McKensie and Lara II :)
Chris nodded and grinned getting up and putting his jacket on "you are sure you'll be alright by yourself?" He asked worried about his little sister. Kenna nodded and picked out a few from his pile and held up the formal dress "will this look nice for tonight?"
Krissy rolled her eyes and waved him towards the door. "Go on. I'll watch TV or something." she assured, wanting him to have a good time and just forget about everything for a bit. "Don't have too much fun." she teased, winking. Luke smiled, nodding. "That looks really nice." he agreed. She would look lovely for the dinner, but he would probably be wearing jeans and the nicest sweater he could find. "Let's go check out." He suggested, walking to the cash.
Chris laughed and ruffled her hair "I have my cell phone call if you need anything alright, don't let anybody in and be safe got it?"Kenna nodded and smiled "ill be right back ok?" She quickly went next door and picked out nice pants and a dashing button up shirt and tie.
Krissy nodded, her smile bright. "Of course. I'll be alright. Now get going. It's nearly lunch time and I'm sure she wouldn't mind grabbing something to eat." She urged, plopping on his couch and switching on the TV. Laila was wandering the city, her hands in her pockets. Her brother had gone back to university in the morning, and she was left with a headache and her thoughts. She found herself in the lower class part of town without even realizing it, and she marvelled at how people could live in such a rough area. She remembered that Krissy lived here, and she suddenly felt very badly for the girl.
Luke nodded, not sure where she was going, but he didn't object. He just waited in line, and then paid for her things, before walking out of the store again and looking around to try and see where she went. "Kenna?" he asked, wondering if she had gone to the bathroom.
Chris nodded and pecked her head before heading to her apartment and knocking on the door, no answer. He sighed and texted her 'stopped by your apartment and you weren't home.'Kenna covered his eyes from behind and giggled "guess who?" She laughed and gave him the shopping bag.
Laila got his text and she smiled lightly, responding. 'Taking a walk in the ghettos.' she texted back. She was secretly surprised and happy at the same time that he had actually taken the time to stop by her place. Luke chuckled. "Hmm... wow. I don't know if I'd ever be able to guess." he looked down at the shopping back in his hands and his eyes widened a little. "What's this?" He asked, surprised.
Razor really didn't like that she was walking alone in that part of town "can I pick you up and we can grab some lunch?" Just be casual about it, don't be overbearing...firm but not controlling.Kenna laughed "open it you goofball!" She pressed sitting on the bench with him.
Laila thought about his offer for a moment. She was lost in thought, and still had a slight headache, but maybe some company would be a good thing. So she texted back, 'yeah, sure, that sounds like fun'. Luke sat down on the bench and opened the bag, looking at the clothes with surprise. And then his face widened into a huge smile and he shook his head. "Kenna! You didn't have to buy anything..." He protested.
Razor smiled and picked her up with a smile "hey, so where do you want to go? There's am awesome italion restaurant up there, I used to work there when I was a kid."Kenna grinned "surprise! I know your sizes already so they will fit and my parents will approve."
Laila smiled lightly at him, glad to see him looking better, and up and about. "I'm down for italian." She said, nodding her approval. She had no idea where any good places were, so any suggestion he had was a good one. Luke grinned, stealing a quick kiss. "Then its a win win situation I suppose." he said, standing again. He tucked the clothes back into their bags and headed out of the mall again. "Ready to go break the news to your fam?"
Razor smiled and parked it was the type that the waiters come to the car windows and order. So he rolled down the window and looked over at her "what would you like?"Kenna moaned and shook her head "do I have to?...they are going to freak out! I may be shunned for all eternity!"
Laila had never been to this sort of restaurant before, and it was all very interesting to her. She smiled, thrilled to be trying something new and quickly scanned the menu. "Any pasta's to recommend?" she asked.Luke took both her hands in his, gazing at her. "Kenna... the'd rather you told them now, wouldn't they? They'll find out eventually. I think they'd like the news from your mouth, instead of someone else's." He said seriously. "I'll be there the whole time. If anything, I'll be murdered before you." He smiled lightly.
