Chris chuckled and looked at each one and chuckling as he put it in a scrap book and marked each one with sayings and smiled "they'll love this, great idea babe...ready to hit the sack? It's getting late."Delaney smiled and hugged him "I love you...move in with me love? I don't want our relationship to get worse because I'm not working there...you want to right?..."
Laila laughed softly, signing it with him at the end. "Thanks, but you had the idea in the first place… so thank you." she said, kissing his cheek. She heaved herself to her feet, and then tugged him after her into their huge new bedroom. "Better give the bed a try…" She said, smiling as she climbed onto it and patted the spot beside her. Brandon chewed his lip. Of course he would like to move in with her. But… her father would shoot him. And that would endanger her as well. "I…" He stammered, not sure if he should go with what he wanted, or what was best. "I…"
Chris snuggked with her and smiled "we'll get to see the baby tomorrow are you so excited? Our little girl...and then the wedding at night...you should call Kenna and make sure she isn't getting cold feet."Delaney bit her lip her hopes sinking fast "oh...I indetstand...you just wanted a hot girl that worked for you..." She quickly got dressed glad the jet was landing and went to get her Lilly and took her out to HQ to sign the adoption paperwork.
Laila nodded, snuggling up to him and pulling the covers over them both. "I'm very excited, and nervous too. What if something is wrong? What if she's not ok?" She asked, stressed. But she swallowed her fears when she thought about Kenna and how nervous she must be. "I'll call her right in the morning. She'll probably want someone to talk to."Brandon felt himself go cold and he shook his head frantically. "No, Delaney! That's not what I meant! That's not what I wanted!" he called after her, crushed. But she was already gone into the HQ and he sank to the floor of the jet, just staring and wondering how it could all go so wrong, so fast.
Chris smiled and yawned laying on the pillow, he groaned his back sore "hope Brand managed to finish the mission..." He texted his friend wondering about the Sandman and the kids.Delaney sighed and went to her father's office "daddy I have done big news and you have no say in this..." She said bravely holding Lilly on her hip and kissing her cheek.
Brandon lifted his phone and sighed, nodding as he texted back. 'we got him. The kids are safe.' he put his phone down, and then decided to add, 'Delaney thinks I just wanted a hot girl working for me. So she's left.' He sighed.Her father looked up and raised an eyebrow. He wasn't used to his sweet girl being so bossy and demanding. "Who are you, and what have you done with my daughter?" he asked, wondering why this small child got a kiss and he didn't.
Chris groaned "dang...you guys were perfect together, I was getting sick with all the chemistry between you guys...didn't you tell her that it wasn't true?" He looked at Laila "Mali's roommate is in trouble."Delaney took a deep breath "daddy im adopting Lilly, I already did all the paperwork. Since Im now a mom I'm quitting HQ ok? I did the paperwork already for that too..." She took a deep breath "I love you daddy..."
Brandon leaned back against the wall and sighed heavily. 'Of course I told her. Or tried to… while she was running away.' He texted back, feeling hopelessly lost. Laila chewed her lip. "What sort of trouble?" She asked, worried.
Her father stared at her then, his mouth slightly open. She was adopting a kid, and leaving him, and quitting HQ all at once. His eyes rolled back in his head as he fainted and fell to the floor.
Delaney gasped putting Lilly down and running to her father, she got his meds in him and sobbed he had a heart attack, she saw the coffee and burger on the desk feeling so angry that he went behind her bag. She called Brandon not knowing who else to trust "daddy had a heart attack...I need you please!"Chris sighed "girl issues...this girl is perfect for him but she thinks he only wanted a hot assistant...and he didn't argue with her quick rnough..."
Brandon got the text and immediately jumped up, running into HQ. He went to her father's office and found her with him on the floor. He swore and immediately called their physicians in to get him to the infirmary where they could treat him for his heart attack. He hugged Delaney, rubbing her arms. "He'll be ok. We've got great doctors."Laila smiled softly, shaking her head. "Oh relationship issues. Everyone has them." She laughed. "They're always something to look back on and learn from. Don't worry, she'll go back to him. Everyone does, after they get over their hurt feelings."
