(view spoiler)[ I complained a lot during the first part of this book about the lack of action. This probably has something to do with having read the Iron Fey series by the same author and it being full of action. However, having finished part one, I can see now that she was setting up the relationships between Ember and everyone else because whether she does up siding or becoming involved with Dante, Cobalt/Riley, or Garret, someone is going to feel betrayed or hurt. That, I think, is going to be the big conflict go this story. Who is Ember willing to hurt to be happy and find out what Talon is really doing. (hide spoiler)]

--I actually DO like Ember for that; I feel like she has a sense of self/individuality that we don't always see in YA novels. She's her OWN person, she's not willingly going along with/doing exactly as she's told. She's got spunk! :)
--I do wonder how exactly the dragon hunters know where to find their "sleeper"; it appears, to me, as if they maybe have inside help...like from one of the dragons, maybe? They know entirely too much to be going about it all on their own.
--It's also interesting that Ember, who doesn't see the point in being attracted to/finding humans attractive, somehow for some reason finds Garret so. Like...a lot of it comes down to convenience, I'm sure--if Garret's supposed to be her love interest in this story, that would make sense, and therefore make this less interesting and more annoying, but...I'm rambling now.
--Cobalt is intriguing. I wonder what he's after, exactly. I'm assuming he's supposed to be taking on a more "villainous" role in the future of this book, but...what's he after?
--ALSO, what exactly is Dante hiding?! What does he do for his training?

Yeah, I dunno--I was just guessing that based on what's happened so far. Obviously, he's a "rogue" dragon, so...in one way or another I think at the very least Ember???? might see him as sort of villainous in the near future? Before she finds out whatever life-altering mind-changing whathaveyou I'm sure will happen before the end. XD

--I'm not really sure why this is written in two person POV... I'm not sure I LIKE it written that way, except the fact we can "see" into both Ember and Garret's thoughts. But...it seems...slightly unnecessary? Like...I don't understand why we NEED to see both these characters, unless there's a point further down the road that explains it. Overall, I'm not currently impressed with the two person POV, but the writing is decent and the story for the most part is keeping me engaged.
--I'm wondering what exactly is so important about Ember and Dante. It seems as if Talon has some sort of special interest in the pair, and I'm not sure why. It also seems like everyone's....keeping secrets? from Ember. Like, I think Dante knows what is going on, but isn't telling, but WHY does he know? WHAT does he know? They're all being really suspicious and I don't like it.
--It's weird that Cobalt hasn't shown back up yet after their illegal after midnight flight. Where is he, in hiding all of the sudden? How did he know the passcode to get into the secret room in the basement that one time?
--It's obvious Ember and Garret are meant to be love interests of sorts (or we're supposed to THINK they are) so my question is...what's so different about Ember (or maybe Garret???) that makes this possible, when dragons are not, not EVER under any circumstance, supposed to get attached/fall in love?

--I'm not sure why we're all of the sudden getting Riley's (Cobalt's) POV out of nowhere... Why didn't she start with all three POVs, instead of tossing him in in the second half? It feels a little bit like...a last-minute decision sort of thing? Was Riley originally written to NOT play a big role in this book, but during writing came to life in a way that wasn't planned? I don't understand, I guess, why we shift so quickly in the middle of this novel to include his POV unless there's a huge (and secret) reason for it to be revealed in the near future.
--Dante just...is weird. I'm wondering the same things Ember is, to be honest--why are they training separately? Why are they learning completely different things? What exactly does Talon have planned for these two?
--What is the big secret Riley is so intent on telling Ember? The one that's BOUND to lure her away from Talon and into his waiting arms? And where have his "missing" dens gone?
--What ELSE is different about Garret, that would make even Riley stop and consider him more intently? Is he somehow linked to the dragons? To Talon?
--Why is this the FIRST time we're hearing about Riley/his project to lure hatchlings away from Talon? Why is this the first time we're meeting his ex-Talon hacker friend? Why was none of this mentioned EARLIER? You'd think we'd have at the very least met the ex-hacker???? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I really didn't appreciate that cliff-hanger at the end. I feel like the author added that just so that I feel like I have to pick up the second book. And I was really looking forward to some awesome aerial combat. They're dragons! Was that too much to ask for?
Dante being the one to come hunt her is going to be really weird.
Also, I didn't like how a love triangle just came in at about 80%.
I don't know if I will continue the series sadly. I loved Kagawa's The Iron King, but this was disappointing. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I don't know that I agree--I actually really enjoyed the read, and I saw the love triangle coming from the first introduction of Riley and Garret, so that wasn't surprising to me. Better-written combat scenes would have been cool to read, but then...they're hatchlings, after all. They might have been trained to know HOW to fight, but knowing HOW and putting it into actual practice are two different things, especially considering Ember only flew like...once? the whole novel. But yes, the fight scene at the end just felt a bit...lacking overall. (hide spoiler)]
