Chris nodded and moved it closer to her so that she could see "Alexa's first day home with Emily and Ryan." He said almost proudly and smiled at Laila "I don't even feel sad about it, I'm just happy that she's ok and her middle name is Christine." He rubbed her stomach grntly again. "Feeling better?"

Laila looked at the pictures in awe, thinking that the baby was so beautiful, just like Kenna and Chris both were. "She's beautiful." She agreed. "I'm glad you're alright with all this." She said honestly. "I was worried you would not be happy." She admitted. When he rubbed her stomach again, she closed her eyes, as he seemed to know just how to settle her stomach. "The water and your hands have made me feel much better." She admitted. "Thank you."
Chris smiled and pecked her lips "good...I'm glad, and I'm really ok. She doesn't even seem like my daughter." He nudged his nose against hers "I'll have my own kid without any qualms or drama and they will be snarky and hilarious and drive me insane!"
Laila smiled then, glad he was happy. Then she laughed, nodding. "I can picture that." She agreed. "Though hold off any baby requests for another while yet Chris, we're hardly adults." She said seriously. "But eventually... that will be nice." then she laughed softly, thinking of something. "I honestly never thought I'd ever be in this situation, ever. In a bath tub, naked, beside the Razor of the school." She shook her head, "Guess miracles do happen."
Razor smiled and kissed her lips "also dreaming about our future children..." He kissed down her neck and sighed "I'm not Razor anymore and I'm not even turned on by your naked body in the tub...I'm more scared about my girl being sick..." He sighed feeling her forehead "I'm going to get the thermometer."
Laila nodded slowly, she knew he was Chris, she just meant that back before she knew him, she knew him as Razor, and that was when she wouldn't believe where she was now. Laila pulled her knees up to her chest, curling up in the water. "I'm alright, Chris." she said softly, sighing. She got the feeling she had offended him somehow, and it made her less happy. Her stomach didn't feel as upset anymore, but she could still feel the fever. She knew if she was not in the water, she would be coated in a sheen of sweat. Maybe the thermometer was a good idea after all.
Chris came back and frowned "you don't want to hear this baby..." He said honestly and moved her hair back "I don't have the...right thermometer it'll work it's just...awkward, but I'm worried about your temperature..." He sighed "I'm sorry...it's your choice." He said honestly "and I'm not upset, I was Razor and I'm not proud of that but I am proud of the chanted youve made with me."
Laila frowned when she saw him frowning, as she couldn't imagine what she might not want to hear. And what he said just made even less sense. "What do you mean, not the right one?" She asked, still not entirely sure what he meant by all this. He sounded as if he was bringing the death sentence along with him. 'I'm sorry. I know it's horrible. It's your choice.' but what exactly was this choice of hers? She did feel better when he said he was not upset, and she found herself relaxing a little against the side of the tub.
Chris took a deep breath knowing she didn't understand and showed her the box "it's not an oral thermometer Laila..." He did not want to say it his face was bright red "but if you have a fever higher then 100 degrees I need to know. But like I said its your choice...do you understand now?"
Not an oral thermometer? But that meant it was... it was supposed to go into... Laila blushed crimson and covered her eyes with one hand, groaning in realization. She was suddenly hyper-aware of how naked she was, and that just made her more embarrassed. What was she supposed to say? 'Ah... no. I'm violently opposed to rectal thermometers to the point of preferring sickness over them?' Certainly not. But that didn't make her any more comfortable with it. She breathed deeply a few times, trying to make the redness in her face calm down. She had to do this for the sake of getting better again. Chris was worried. She couldn't be selfish. "Ok." she mumbled into the arm she had pressed her face against. "I understand, it's ok."
Chris rubbed her back and breathed along with her as he took her hand and squeezed it "ok baby." He took it out of the box and helped her position herself as he took it waiting for it to beep. He hated this, he couldn't imagine being in her place he caressed her hand "just a minute baby..." He promised and nuzzled her "you are so brave..."
Laila knew there was no hope for her blush to calm down at this point. Her whole body was on fire with the fever and now shame as she moved into a better position and waited. She tried to focus on Chris, on other things, on the the bubbles in the water, but she was so uncomfortable she finally had to resort herself to just sitting there with her head still held in her hands, waiting quietly with Chris. Why did the stupid thing take so long to get a reading? What if it didn't even read properly the first time? What if you had to do it more than once to get a correct temperature? A million thoughts whirred through Laila's mind and she bit on her lip hard. I might as well die from embarrassment. She thought.
