Candace, congratulations with your new house and state. USA is so much bigger than Denmark, in fact I donยดt think that you have any state as small as little old us. It must be a big thing for you to move that far, but I think you are going to love the sea/ocean. As a tiny country surrounded by water, we can go to the sea easily in DK, and it just dawned on me that not everybody can do that in America. It is so big that I canยดt really comprehend.
But hey..you also have mountains, desserts, wild animals, Yellowstone and so on...you might detect a tiny little envie heh heh

Yes, Aya, the US as a whole is huge, but we actually have states smaller than Denmark.๐ Rhode Island is our smallest state, only 1,214 square miles (3,144 square kilometers). And, yes, the mid-state population would have to travel far just to visit the ocean. I prefer the mountains, personally, but do enjoy a visit to the beach every so often.๐
Thanks for the good wishes, everyone! In North Carolina, we can go to the beaches AND the mountains! Haven't been to see the mountains yet, but I hear they're beautiful. Texas has beaches and mountains, too, but you have to travel so far to see them! Here, everything is much closer together.
Yes, so true about Texas. Lived there until I was 21 and only went to the beach twice and never the mountains but I fairly got around that state. To get to Corpus (and the beach) was a three plus hour schlep. And I didn't always have a car with air-conditioning ๐. It was tragic in central texas summer. I hope you still get good heat in NC.
Congratulations on your move to NC, Candace! What an exciting step to take! North Carolina sounds beautiful. Too bad about those movers though, making your quarantine so much longer...
I think for many of us Christmas wonโt be like weโre used to, but letโs make it a very happy one anyways! Next year Iโm shure weโll be able to have the good parties again!
Everyone a very merry Christmas!!!๐๐
Yes Pien, happy christmas and Jul to all my snail friends

Hi all, I just want to say hello because I've been quiet for a while with work and other things. I've been struggling to find time to read and my current read is a slow process. Thinking of you all though fellow snails and look forward to getting stuck in again when I can! Hope everyone's well and likely to get some good reading in over Christmas.
Hi Sue, good to hear from you. I hope your Holidays are happy and healthy! Lots to look forward to in the new year!
Hi all snails. I just want to say thank you to our moderators for doing such a good job keeping this group alive, and a Happy New Year to all my bookfriends - may 2021 be full of lovely readings.
Happy New Year everyone! ๐ ๐ Here's hoping 2021 will be a safer year all around and we will all have a fantastic reading year.
Ladysnails and gentlemansnails I am happy to announce that snow has fallen in Denmark โ๏ธโ๏ธ it is a rare thing and everybody is out and about.
Aya wrote: "Ladysnails and gentlemansnails I am happy to announce that snow has fallen in Denmark โ๏ธโ๏ธ it is a rare thing and everybody is out and about."That's wonderful! It was the same way in the part of Texas where I used to live. In fact, I haven't seen snow in six years.
Hi Aya; glad to hear it . Did you get a little or a lot? Do you guys ever do snowshoeing over there ?
Ha ha Fred, no we certainly do not get enough for snowshooing, we did get enough to cover the lawn and last night was so quiet, i love it.
I spoke to a lady in my supermaket this morning and they were having dificulties getting enough salt because the last time anyone needed it, for sidewalks and such, was so long ago.
Do you snowshoo? It must be good exercise.

Everyone is getting snow but me! *cries for eternity * Its weird. I live in the Northwest of the US and we haven't had a decent snowfall since November. We'll get a dusting that's gone in an hour and its been up in the 40s all January. It's the warmest winter in memory.
You folks are making me so jealous right now! We never ever get snow! The closest place with any snow in winter is 2500 km away from where I stay ๐ญ๐ญ.

Hi Aya; My wife and I attended college in Helena Montana, in the Rocky Mountains , and we loved to snow shoe. We had a dog and she would sink into the drifts and reappear covered with snow.

The snow was so deep people had to dig tunnels to get out of their homes. I don't know if they still get snow like that.
It was very nice. I'm too old for snow shoeing now. We used to find an evergreen with low branches and crawl inside....and warm each other up!