Chris looked it over "I'd recommend the baked ziti, or the manicotti...it's all really good." He had grabbed a side order of garlic bread and passed her a piece. He couldn't believe that she just...took him back like that, he felt like a street dog finally getting love.Kenna hugged him tight "I won't let them hurt a hair on your head...I promise, let's go get changed in the bathroom and leave...you know how they are about punctuality!l
Laila mulled over those options, thinking. What should she choose? They all sounded good! "Ah.... ah..... I'll go with the manicotti." She said, nodding. "I think that sounds good." She decided, hoping it would be to her liking. She took the peice he offered her and smiled her thanks, biting into it. "So. I assume you saw your sister?" she asked. Luke chuckled, but felt a little more reassured. "Alright. I'll go get changed and meet you here in five." he agreed, stealing a quick kiss before he headed to the washroom and pulled out the clothes she had got for him. Once changed, he felt way overdressed, but he wasn't one to complain. He returned from the washrooms and sat back on the bench, waiting for Kenna to come out.
Chris nodded "she's moving into my apartment, I'm not having her live in the ghettos anymore. She's my little life coach, the threw away all of my alcohol and drugs, she's a tough little cookie!"Kenna came out wearing this beautiful floral and flowing dress that fit her like a glove she smiled "you look really nice baby..." She kissed him tenderly.
Laila laughed softly at that. "Quite the little instigator. Props to her." She was surprised, in all honesty, that Razor had let his sister throw everything out, and that to her was proof enough that he was trying to change. "It's nice of you to let her stay with you." She said. And that was as close as Laila would ever get to saying, 'that's sweet.'Luke's eyes snagged on her dress and stayed glued there, running up and down the length twice before his mouth closed into an approving grin. "You're not looking bad yourself." He said, winking at her. He stole another kiss and looped his arm through hers.
Chris smiled and nodded his agreement "I just love that kid...oh, by the way I'm dropping the nickname it's just Chris now." He said peeling apart and piece of garlic bread and smiling over at her.Kenna was feeling a boost of confidence she needed as he checked her out, she held onto his arm and nuzzled him "thank you love, do you remember how to get to the mansion?" They walked back to his car in the parking lot.
Laila smiled softly, seeing him in a new light. "Chris. I liked it better than Razor anyways." She mused, smiling a little as she finished her garlic bread. "Are you..." Her brow pulled together in worry. "Are you feeling better?"Luke grinned. "No problem peanut, I was only being honest." He said seriously. Then he nodded. "Yeah. I think I rember. It's the big one in the middle of the land of the rich and famous." He winked, unlocking the car as he climbed inside.
Chris nodded and gave a smiled "Good, I like it better too...I'm not trying to be who I'm not." he tapped his fingers on the window sill and blew through his lips "Yeah, I guess I am...I don't like being...an invalid."Kenna raised a brow "Hey, you know they aren't any different then yours. Don't be prejudice please?"
Laila allowed a soft frown to crease her features. "Invalid? Of all things I would have hardly considered you invalid." She said honestly. Why did he think of himself that way? Was it because of his sister? She was curious. Luke raised his hands in surrender. "I'm not prejudice! It was a joke. I was teasing, you know, ha ha?" He said, glancing over at her, a smile hidden on his lips. He started the car and drove off.

Chris ordered the food and smiled back at Laila "thanks, that makes me feel better...really? So what were you doing downtown? Especially alone, luckily you weren't stoppef!"Kenna sighed "sorry sorry...I'm hormonal and have mood swings..." She mumbled and hugged him tightly "I love you..."
Laila smiled then, glad she had made him feel better. When he asked about what she had been doing, she shrugged slowly. "Taking a walk. Trying to clear my mind." Cause that has been hard to do since what happened between us. My walls are down and it hurts to think about. She thought softly. "My feet took me downtown." She explained, her smile small. Luke smiled again then, his eyes twinkling. "Oh I know. It's quite alright. I'm not upset or anything, don't worry." He said, pulling up in her driveway and turning off the car. "You ready for dinner?"
Chris sighed and nodded "I'm sorry I hurt you...I wish I could be the guy that I felt like last week...not the stupid, play boy that...just...isn't worth anything."Kenna nodded and took a deep breath, as she walked to the door and the butler answered it "hello James where is my mother?"
