Is Fowlers Work worth the reading?

Afolayan Abolarin It takes a lazy mind to tag Fowlers work ostentatious. He is not a mere Englishman, he knows and understands the English. He is but an epitome of classic serious writers man is ever blessed with.

Tom Curley In line with what many readers have said, I find Fowler, second edition, a pleasure to browse through. I invariably end up laughing (I just read his entry on "Formal Words," for example). Also, he is actually anti-prescriptive in many ways. This is not to say that allowances need not be made for the passage of time, but I can tell you that I don't have any other reference books in my office that I read for fun.