Delaney sobbed and hugged him "I caused it...I was so mean and direct...why was I so mean? If he dies that's the last thing he'll know I said to him...My mum died when I was young he is all I have."Chris nodded and sighed "Im glad we got over our issues, I mean I need to marry you still but we are on a good path...I'm so tired but I still can't sleep..."
Brandon held her against him, just rubbing her back and trying to comfort her. What else could he say? "I'm sure he'll be fine, Delaney. The doctors are working hard… and then you can tell him you love him." He whispered gently. He didn't tell her that he felt like he needed heart surgery too. His heart had failed, broken in pieces. Laila laughed softly and nodded. "Yes, I'm glad we're on a good path too. It certainly was rough here and there." She said, smiling over at him. She shifted so she was lying down, and then pat her stomach. "Come here big man, your pillow is waiting for you…"
Delaney shook her head feeling such guilt she picked up Lilly trying to use the peace the girl gave her to calm her down "get me near him...Im not letting any nurse kick me out of the room he needs me..."Chris snuggled close and kissed kissing her belly "thank you my girls...can you use our home phone and call Kriss to tell her goodnight? Make sure Daniel isn't there...not on school nights."
Brandon nodded, going to the nurses and asking that Delaney be in with her father. The nurses nodded in agreement and beckoned her in to where her father was lying on a hospital bed, on the drugs that would help heal him after his heart attack. Laila smiled, running her hands through his hair. Then she picked up the phone from the side of the bed, and dialled Krissy's number, waiting until she picked up. "Hey! Just saying goodnight!" Krissy beamed and immediately answered. "Goodnight!"
Laila smiled. "Daniel's not there?"
"Of course not! Not tonight anyways…"
Daphne swallowed feeling the tears stream down her face, she couldn't breathe she was hurting so badly. She lay her head by her dad "daddy im so sorry...I love you...please don't leave me daddy...I want you to be Lilly's grandpa...please...don't go..."Chris smiled "not on school nights ok?" He said to the phone and yawned "love you Squush see you in the morning..." He started to snore before he immediately dozed off on her belly.
Her father groaned softly and his eyes peeled open. "Del.. Del…" He murmured, shaking his head back and forth. He was too weak to do much else. He wasn't very aware of his surroundings. Krissy nodded. "Got it, big brother." She said, "Goodnight to you both." She said, hanging up. Laila smiled softly, petting Chris's hair for a moment before she too closed her eyes and drifted off.
Delaney kissed his hand "I'm here...I'm not leaving you...it wasn't about leaving you it was about me growing up...please stay...please..." She prayed and held onto Lilly "brand can you watch her?"
Her father let out a deep breathy sigh and his hand tightened around hers, but otherwise, he didn't seem to respond. Brandon nodded immediately and took the small girl into his arms, cradling her against him, whispering softly to her even though he knew she would not understand. he was just trying to keep her happy and quiet.
Delaney fitted the piece on his neck and slipped the bud in your ear "there you go...just tell her that she's safe and I love her and you'll take care of her...:she likes twinkle twinkle..." She went back to her father and looked up as the doctor came in "does he need surgery?"
Brandon looked down at Lilly and then nodded. "Thanks." he said to her, before cradling the girl in his arms, singing twinkle twinkle softly in Thai. The doctor looked to Delaney and smiled sympathetically. "Surgery is not necessary, but he is going to need a pacemaker. His heart is just too weak to function properly on its own." He said. "We will fit him with this in the next few minutes, with your permission."
Delaney swallowed and nodded "anything to help him...please..." She lay by her daddy and cried "no coffee no meat...was it worth it?..." She whispeted and nuzzled his shoulder he needed to retire that was it.Cheis got up and groaned knocking on the adjoining doors loudly "time to get up Krissy! You'll be late and forget to put on make-up when Daniel picks you up." Threats always worked to get his sister moving, but he was feeling like a slug today and crawled back into bed.
The doctor nodded and commenced on doing the procedure needed. He didn't mind that Delaney was there while it happened, as long as she didn't get in the way. When he was done, he left her father bandaged and resting in bed. Krissy jerked awake, practically falling right out of bed. "I'm up!" She called, as things banged and shifted while she evidently raced to get ready for school.