But in case you didn't know, for your own previous comments, you should be able to edit them any time, if desired. Look for the tiny links at bottom of your comment, and click the "edit" one to do so:

That's for the desktop/PC version of Goodreads;
Starman, I know about the pc version but I cannot find the hamburger icon on my phone, iphone 6!
Aya wrote: "Starman, I know about the pc version but I cannot find the hamburger icon on my phone, iphone 6!"I think you're right, Aya; you can only edit Comments on desktop version of goodreads.com (according to the help section i just perused).
2 ways to get to the desktop version on your phone
1. On any goodreads.com page, scroll allllllll the way down to the bottom, and click 'desktop version' link (on mine, it's near the far right, not with the other links). The page should then reload as desktop version.
2. On some phones, this will also work:
Open your web browser of choice, and manually type in www.goodreads.com in the URL field at top of browser. If phone still insists on loading the mobile version of the site, use method 1 above instead.
(you can switch back and to from mobile to desktop view by using the appropriate link at bottom of most goodread.com pages).
Oh Iโd love a hamburger..! Or is this off-topic?For the first time in many years, a very serious cold front is coming our (Dutch) way. Itโs going to start snowing Saturday night and it wonโt stop for 24 hours. And after that, itโs expected to freeze day and night for about five days, with more snow but if weโre not so lucky with rain that will turn the streets into ice. Snow sounds like fun for a few days, but Iโd like it better if it wasnโt combined with these low temperatures ๐ ๐งฃ ๐

Since you asked nicely:

Stay warm!
Thanks Starman, I am kind of anoyed with myself for not thinking of that myself, will try it later on.
Pien I think it is our snow and cold from Scandinavia you are getting, I agree about the icey streets. My 80 year old neighbourgh is stomping off every morning and I am so afraid of breaking something that I stay home ๐

On second thoughts Starman, I have to leave the app, open a browser and do what you said, but if it works I will have a problem with my app functioning right, right?
Pien wrote: "Thanks, Tim. The drooling is very realistic. Did you draw this? ๐"*grins* nope, but i thought it was a funny image!
and i laughed when you said it was "realistic" !
Aya wrote: "On second thoughts Starman, I have to leave the app, open a browser and do what you said, but if it works I will have a problem with my app functioning right, right?"Aya, I'm not sure... but if you are using a dedicated Goodreads app, you are probably going to be limited in functionality. The 'desktop' version of the website always has more options.
When I (rarely) access GR on my phone, I usually open a browser (Chrome or Firefox, or whatever you have), log into GR... and then I can scroll down to the bottom of a GR page to switch between the 'mobile' and 'desktop' versions as needed.
Probably best to not try using a GR app and goodreads.com via a web browser at same time?
Thanks Starman, I have deleted the app and will use computer in the future for GR, it seemes easier and also I will have a better view on things.
Yeah, I can't stand the mobile app. I always use the desktop version on my phone... so much easier for me.๐
Thanks for sharing snails, I also could not read the full text of your comments. Out with app and good riddance.
Have any of you been offered a preview of the new "beta" Goodreads.com page layout? If so, what do you think of it?
You _may_ be able to opt IN for the preview at:
https://www.goodreads.com/beta/opt_in...
or the following _may_ give you a sample beta page:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
If you do so, for now you can click the resulting (BETA) button on the new format pages to opt OUT (return to normal view), or email Goodreads with your feedback on the beta format. I've already given 'em my opinion.
The first link didn't work. The second looked normal. So I don't know what the Beta version is like. What did you think?
Keli, when I tried the beta thing, nothing changed immediately... but afterwards any new pages in GR I opened look different (mainly pages on individual books).Overall it's a much larger, more spaced-out layout, with bigger images and lots of whitespace. Sort of like a mobile phone app view.
It's a bit easier to read (because it's huge and spread out), but it also means less content on the page, and far more scrolling and clicking to see or reveal the same amount of reviews/info/etc.
I found it very... inefficient. Mainly I don't like that much of the info previously right there now is missing and/or hidden behind clicks (...), or I have to scroll down so much more to read reviews, etc.
But folks who just want easy readability, and who like to exercise their mouse, may like the Beta?
Here are screenshots I made (using free image upload service https://imgbb.com ):

That age old problem of when you finish a 5 star read and donโt know what to read next. Help? Please?๐