Laila swallowed, shifting in her seat. She knew where this conversation was going, even if she didn't want it to go there. "You're..." She took a breath and started again, "You're not a play boy, Chris. At least I'm starting to think you aren't. And you're definitely worth more than nothing." She said, looking down at her hands as she fiddled with the hem of her shirt. "I just..." She huffed. "I haven't had good experiences with relationships..." She wasn't going to tell him the details now, but maybe some time, when she opened up a little more, "And I guess hearing about Kenna struck a wrong chord." She said, sighing softly. Luke followed her up, standing politely beside her as she knocked and the butler answered. It was still beyond him how rich her family was.
James inclined his head politely and gestured inside. "Overseeing dinner to make sure it is done correctly." he said, giving her a small wink. "Your father's upstairs changing, but I do believe Celia and Emma are here to escort you to the table."
Chris nodded "I'm not good at relationships either...I'm just a jerk that is too scared to be commited...trust me, ask Kristine...I'm a sap and pathetic but mostly scared. I was really scared when I found out what I did to Kenna..."Kenna sighed "can you make it that desert isn't served until I give an announcement. And then you get daddy's blood pressure medicine and hide the shot gun and swords please..."
Laila was stunned into silence. She had been thinking over all the things he might reply, and this had not been one of them. The... the men she had been with before... none of them were like this. They wanted to appear tough and fearless above all else, and every time, that ended up getting Laila hurt. She looked over at him slowly, "Then you and I have a lot more in common than I first thought." She whispered, looking away again. James raised one eyebrow, but didn't question it. "As you wish m'lady. Dinner will be served soon."
Luke smiled his thanks and walked into the house with Kenna, squeezing her hand reassuringly.
Chris turned her face to look at her and moved his finger down her face and sighed "I wish I could promise you the world...that I won't hurt you...but I don't want to make that kind of promise when I can't guarentee that I can keep it...it isn't fair to you."Kenna took a deep breath and smiled seeing her mother "I'm sure the dinner will be perfect, it isn't as if you are serving royality mother!" She teased and hugged her missing her parents so much. Unlike most well off people, family was their main concern and they were never too busy for her.
Laila closed her eyes, allowing herself to just feel his gentle hand against her face. She let out a slow sigh, gathering her courage before she nodded. "Above anything, I appreciate your honesty." she said, opening her eyes slowly. "And I... I keep trying not to, but I can't help it. I do trust you, Chris, regardless of what's happened."Her mother walked in, clothed in a dress that made her look beautiful in the regal sort of way and her face immediately lit up with a smile. She embraced her daughter, laughing softly. "Welcome home, Kenna. To me, you are and will always be a princess." She said, pulling back so she could smile at her daughter. Then she noticed Luke, who was fidgeting, and her smile turned gentle. "Hello master Luke, nice to see you again. And finally to join us for dinner!"
Luke's cheeks only heated with a blush but he nodded quickly, "Thank you Mrs, It was kind of you to invite me."
She laughed. "Oh nonesense. You're practically family. Come! Sit, both of you!" She smiled at Kenna. "Your father should be down any second now."
Chris sighed feeling relief and yet also a pressure that he had to live up to it "I really care so much about you...I want to help not hinder, I broke down walls...but I want to protect you instead."Kenna smiled and ran up the stairs "Daddykins! Dinner is ready, mum doesn't want to wait much longer." She picked out his tie and giggled "you still have the one I made you?"
Laila smiled then, her first real smile in the past couple of days. His words were sweet, and they sounded genuine, making them all the more meaningful. "I should write that down on a plaque and frame it." She whispered, her smile only growing brighter. The food came right then, preventing any further comment, and Laila looked at it in anticipation, eager to put a new foot forwards with him. "Well. Let's see if this lives up to its reputation."Her father grinned, looking down at the tie. "My most prized possession." he agreed, holding her shoulders gently as he bent to kiss her. "Let's not keep your mother waiting. I'm sure she's giving that poor boy down there a whole speech. You know how she likes to talk...." he said, looping his arm through hers.
