Are you currently writing a new picture book? What's it about? Let's brainstorm together!

Adrienne Body | 10 comments I have a story stuck in my head that I can't get rid of, but am just going to have to do to make it go away and leave room for a new one lol.

it's about a stick insect who can't figure out why his friend wont talk to him... turns out he's trying to talk to a twig...

the only ending that is coming to me is "they all drink lemonade"... which .... is less than ideal lol

any other ideas to end it with?

I have been working on "Boogie in Bluestown" which will be very different from Journey to Jazzland :). More poetry I think since Blues is more poetic. I do have to be careful and not discuss depression with kids. The premise is that the main character "Etta Blue" is really sad and wants to learn more about how music can help lift her spirits.

Hey @Adrienne how about a Twig Insect - there are such things you know :)

Bonnie wrote: "I would love to swap pb ms with someone and get feedback. Anyone interested?" Not sure what you are interested in - picturebook manuscripts? I'm not sure that's wise unless you feel confident no one will steal your work...best of luck though.

Thanks for taking a look at my work.

All I can see is your cover, which is adorable. The cat has personality plus.

I just took a peek and if you're on your mobile it doesn't seem to give you the Google Preview option, only on the desk top. Perhaps this link will work???

Okay, that worked. The pictures are incredible. Lively and funny. However, there seems to be a lot of text for a picture book. Have you done a word count? For this type book, publishers recommend 600 words. They will go as high as 800 if it is really needed. You might find my post on critiquing picture books helpful.

Carmela Lanzillotti | 37 comments Thanks Bonnie. Your link is helpful. The book is targetted for grade 3/4 reading level. When I was researching many said 1200 to 1500 words which the word count falls within. I'm open to hearing more of your thoughts.

Thanks
Carmela