Chris removed it quickly and sighed "120...Laila I'm calling the doctor..." He said grabbing her robe and helping her into it as she got out of the tub and into his arms. He led her to the bed and got her comfortable with a glass of water and straw as he called the doctor "I need a house call Dr. Martin. My girlfriend is running a high fever and she has had stomach issues and can't keep food down.."
Laila hardly had time to protest. She was just relieved that they were finally done taking her temperature. She stayed quiet as she got out of the tub and into the robe, nearly falling over in the process, as standing had caused a wave of nausea to wash over her. She lay in bed where he had directed her, and focused on drinking the water slowly, not on how her stomach was in turmoil. The doctor on the other end of the line nodded, saying he would be over within the hour. He instructed Chris to keep her hydrated, but not feed her anything, before hanging up again and getting into his car.
Chris sighed watching her and filled up the water after she was finished " the doctor is coming soon love..." He promised and nuzzled her "I wish there was more I could do to help...will you...do you..." He sighed not knowing what to say as he sat by her chair "feeling better?..."
Laila smiled weakly at him and reached over to squeeze his hand. "I'm alright, Chris." she promised. "I doubt its anything more than a flu." She sighed softly and lay back, closing her eyes as lifting her head had made her dizzy again. "I'll be fine." She mumbled, just as there was a knock on the door.
Chris went to get the door and sighed in relief "she's in my room, just down the hall in the bed. I took her temperature it was 120 doc..." He explained and went to text Kristine "how's my favorite scholar?"
The doctor nodded. "I see." He said, nodding. "I'll go see her and then come talk to you." He went down the hall as instructed and found Laila in bed. At this point, she was just trying to focus on breathing as her stomach had started acting up again. She hardly noticed as the doctor looked in her eyes, ears and moth, took her temperature and blood pressure and felt her stomach. She threw up water halfway through the exam, and the doctor finished up quickly. Krissy texted back immediately. "Lots of people here! They're all nice." She said immediately. "Turns out I'm pretty good in math class." She sent back.
The doctor closed the bedroom door and walked out again. "Can I ask you a few questions about your girlfriend?" He started. "How is she sleeping and eating recently? Has there been any cause for stress?" He asked.
((I haven't forgotten about our other one, I just haven't been able to get to it yet bc it has more writing and I don't want to rush it :) I'll get to it later tonight))
Chris sighed and nodded "a lot of stress im afraid...she's not sleeping, eating has never been an issue she likes her food..." He sighed "I...I put lots of stess in her, im trying not to anymore but I had a baby with her best friend...that's long past but...a lot of past traumas are becoming real for her...I don't know what to do..." He said knowing he was the cause of her sickness.
The doctor nodded, sighing. "That explains a lot." He smiled encouragingly then. "Don't worry. It's nothing fatal, but your girlfriend is really sick." He dug through his bag, looking for perscriptions. "She's malnourished because of the vomiting, and her body is just not keeping up with her exhaustion. This is easy to fix, and you can keep her here, no trips to the hospital if that is what you prefer." He looked up. "She just needs to take it easy for a while. And I strongly recommend an NJ-tube until she starts to regain strength. "It's not necessary, but it does eliminate some risks."
Chris nodded and collasped on the chair feeling sick in his heart and feeling overwhelmed and scared. "Yeah just do whatever you need to doctor...I don't have money to keep her in the hospital. I can care for her here...how would you place the NJ tube? Is it painful?" He worried about her and whether or not he was good for her. "Will she recover?"
The doctor smiled softly, nodding. "Don't worry, it's just a small tube through the nose that allows her to be fed without vomiting. It'll be nicer for her and you both." He promised. "She should be doing much better in a week or so. You could take her off the tube then and try some solid food and see how she does." He suggested. "Is that alright? It certainly isn't nevessary if you are opposed to it." He assured. "I just feel it would help her recover more quickly."
Chris shook his head "no It's fine, please anything to help her be more comfortable..." He whispered and swallowed "after she gets better... I only cause her stress and I can't bare to see her sick and...it'll be better..." He whispered and sighed "please place it..." He texted his sister "that's my girl, I'm proud of you..."
