Are any of you writers as well as readers? If so, do you write the same genre that you read, or not?

Mallory | 16 comments It's been an on again off again thing for me since graduating with my degree in Creative Writing. Right now I'm doing more journaling than anything, but when I do creative writing it tends to be consistent with the genres I read. Then again, it varies. I've dabbled a bit in writing for young children, and lately I've been writing shorter stories.

I used to write a *lot*, and I did NaNoWriMo for the first five years or so. I sort of drifted away from it at some point.

Much like my reading habits, when I was younger it was primarily sci-fi/fantasy, which morphed into not-quite-horror supernatural, and then to historical fiction. These days, I have a few non-fiction ideas I'd like to write about, but I just don't have time to properly do the required research.

Although I primarily read nonfiction, I seem to keep drifting back to writing primarily sci-fi. I had a profile assessment done of my NaNoWriMo novel last year, and it said my writing style was very much like nonfiction, especially food writing (which make sense since that is my ultimate favorite).

Jake | 13 comments I started with journaling recently and am now working on my first book. I'm blogging then converting it to a book format simultaniously. This is the blog. http://medium.com/@tomychildren

We are going to have a "write-in" at the library on Nov. 24 if any of you want to join us.

Sounds like fun. I'll see what works with my schedule.

Here is a proof of my book I've been working on. I'd enjoy getting some input on it. I'm probably one section and a conclusion away from printing a small batch and publishing an eBook.