Laila chuckled, opening her eyes just a little as she watched Chris go wake up Krissy, and then come back into bed. She shifted closer to him and played with his hair. "How are you baby?"
Delaney sighed kissing his cheek lovingly caressing his withering hand gently "you need to retire daddy...I think Brandon would be a perfect replacement, and I'll still be the assistant and design everything...but please get better..."Chris smiled kissing her lips "perfect...how are you?..." He whispered and caressed her cheek "ready to meet our baby? She's going to be big...looking like a baby and not a sweet peanut!"
Her father looked over to her, his expression forlorn. "But I built that place… I don't want to leave it… I don't want to leave you." he said, squeezing her hand as best as he could. It did his heart good to hear that she would stay on as an assistant. Laila smiled softly, sitting up. "Doing alright." She said honestly. "I heard that once you hit month four, you just start ballooning, and not till this morning did I believe that. I already feel bigger than last night." She said honestly. She got up and changed into a loose dress that would fit her now larger than just chubby stomach. "I can't wait to see her." She said honestly, smiling over at him. "Though I am nervous. What if we find out that she's missing a limb or something?"
Delaney sighed kissing his cheek and forehead "daddy you are dying in this job...it's not good for your stress and it's time...I'm staying to keep on your legacy but I love Brandon and he'll do a great job...and I'll work from home so I can be with Lilly...dad please don't didapprove of her she's sich an angel..."Chris shrugged "then we deal with it, there is nothing that we can't handle...and we'll love her just the same." He pecked her lips "and I love your baby belly...I love wrapping my arms around it..."
Her father nodded finally, sighing deeply. "Alright…" He said. "I shall officially hand in my resignation tomorrow." He promised, closing his eyes again. "Tell Brandon that I approve. And I'm sure I'll love Lilly too." he promised, smiling weakly at her. Laila nodded in agreement, feeling herself relax again. "Of course." She agreed, pulling her hair up in a pony tail. She blushed when he spoke of her stomach, and she shook her head. "I'm glad you like it. It would be an incredibly long nine months if you didn't." She smiled, kissing his cheek as she grabbed the truck keys off the nightstand.
Delaney pushed his hair back and smiled lovingly at him "daddy I have to tell you something...I was kidnapped and brought to Russia...that's why I was hurt not because I fell...I'm fine and Brandon saved my life..."Chris smiled and took back his keys leading her outside to the truck and helping her in, he waved at Daniel waitibg for Krissy and drive them to the hospital "better call Kenna."
Her father's eyes widened and his mouth fell open. At first he began to panic, and then he remembered that she had been mostly alright, and that she was right here, and that she was ok, and Brandon had saved her life. "Remind me to like that kid more." He said, smiling softly. Laila hopped in the car with his help and then strapped the seat belt around her waist. "Right." She agreed, pulling out her cellphone. She dialled Kenna's number and waited. Once the line was picked up, she immediately started. "Hi, Kenna? It's Laila. Just checking to make sure you're doing alright on your big day."
Delaney smiled lightly "you trained them all really well daddy...you should be very proud...can I bring him in so you can talk? Lilly probably needs a change of pants..." She smiled lightly "I'm a mom..."Kenna cried "I can't do this! Laila I sm freaking out...I need my maid of honor, when are you getting here? My dress is missing the flowers are wrong...the wedding is ruined!"
Her father smiled proudly and nodded, he liked to hear nothing more than that. He reached over and patted her shoulder gently, "I'm proud of you, you know. You'll make a great mom." He said softly, his eyes shining. Laila's eyes widened and she gasped. "Oh my goodness… Kenna I'll be there as soon as I can, I promise!" Laila bit her lip. She still really wanted to see her baby. "Just take a breather, ok? Your wedding still isn't until tonight, you have a full day to prepare. I'll be there in an hour or so and we can work everything out then, ok?"
Delaney smiled "And you will be a great grandpa...I may need you to babysit somedays and you are fluent in Thai...would that be ok?" Kenna took deep breaths and nodded "Ok...ok..thank you Laila I wouldn't know what to do without you...Come as soon as you can...I locked myself in my room so I don't try to escape..."