Chris chuckled feeling her a bite "it's the best, I swear...my dad used to own the restaurant and my grandpa...but he sold it to some bigwig to get money for his addiction...one day I'm taking it back." He said seriously and took a bite of his food shaking his head "not the same recipe...I wish I could make it the way my dad did."Kenna stopped him needing to find this out "dad...would you ever stop loving me even if I did something disappointing?..." She bit her lip hoping that he would take the question seriously. She knew he would be all 'Nothing in the world would stop me from loving you' but she was still scared.
Laila ate the bite he fed her, and she smiled brightly, swallowing. "Recipe or not, that was the tastiest bit of food I have ever eaten. I can only imagine what it would have been like before your father sold it." she said gently, liking that he had a passion. "Do you cook?" She asked, curious. He said he wished he could make it the way his father did, did that mean he could cook well? That was a rarity among men, and it made her curious. Her father turned, looking very serious. "Nothing you could ever do would make me stop loving you. I may get disappointed, or angry sometimes, but I'll never stop loving you." He said seriously, a smile playing on his lips. "Now lets head down stairs and get started with the food your mother is so excited about."
Chris shrugged his cheeks turning slightly red as he chuckled nervously "um...I know how to cook pretty well. But my dad, he told me I had to be an engineer or else I'd be a failure. I can cook for you one time if you'd like, Krissy thinks I can't but...I'm pretty good."Kenna smiled and hugged him as they headed downstairs, she sat by Luke and took his hand lacing her fingers with his and try to take deep breaths. But of course the baby had other ideas and she quickly headed to the bathroom.
Laila winced, knowing what strong expectations were like all too well. But her smile only returned when he offered to cook. She took another bite of her meal and nodded eagerly, swallowing. "I'd love that." She said honestly. "My brother's never cooked for me, so I don't think I've ever had someone cook something for me ever." She said honestly.Luke watched her run to the bathroom and he moved to get up, but Kenna's mother lay her hand on his arm. "I'm sure she's alright. How's your classes coming?"
Luke eyed the bathroom warily but he stayed. "It's been going well." He said honestly, "I learn something new everyday." He shrugged. "Even if it is tedious."
Chris gave a smile "you have a brother?...I didn't know that, do you have any other siblings? I'd love to make a big meal for you...some champagne and we could really...get to know eachother without any secrets or past...what do you say?"Jenna came back and shook her head at the champagne "none for me thank you..." Which was odd in of itself, she loved sparkling champagne since she was 16 at her first wedding reception.
Laila nodded easily. "Yeah, big brother. No parents. We were in the foster system, so I had tons of people I counted as siblings, but he's my biological brother, and he got us both out of the foster homes once he turned eighteen." She explained. A smile lit up her face at his suggestion. Food, champagne, and good quality time? It sounded like a dream. "I'd love that." She said honestly. "But I thought you only liked beer?" She tipped one eyebrow up and smiled. Her parents were both frowning thoughtfully by this time, but if they suspected something, they politely said nothing about it, merely carrying on pleasant chatter as the dinner was finished and the maids cleared it away. "Where's the dessert?" her mother immediately asked. "They should have brought it out by now..."
Chris paused "well im supposed to be sober, so what about sparkling apple juice?" He chuckled "im kind of ruining the romance arent i? So whats your brother like?" He asked adjusting so he was focused pnly on her.Kenna slowly stood, and looked over at her parents swallowing slowly "mom...dad i have some news...i want to apologize beforehand...i know ive disappointed you..."
Laila chuckled softly, shaking her head. She was about to respond when romance came out of his mouth. Romance? Was that what it was? She wasn't sure. But she didn't get a chance to ask about that either, as he was changing the topic. But she went along with it. "He's nice. Protective, overbearing, fluffy sort of nice." she said, smiling a little brighter. "Don't tell him I said that. He's in uni at Carleton."Her parents both turned to look at her, expressions of apprehension and worry on their features, as if they weren't quite sure what they should expect. But her mother frowned and shook her head. "You haven't disappointed us darling... you've done nothing but made us proud over and over again."
Luke squeezed Kenna's hand gently.
Chris blinked "wow, he must be brilliant...what's he majoring in? I mean obviously you are brilliant so why shouldn't he?" He was about to ask if her parents were studious but she had said that she lost them. So thankfully he shut his mouth.Kenna started to cry and had him stand up next to her "I'm having a baby...it's probably going to...be born in November..." She whispeted her voice a mere squeak "I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet..."