The doctor nodded and left to work on Laila. She didn't know what was happening until the sedative was already in her veins and she was half asleep. Then the doctor inserted the tube through her nose and into her stomach, taping the tube to her cheek. He hooked it up to an empty bag on an in pole so that Chris could fill it easily. Then he left her sleeping in bed and returned, packing up his things. "She's sleeping." He said. "She'll wake up in a few minutes." He placed a bag of powder on the counter. "Mix one cup of this with one cup of water and use it to fill the bag once a day for now, and then increase the helpings. Just see how she does." He smiled, patting his shoulder. "You're a good man to take care of her. Call me if you have concerns." He waved then and left.Krissy got his message and smiled, happy that she had made her brother proud. "I'm eating lunch now." She said. "What are you up to?"
Chris nodded and swallowed not feeling like a good man, he felt like he caused this...he felt like without him she's be ok. He texted his sister back his hands fumbling slightly "anything good for lunch? Laila is really sick, the doctor just left...I'm going to take care of her I can't afford a hospital room for her. Ok?"
Krissy took another bite of her sandwich as she waited for his text. When he did respond, she could practically read his regret in the text. "I'm eating a sandwich." She responded. Then she smiled as she added another text. "Don't blame yourself, ok? I'm sure she's happy that she's got you to help her through this." She assured.
Chris sighed knowing his sistrr saw him as this knight and shining armor, the do-no-wrong boy. He knew that he caused most of the stress in her life, he didn't know whether ending it would cause more stress or save her from it. "Thanks Squush. Sitting by any new friends?" He watched Laila stir and took her hand kissing it "hi beautiful..." He whispered trying to conceal the tears he felt as he looked at her pale face with that tube taped to her delicate cheek.
Krissy nodded as she texted back. "Two girls... and a boy. I'll tell you all about it when I get back, ok?" She said, as she had to get to class again. Laila was slowly waking up, and her eyes opened slowly when she felt Chris's hand and heard him speak. She blinked a couple times, trying to clear her vision. The nausea seemed to have settled a bit, but something else felt strange. Laila smiled at Chris first, to show she was alright. "I'm feeling better." She told him, knowing he would want to know. Then she crinkled her forehead in confusion. It felt as if she had tape on her face... but why... Laila reached up a hand and found the tube. Her eyes widened in surprise and horror as she followed it to where it disappeared into her. And then panic squeezed her heart tight. There was a tube... in her body. Laila wasn't seeing straight. "What... what..." She gasped.
Chris took her hand away "shh shh it's ok this is going to make you feel so much better Laila...your body isn't reacting well to food and you are malnourished. This is an NJ tube the doctor put it in it's going to feed you for now baby...the doctor said I could take care of you because I didn't want you at the hospital....you just rest, please..." He begged kissing her knuckles. He was near in tears but he held it together he had to, he had to get her well again.
Laila let him take her hand away, but she gripped it like a lifeline. Chris was the only thing keeping her grounded right now. She was trembling, and yet she was so thankful he had kept her out of the hospital. That would have caused her a near panic arrack. She tried to breathe deep, and then glanced at him, feeling only sorrow when she saw his expression. He blamed himself. She could see that. "Please..." She started, patting the bed beside her. "Please hold me...." She begged.
Chris nodded and wrapped his arms around her making sure not to pull at her tube. He tucked her head against his chest and played with her hair "I've got you..." He promised and listened to her heartbeat against his trying to sooth her racing heart "I just want you to heal..." He whispered not knowing what else to say to comfort her.
Laila immediately curled up into his arms, crying quietly. She felt poked at and it wasn't fun. This has probably been one of the most embarrassing days of her life. "I have an ugly tube strapped to my face." She whimpered. "And now I'm stuck in bed, aren't I?" She swallowed, trying to forget the slick thing that ran down the back of her throat. "The only thing that would make this worse would be if you weren't here with me." She whispered. She tucked the blanket around them both as she had started shivering again. She was just a small curled form in Chris's arms.
Chris shook his head "it doesn't taint how gorgeous you are...it's going to make you better the TPN (total parental nutrition) is going to make you strong and you won't throw up..." He promised kissing her "I had thoughts that you'd be better off if I left you...because of all the stress I cause you..."