Her father smiled softly, closing his eyes as he lay his head back again. "Alright, alright. I'll watch her sometimes." he promised, letting out a deep sigh as he fell asleep again. Laila nodded. "Don't panic. I'll be there soon. Deep breaths. You can do it." she promised. "Bye for now." She hung up and smiled over at Chris. "She's freaking out just a little bit…"
Delaney smiled and tucked him in, as she dimmed the lights and left a glass of water by his bed in case he got thirsty and she wasn't there. She found Brandon and Lilly reading a book together she smiled and pecked his lips and pecked her cheek "my two favorite people reading my favorite book...what are the odds?" she asked nuzzling Brand.Chris chuckled shaking his head "I assumed as much, Kenna is known for making a molehill to a mountain...it can't be as bad as she is making it." he parked in the hospital parking lot and helped her out and get put into a room with a hospital gown waiting on the table for her.
Brandon looked up from the book as Delaney returned and he smiled, reading the end, and closing it again. Lilly was sleeping against his shoulder, so he tried not to move too much as he hugged Delaney with one arm. "So I take it you've forgiven me?" he asked softly, looking hopeful. Laila smiled softly, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, that sounds like Kenna. I'll have to go over and help the poor girl after this." She said honestly, following him into the hospital. She got changed into a hospital gown, growing more nervous as she waited with him in the dark room full of equipment. A nurse came in then and smiled as she lifted the gown and spread jelly all over Laila's stomach. Then she had her lie back as she moved the camera over her stomach, and the image came on the screen.
Delaney sighed and kissed him again "of course...I'm so sorry baby...you are my guy, and...I have some news...daddy wants you to take over his job, I'll still be your assistant and help...but I'll be home with Lilly."Chris watch and grinned as he saw the baby shape "is that her?" He asked taking Laila's hand and squeezing it gently "look...she looks so peaceful, oh she's sucking her thumb!"
Brandon smiled widely then, hugging her tight and kissing her back. "Thank goodness." He said brightly. "I was worried you'd never forgive me." he said honestly. Then his eyes widened. "What…!?"The nurse nodded. "That's her."
Laila smiled brightly, her eyes tearing up. "Oh… she's so precious." She said, watching as the little shape moved around on the screen. They heard the soft heartbeat, and she bit her lip, shaking her head. She was so overwhelmed with love.
Delaney smiled lightly and nodded "it's ok...breathe, daddy is resigning and you are taking over. He trusts you more then anyone else around here...and I trust you..." She picked up Lilly and held her close "does she need a change of pants?"Chris couldn't believe it, he grinned stroking her belly "hi honey...wait...what's that..." One hand was sucking the thumb the other..."where's her arm?"
Brandon shook his head slowly in disbelief. "I just… it's too crazy to even fathom." He said honestly. "I hope I can do a good job…" He said nervously. Then he smiled at Lilly. "Yeah… I do believe she does." he said, shaking his head as he smiled. Laila tensed at Chris's question and she stared at the picture, trying to figure out what was what. It was a grainy image… but she was starting to panic. What if their daughter was missing a limb?
The nurse frowned, massaging her stomach and moving the camera around. "It might just not be picking it up clearly…" She said, searching to try and find the missing arm.
Delaney smiled and changed her diaper and got a new set of clothes on her "she'll need some potty training...that alright..." She kissed her hair and smiled at him "you'll do so good Brand...you know everything there is to kniw, you've trained half the people here..."Chris swallowed watching the baby fuss and move...no arm, he squeezed Laila's hand tighter "baby...its going to be ok...she's still so perfect..."
Brandon watched her with Lilly and he smiled. "thank you, Dels, your faith in me makes this all seem less scary." He said honestly, raking a hand over his slightly dishevelled hair. "Still don't know how I could run the place… Mali is going to need a new cover story now that I'm not his partner anymore…"Laila's breathing was short and fast. The baby was missing an arm. The baby was missing an arm because of her. It must be because of her. All her fault. On the screen, the little girl started to shift around in unease, responding to Laila's agitation.
The nurse was trying to help. "She's very healthy." She consoled. "With a normal heartbeat, and a good size. She's active for a baby, and she looks strong." She assured.
