Just finished Chapter 17 "Of the Coming of Men into the West', after a brief pause for the library book to be returned and checked out again. I liked this chapter, mostly because I gave up on keeping any of the names straight and just read as if they were all new characters/places.
❀Tea❀ wrote: "Interesting how all of us gave up on names and just going with the story :P"I have. It's horrible. That is why it takes so long for me to read this. I finished The Hobbit about a week ago and not an issue. This book is a chore for me.
I've finished. I made a big push to finish it so I can join in the Fellowship buddy read soon.
For those still reading there are some character related stories coming up about Beren & Luthien and of Turin (who in true Tolkien style is the son of Hurin). These are good and not as confusing as some of the chapters.
I enjoyed some parts of it but often got confused as who was who due to the similar names or because a character, a place or a group were often given several names. Sometimes I found it hard to keep straight who was an elf, a man or a dwarf.
I plan to read it again someday as I hope to get more out of it and to understand it better.

Finished Ch. 18, it was long and grim and there were a lot of names. I'm excited about next chapter, since it's about Beren and Luthien.@ Pigletto There's a Fellowship buddy read? I'm totally planning on reading those after I finally finish The Silmarillion. I'll have to go find that.

And then we'll continue with rest of LotR. No set dates yet.
Few of us even planned to do read&watch BR
Thanks Tea!I just finished the Beren and Luthien chapter, and it was so incredibly sad, (view spoiler)

If you want to continue on Hobbit, I can chat with you. I won't be reading it but I think I remember enough to chat. But I'm not promising I won't mix up things with movies. P

Wait until you read Turin (aka Children of Hurin). I've read that book las..."
I am about halfway through the Turin chapter, and you are so right,(view spoiler)
I've actually reread the Hobbit too recently as well, but if anyone else wants to read it, I would love to join in the chat.
Rachel.. I am with you, although I believe I will end up finishing by the 1st! Guess I should use this to start my reads for the New Year! ;)
LOL, I just can't have this book win right now. I need to beat it. I have to get through it!!! I can do this! I know I can! Okay, I think I believe me now. :P
lolYes, you can do it!
At least you didn't specify which year. You only said by the end of the year. (I'm ignoring those 2 days in next sentence) :P
You can do it!!!I'm pretty sure that I am not going to finish in two days, maybe by the end of the week, I hope. Who knew such a short book would be so hard to finish? I'm still enjoying it, though. I just also enjoy complaining about it.
I couldn't do it. :'(A few books came dancing by and distracted me. I was dazzled by them and they lured me away. I hang my head in shame.
Blast that The Lost Hero and Wizard's First Rule. Now Eragon went flying by on his girly dragon. It was just too tempting.
I will read it. My goal, what is this, goal number 6 now, is to read it by Sunday. Wait, let me just say by next year. That way there is no pressure. :P
Ari wrote: "I just finished the Silmaril part of The Silmarillion! (Chapter 24) [spoilers removed]"Yeah, nice for a change :D
Rachel - neither could I! :( :(My aim is now to finish it by this month end. I have to be realistic as I do keep postponing it for other books, so I will take it about 20 or more pages a day and hope that at one point the book will get hold of me and I will finish it!!
Come on! It's not that bad. ☺*runs for cover*
OK, I really had to force myself to sit down and finish it. To be honest, if last few 'stories' weren't familiar to me from LotR, I'd had no idea what I've read in them. :D
Tea - I agree its not 'that bad' but it needs more concentration and is a lot more work than any other book! Guess that's why I am procrastinating so much! :P
I'm finished! I'm finished I'm finished I'm finished I'm finished! Ahahahah! Done! The last two chapters having names I recognized from Lord of the Rings helped. (view spoiler)
I agree Sri. It takes a lot of concentration. More so than what I want to put into it. It isn't bad it's just I need to be in a certain mood to read this and to have major concentration. My goodness! Ari, Congrats! This is a big deal. I want to be done, I really do.
I did it! I did it! I did it! I finished the book! I feel like there should be a huge celebration! It took me four months, but I won! I beat the book. I finished it.
Congratulations Rachel and Ari!! WOW you two have given me the inspiration to go ahead with this one! Hopefully one day soon, I shall also come here and say that I did it! :)
It's just nice to see it gone from the currently reading shelf to the read shelf. I can stop feeling disgusted with myself for not finishing it. :P I could do a happy dance. I just might!

It wouldn't be fun if we are stuck with only geography and Elves.
