Best/Worst film adaptation of a chilling novel?

Which film do you consider to be the best or worst adaptation of chilling novel?

I can't comment whether it was a good adaptation or not because I haven't read the book but I watched Misery for the 1st time a few weeks ago. It was a departure for me but my husband assured me it wasn't gory. It was an interesting story and it was only the last few minutes of the movie that I didn't like so if the novel was similar to the movie (without excessive violence/gore), I would maybe consider reading it some day.