Delaney smiled and nodded "I'm sure him and Ashley would be great partners together. They are dating right? You can change the no marriage rules love..." She played with his hair and kissed him "no stressing baby..."Chris relaxed her glad she was in a gown still, he got her calmed and saw the baby calm "she's fine...she's beautiful, and it's not your fault...this probably started at the very begining was she was developing from a single cell."
Brandon nodded, smiling softly. "They would make good partners." He agreed. Then he sighed softly. "People in the agency really don't have time for families, Dels, should I really change the rule? It might just break hearts when people love people, and then they die…."Laila was thankful that Chris was there to help her through this, for if he hadn't been, then she certainly wouldn't have calmed, and maybe she would have had a miscarriage. That thought relaxed her, because she suddenly realized how lucky they were to have a baby alive at all, regardless that it was missing a limb. She nodded then and squeezed Chris's hand, managing a smile. "You're right. I'm sorry."
Delaney cupped his face "means we can't get married you know...if you don't change it, it should be a choice...people are breaking that rule anyways,..look at Chris, yes he left but he manages to focus on both."Chris smiled and kissed her lovingly "it'll be fine, she won't even miss it, and there are prosthetics that work amazingly if we choose that...I think we should name her a name that can also be a boy...like Parker or Charlie."
Brandon nodded slowly, sighing. "I just… I hate to see anyone in pain because of this. Or… or see that they can't manage both being an agent and being part of a family." he explained, sighing. "but I guess that should be their choice."Laila sat up, rubbing off the goo from her stomach with a towel. Their little girl would be born without an arm. She would know she was different, but she wouldn't miss her arm, like he said. "You're right. Thank you, Chris." She said seriously, pulling her clothes back on. "I like the name Parker." she agreed. "And Charlie is cute too. Makes me think of Charlie Brown." She admitted, smiling as she walked out with him and the pictures.
Delaney and smiled holding him close "we'll get married Brand...we can take care of Lilly and everything will be fine...everything will be perfect...I love you, and I've never loved or kissed or...anything just you."Chris smiled and hugged around her rubbing her belly "little Parker it is...she needs a middle name that's feminie though to offset it...she'll be so cute.." He got her in the truck "better get you to Kenna's."
Brandon smiled, scooping her into his arms and kissing her deeply. "Marry me, Delaney." he whispered, kissing her ear. "Marry me right now." His smile was soft, but his eyes were pleading. Now that they were allowed to marry, he knew that was what he wanted. Laila smiled, leaning back into his touch and placing her hands over his. "Ellyse?" She suggested. "Parker Ellyse?" She climbed into the truck with his help as they drove off to Kenna's place. "I hope she isn't freaking out too much…"
Delaney looked at him shocked and then nodded kissing him deeply "after daddy is out of the hospital...and I want a real wedding...with a white dress..." She smiled at him and nudged her nose close "love you..."Chris smiled "I think that's adorable and her initials will spell out PEP!" He teased and squeezed her hand. He arrived fo the mansion and could not find a place to park at all "yikes is the curcus in town?"
Brandon smiled, kissing the back of her hand. "You've got it." He promised. "We'll have a real wedding. In a big church, and you can have your white dress." he said, kissing her again. Laila laughed then, shaking her head. "She'll be the cutest little baby you ever saw." She looked out at Kenna's house and bit her lip. "Looks like people are already here." She said, sliding out of the car and walking quickly towards the house. "I'll see you at the wedding?" She called back to Chris.
Delaney smiled and kissed him lovingly "thank you...I love you so much Brand...I just got scared when you didn't reply...I guess I was just so overwhelmed...with everything..."Kenna was pacing and yelling at everyone "why can't anything go right today?!" She protested and shook her head she signed in relief hugging Laila "thank goodness y-...oh my gosh your pregnant!!"
Brandon nodded, smiling for her. He kissing her gently. "I sure hope so." he whispered. That night was soft and slow, as Brandon was no longer excited for the future. He was dreading her leaving, even though it wasn't like he couldn't see her again. He slid his clothes on again after and nodded at the door. "Should we check on the kids?"
