or side-characters that come along do not feel incongruous, making the novel a cohesive attempt than just a mêlée of characters bundled in.
Children and Childhood are a pivotal part of the story, Khaled Hosseini is bang on target in his depiction of children's psychology, as he is in showcasing the non-contractual relationships between master and servant, and in his weaving of the threads between trauma, memory, and denial. For me in the climax, which was cliché-galore, young Sohrab's reaction to his new surroundings as he coped with his past was extremely authentic and heartbreaking, captured to perfection by the author.
If he colors his characters in full glory, he also paints a positive full-of-life, rare-but-real picture of Kabul full of Mulberry and pomegranate trees, green grass and playing fields and parks, markets full of the spicy aroma of kabobs, and a tightly-knit family-oriented community. His descriptions of people and of Afghanistan before and after the Taliban took control show the stark contrast between the more prosperous, westernized Afghanistan of the 1970's and the desperate, impoverished Afghanistan that was created later.
Learning about the Afghan culture, the Farsi language (relevant words of which were sprinkled almost in every paragraph through the book) and the whole life-structure that was as delicate as the ice-swirls that would develop over melted snow-puddles at one time and which collapsed into a dark pit-hole of inhuman atrocities in another moment was a topsy-turvy roller-coaster ride, all very well-defined for the reader which made the book enlightening and fascinating, all at once and not at all tedious.
♚ 'Nay' Moments !
But, the biggest flaw, if so, of this book is the part where it turns into a soap opera. I honestly think the first half of the book is exceptional and literally hooked me from the word go. But as soon as the story moved to Amir's life-story sans Hassan, with him and Baba moving to Fremont, California and their struggle with their daily lives; the inevitable love story between Amir and Soraya; Baba's death due to cancer, etc.. it seemed all too contrived and clichéd. It becomes an absolutely blockbuster of a screenplay than the heart-tugging novel that it was.
Nothing bad in that too, but with implausible sequence of events which turned out to be so obvious, it starts seeming untrustworthy after a point. Born and brought up on typical Bollywood movies, everything just fell into place exactly as I had pictured, right till the last very few pages. (Sohrab's reactions as I had mentioned above though was a fresh gush of wind in that claustrophobic obviousness, but it was far too late in the game by then). At times, during this final quarter, the only surprising elements are its sugar-sweet sentimentality.
Was Khaled Hosseini thinking of a movie when he was writing this piece of the story ? Or was he just trying a bit too hard to put all elements in one novel, more so his very first one ? Probably this is where his naivety of being a first-time writer came to the fore.
Another insignificant yet troublesome error was an inadvertent change in the names. What were Thomas and Betty Caldwell in the beginning, turned into John and Betty Caldwell towards the end. Ummm.. overlook due to the characters being non-critical to the plot ? Not good !
♚ Long story short..
The Kite Runner is not a romance, but it is a love story. A love story between two friends, fathers and sons, and those we call brothers- of the heart, if not blood. Their story touches on the complexities of familial love and accurately shows that, at times, we can love and hate those we feel the closest too. It is a sad tale, for what was lost and what was/is, endured, but also a warm one, for the colorful characters, the solidarity, the determination. Ultimately, it is a story of survival and redemption, a quick, not particularly challenging read, but one that challenges our assumptions and prejudices.
And for what its worth, it shows you Afghanistan at its beautiful best and at its horrifying worst, both with an equal penchant.. just like everything in this book, creating a spectrum of emotional compendium, which ultimately ends with hope.. a small nugget of it, a private, personal hope.. but hope nonetheless.
Afterall,
“Life goes on, unmindful of beginning or end, crisis or catharsis.. moving forward like a slow, dusty caravan of kochis (nomads)."

Golem in my Glovebox is the fourth book in the Zoey Donovan series. Her mother is still missing only now she’s been taken by a killer who has already killed the board and happens to be the most powerful empath. On her search for the killer and her mom Zoey is joined by her sexy reaper boyfriend Riley who’s also protecting her since all the other Aegis’s have been kidnapped. She also is joined by one of Bernice’s creations a golem but unlike the others this one isn’t bound to her side or mindless like the others plus he’s purse size. Will they find her mom and the other Aegis before it’s too late?
I love Zoey and her little band of Hidden who help her just like she helps them in her own way. I so wish I had my own closet monster like Maurice he’s one of my favorite supporting characters. I think the chemistry between Zoey and Riley works really well they both fit in her crazy world. The concept is unique it’s urban fantasy with a twist after all how many books have closet monsters, attic monsters, monsters under the bed, injured centaurs and dragons in the back yard. Golem in my Glovebox is a mix of action, mystery, and a whole lot of monsters with just the right amount of romance thrown in. I really enjoyed this installment in the Zoey’s world. The characters are great I have always connected with Zoey and I already have the next one on my kindle ready to go.

This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and her two sisters, Grace and Hope, have a great life with their father. They have lived in the city all their lives, have servants, and are popular. Then, a tragedy hits their family. Then a tragedy happens, their father's three merchant ships get lost in a storm, and only one reaches land. Soon, the family loses everything, except each other. Poor Grace loses her fiance, who was on one of her father's ships. With the help of the man Hope loves, the family moves to the country and begin a new life. Three years later, the father makes a trip back to the town. On the way home, he gets lost in a blizzard and ends up in an enchanted castle. I think everyone can guess what happens next.
Beauty and the Beast is favorite fairy tale, and I love this version! Grace and Hope are kind people. Beauty is smart, loves books, and honorable. There isn't anyone in this book that I disliked, which is nice. It's a good story, which explains why I keep reading it!