Laila kept her face tucked against him, letting his words soothe her embarrassed heart. Poked and prodded and now this. Laila knew it would take some adjusting to get used to. But maybe it wouldn't be so bad... if it kept her from throwing up. Then a look of horror crossed her features at Chris's admission and she shook her head, looking up at him, pain swirling in her eyes. "Please, please don't ever think that." She whispered. "Chris, you don't understand how much my broken heart has been leaning on you to patch me up again. If you left... I would crumble."
Chris caressed her hair behind her ear and kissed her temple "I'm sorry you've had such a hard day today..." He said honestly and kissed her knuckles rubbing them on his cheek "it would kill me so much to be away from you baby...I know that you make my life better. He paused thinking "would it make you feel better if I got a tube as well?"
Laila nodded slowly, not sure what else to say about the day today. It had been rough. She couldn't deny that, but there was no use in complaining either. She closed her eyes and leaned into his touch, letting herself listen to his words and lock them away forever. His last comment caused her to open her eyes again however, this time in surprise. A small giggle escaped her and she shook her head. "Oh Chris, you don't have to do that."
Chris smiled picking up the phone and dialing the doctor "hey doc its Chris, yeah Laila is alright she's awake and understands what's going on. Can you do me a favor?" He asked squeezing Laila's hand supportively. Kenna packed up the suitcase and smiled "time to go home Luke...we have finals coming up and I am not failing this time!"
Laila smacked a hand over her eyes. Gosh he's stubborn... She thought, not admitting that deep down part of her was very glad for that. She rolled her eyes at him, but couldn't keep back a smile. The doctor was a little miffed by Chris's request when he heard it, but he agreed, saying he would be over in a few minutes as he had still been in town.
Luke chuckled, coming up to kiss her cheek. "This time?" He repeated. "Since when is there a this time? You've never failed!" he exclaimed, grinning as he took the suitcase and brought it out to the car. "You're the most brilliant girl I know."
((Do you have time to reply to the other one?))Chris smiled and thanked him, he hung up the phone and smiled at her lovingly caressing the tape and tube carefully. He kissed the side of her mouth and nudged her "I think we shook take a selfie to have the rest of our lives. See? Now it's a good memory." He insisted and showed Laila the text "Krissy has a guy friend, should I be worried?"
Kenna smiled and kissed him lightly "I love you...thanks for being my biggest fan. Now you can't fail either, I want to have a big graduation party to celebrate baby!"
(Yup :) getting to that now :) ))Laila laughed, shaking her head. "I don't know if I'd want to see any pictures of this." She said, smiling a little, "but I suppose if I can look back at it and laugh then that is a good thing." She was very grateful to him for being able to make the situation happy again. She grinned when she saw the text though. "Oh I don't know... You know I had my first boyfriend when I was her age..."
Luke laughed then. "Yes, you've got a fan club. Isn't that nice?" He chuckled. "I'll try my best not to fail." He promised. "But I can't write the scores. In the end whatever I get is what I get." He shrugged.
Chris looked shaken "no no no...I will not allow her to have a boyfriend this young! Next she'll want make up and go to dances...I'm not ok with this Laila." He heard the door and went to go answer the door "'ello good doctor, I don't need to be sedated just do it."Kenna cupped his face and smiled "then you'll be out of college and out into the big world...it'll just be me and Laila left..."
Laila smiled lightly, loving how protective he was of Keissy and her, it was how she knew e cared. "She'll be alright." She promised, just as he got up to answer the door. The doctor nodded, pulling out the equipment. "You might want to lie down, or at least sit down" he instructed. "Are you actually planning on using the tube? Or are you still going to eat regularly?"
Luke rolled his eyes. "The world isn't that big of a deal." he said, shrugging. "I have all I could ever want right here." He smiled gently at her. "It's not as if I'm leaving anyways, just graduating up a level."
Chris lay down next to Laila and took her hand squeezing it as the doctor getting set up "I'll eat normally...it's just to help her." He assured and sighed "I had one of these when I had my stomach pumped it's not that bad." He told Laila smiling "we'll be tube buddies!" He teased just liking to watch her smile even when she was feeling so poorly.Kenna raised a brow "I thought you were a senior? Are you staying longer?" She asked getting into the car and checking her phone...no texts from Laila, honestly she felt like the girl replaced her with Chris.
