WOW! What a start! The King needs to be overthrown! Poor Wesley! I am so glad the King of Assassin's got his due from Wesley.

I like that Chaol and Celaena are getting closer. What is Archer really up to?

I don't trust Archer at all. Or Roland for that matter.

I like the contrast between Celaena's girly side and her tough as nails assassin side.

Yes, one minute she is wanting chocolate cake, fine jewelry and clothing and the next she will slit your throat. Lovely combination. Do you think she could be the heir they are talking about?

What chapter are you on?

That's what I was thinking...but that seems a little too obvious so I sort of hope not. Maybe she assassinated the heir :)

I'm on 15...

I read ahead like always. OMG! I can't believe what just happened! The Kind needs to die now! Evil bastard! I am on Ch 30. I will try not to read any more but I so need to know what happens next.

Hell hath no fury like Celaena pissed. The aftermath will be very blooded.

Secrets always come back to you in your butt.

Yzabel Ginsberg (yzabelginsberg) | 247 comments Liking it so far... but I still wish Celaena was more of an actual assassin. ^^; Not just killing—really doing assassin jobs. I still have the feeling that the author kept shying away from having her do any real, cold-blooded killing (apart from dispatching some no-name guys or getting personal revenge). She could've been a very skilled warrior, and it wouldn't have made that much of a difference. I hope this makes sense. Celaena *does* kill... just not like an assassin. (Oddly enough, she'd have been more likeable to me.)

There's one potential twist I could see coming from book 1. (view spoiler) Let's see if I'm right.

I agree with you Yzabel. I'd love to see more of her assassin aspect as well.

I wonder about your spoiler too, Yzabel. The witch is up to something.

WTH! I so can't believe that! I knew Archer couldn't be trusted!

Yzabel Ginsberg (yzabelginsberg) | 247 comments OK, so I was right re: the two things I suspected. ^^

Leigh | 15450 comments Mod
Yes, you were. I was very sad about that. I like Nehemia.

Yzabel Ginsberg (yzabelginsberg) | 247 comments On the other hand, Celaena felt more like an assassin in the second part of the book. Which I appreciated. :)

I thought Celaena was bad-ass. I felt bad for both Chaol and Dorian.

Ooh, now you have me curious about Nehemia!

Here is my biggest pet peeve with these books so far...Celaena is supposed to be this badass assassin - supposedly the country's greatest, right? And she acts so independent. But, whenever there is trouble, she runs to Chaol to save her.

In the first book, it was with Cain. I feel that that fight was a huge letdown the way it played out. She should have been able to save herself rather than relying on the big strong man to save the day. In the second book, when she was poisoned with the dagger to the arm - again she ran to Chael to save the day. Very disappointing to me. I hate that the author took her independence from her and in my eyes weakened her because she is female, and apparently every female needs a man to save her.

Rant over :)

I understand the rant but both cases she was poisoned which prevented her from saving herself. I say she is bad-ass except in cases of poison. Totally!

I didn't trust him from the beginning.

I didn't either but I didn't see his involvement in Nehemia's death coming.

Me neither. There were a couple more things I was going to mention but can't remember them at the moment ;) I'll post them later when I do...

I want to know why Nehemia went willing to her death? I still want to know about the rings. Nehemia and the Queen knew about Dorian's magic/power. What part is he going to play in the grand scheme of things?
