A lot has happened in these 111 pages that we have read. In this short amount of time, Maya has vividly told us about the hardships in her life in a unique perspective; her unique perspective. I personally love how she wrote this book. It makes me laugh, cringe, and cheer for her all at the same time, which is a huge accomplishment. The craft she used when writing this was spectacular. She set up a mood of sadness and happiness at the same time. She created a tone of a southern African American in the 1930's. She used diction to beautifully portray how she developed over the time mentally, emotionally, and physically. So far, "I know Why the Caged Bird Sings" has been a well-written novel that has kept me interested with immensely beautiful craft.