Laila's smile grew thoughtful and she nodded. "yeah, he's quite smart. Maybe too much so for that big head of his, but yeah, he's smart." She agreed, shrugging. "He's almost done school, and he's off getting married. I almost feel like I'll lose him once he's married." She admitted, not really meaning to have said that, it just kind of happened. Luke held her hand the whole time, wanting to be there for her.
Her mother immediately paled, stunned into silence. She looked a little green, as if she would be sick, but she kept quiet.
Her father, however, darkened with an unspoken anger, which was not directed at Kenna, but at Luke. "Was it you?"
Chris shook his head "you wont. People go off and get married, but he's devoted most of his life to you. He certainly won't forget you, and I'm sure he asked your opinion about his soon to be bride yes?"Kenna stepped in front of Luke nervously "I love him daddy, he's taking care of me and treats me like a queen...he'll love the baby too...I know that this isn't what any of us wanted...but at least I'm not facing this alone...he didn't just abandon me or the baby..." Like Razor...
Laila nodded thoughtfully, considering that. "Yes... he did ask about her..." She agreed. "Do you think that means something?" She huffed slowly. "I guess I'm just used to always having him around. I don't want to lose him to another girl." She said honestly, her smile weak. "I mean... after he's gone..." I'll have no one left, no one close enough that they can see past the walls, no one to protect me. She simply said, "I won't have anyone to tease anymore."Her father's frown stayed permanent, but it softened a little at her explanation. He had always liked Luke, but it felt like a betrayal that he had done this to his daughter. It was easier to blame him than her. "Was it you?" he asked again. "Are you the.... the.... father?"
Luke wasn't sure what to answer, what Kenna wanted him to answer. He wasn't sure if he should lie or tell the truth. "I-I..."
Chris nodded "I think it means you have to approve of her, I mean if Kristine was dating heck yes Id have to know who she was dating and whether he was worthy for her." he rubbed her arm seeing she was distressed "You can tease me all you want."Kenna shook her head and swallowed "No...he isn't...but the father isn't anyone Id ever want to see again...it was a mistake, but I'm trying to pretend that it is Luke's...and if we keep it he will be the dad."
Laila knew he was telling the truth, as he was an older brother, so obviously he would know more about being one than she would. She smiled weakly, thankful for his attempt at consoling her. "Thanks. But you might not want to make that offer just yet. You might get sick of my teasing." She said, smiling weakly. Her father sighed, deflating a little. He pinched his forehead, trying to think. After a long moment, he finally looked up again. "I still love you Kenna, and Luke, you've got guts." he said, smiling gently at them both. "Having a child is hard, I just hope you are ready for that."
Chris shook his head "Nah, Im used to Krissy teasing me. You I think would be a lot more of a challenge." he gave her a side hug "It'll be ok...I know life hasn't been good to either of us...but maybe just maybe things will be better."Kenna sighed and nodded sitting back down, and biting her lip "I don't know if I can give it away though...I know it would have a better life...but I still want to be a part of it..."
Laila let out a soft sigh and leaned her head on his shoulder. Things would get better? Now that would be nice. Laila was tired of being broken over and over, and she hoped her trust was not misplaced this time. "So are we going to try at 'us' then?" She asked softly, wondering if that was the route they had decided to take. "Because if so, then I should probably tell you more about myself before we agree to anything." She said honestly, closing her eyes. Her father shrugged. "It's your choice dear, and I can't make it for you. Just remember that it will be one you'll have to live with the rest of your life, regardless of what you choose to do." he cautioned. He squeezed her hand and gently kissed her forehead. "But your mother and I will be here for you. We always are."
Chris watched her and nodded "Do you want there to be an us?..." he asked softly playing with her fingers "I don't want to push you into something you don't feel comfortable with..." he said softly brushing a few strands from her face.Kenna whimpered "no pressure..." she mumbled and nodded "Thank you, I'm glad that I have you guys...I was scared you guys would disown me..." she said honestly and leaned her head on her father's shoulder.

Luke chuckled but didn't object, going through the sweaters and picking out a few things, and then a couple shirts as well. "Like any of these?" he asked, wanting her to like it too.