"Here it goes." The doctor said, warning him before he started to thread the tube in.Laila laughed at his comment and shook her head, marvelling at how stubborn he was, and how much he was willing to sacrifice for her. She pulled his hand up to her cheek and pressed her face into it, snuggling with him. "You really don't have to do this for me." She mumbled. When she saw what the doctor was doing, she found it too strange to watch, so she closed her eyes and tucked her face against his hand.
Luke chuckled. "I am a senior. But my point is that I have no plans to move away or travel the world like the rest of the seniors." He shrugged. "I plan to just stay here and work after I graduate." He explained. "I'm just graduating from school into a job."
The tube poked and felt strange going through his nose down to his throat it caused the urge to sneeze as he caressed his love's cheek. He found it slight uncomfortable but really he had dealt with so much worse and it was making her smile something that was worth everything to him. He couldn't exaxtly answer her as it bounced against his esophagus so he smiled in response to her ridiculous stubbornness. When it was done he sighed in relief and kissed her "see? We can still do this." Kenna nodded in understanding and just held him "won't even have to move away since your house is off campus..." She nuzzled his chest watching him "you are going to walk at graduation right?"
The doctor smiled and left quietly, leaving the two lovebirds some time. Laila finally looked up when the doctor was gone, and she immediately laughed, with tears in her eyes. She pulled herself closer as much as her tube would allow and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. "You stupid stubborn man. What on earth am I supposed to do with you?" She mumbled against his shirt. He certainly hadn't needed to go and get himself a tube, and yet he had, just because it made her feel more comfortable about this whole situation. "What is Krissy going to say when she sees this?" She asked.
Luke nodded, shrugging. "Bonuses I suppose." he smiled a little, ruffling her hair as he got into the car. "Yeah, I will." he agreed, "Where to now? My place or yours?" He inquired, raising an eyebrow.
Chris chuckled and ran his fingers through her hair as she rested against his chest "probably along the lines of stupid stubborn man...just change the word to brother and idiotically in love." He mused and kissed her tenderly "as long as you are happy that's all that matters...it may become a new fashion trend who knows?"!Kenna smiled texting Laila 'hey sis, how are you?' She looked up "sorry, your place would be perfect. Winston probably needs attention and I'm sick of my apartment." She admitted honestly and buckled in. "Have I mentioned lately how much I love being thin again?"
Laila laughed easily then and shook her head, "Yeah. That's likely." she said sarcastically. She heard her phone buzz over on the nightstand, and turned to reach for it. But the movement caused nausea to wash over her and she sank weakly back onto the pillows, closing her eyes to breathe deeply for a few seconds. Texting someone, whoever had just texted her, was definitely not worth all the pain it had just caused in her cramping gut. Luke nodded, starting up the engine. "My place it is." he agreed, driving down the road in the direction of his house. "Whats not to love about your place?" he asked, glancing over at her. Then he smiled. "You look good baby, but you've always looked good. Must be nice to not have to cart around the extra weight though."
Chris held her rubbing her stomach trying to help her get past the nausea and pain she was dealing with. He took the phone and sighed "it's Kenna shoukd I tell her what's going on?" Even after all the fun and games he had to remember she was still very sick. It scared him but she needed him more then anyone has ever needed him before.Kenna smiled and pecked his cheek "this is why I keep you around..." She sighed thinking about her apartment "it just doesn't have the love and warmth your place does...my mom decorated it and it's just too high end for me I suppose plus your bed is better."
Laila nodded weakly, swallowing. "Yes." she whispered. "Please tell her that I'm alright, I'm just on bed rest for a while." she winced, hating feeling like an invalid. Chris's massaging did help settle her stomach like it had before and she found it easier to breathe again in another few minutes. "Thank... thank you for keeping me out of the hospital." She whispered at last, opening her eyes again to look at him. "That would have been a nightmare."Luke nodded in understanding, as he got that. Then he grinned a little, reaching over to squeeze her hand as they pulled up. "Well I can't disagree with that." He teased, stealing a kiss as he got out of the car and opened the door for her. He went up to the house, unlocking it and opening it up as his dog came bounding out to greet them.
