Nupur Chowdhury (nupur_88) | 12 comments Hi Nancy!

I’m looking for betas for my sci-fi/political thriller (adult) titled The Brightest Fell. It's 94k (first draft). You can email me at nupcy.48@gmail.com or message me, if you're interested. Here's the blurb.
“The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”

And Jehan Fasih could provide you with an annotated map to perdition.

A scientist who likes to play God. A soldier who wants revenge on the man who betrayed his father and destroyed his family. And a scholar who's in love with a beautiful foreigner who might just get them all killed.

The Brightest Fell is an epic tale of loyalty, enmity, corruption, patriotism, and political intrigue.

Fifteen years ago, Jehan invented a drug that could curb the instinct for violence (and rob the taker of their free will). Fifteen minutes ago, someone blew up the metro station to get their hands on his brainchild.

Jehan must make a decision, and time is running out.

Betray the man who's the closest thing to a father he's ever had? Or sit back and watch his country burn?

P.S. The book has LGBT themes (though not much romance). And the editing is still in progress. So you might find a few typos.

Ron (allthunbs) | 15 comments Hi Nancy:

Want a tough one? I've written 7 books and I'm looking for a beta reader for the first one. We've sort of pegged the genre as parenting although there is no such genre. I don't need editing but I do need a good read on how marketable it is and how credible the story. That said, the story line is fiction but the other materials are carefully researched. The story is written in four? languages and a few dialects but the research is all current and verifiable.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Jay Storey (jayallanstorey) | 80 comments Hi, Nancy,

I'm looking for a beta-reader for my 61k YA/Scfi novel Black Heart : Arrival - the stunning sequel to my acclaimed novel, The Black Heart of the Station.

The Station, a city buried deep beneath the surface of a frozen, lifeless earth, is only months away from completing its centuries-long mission to return to its original orbit around the sun.

Seventeen-year-old Trajectory Specialist Trainee Trudy Barnard is studying to join the elite group that control the planet's movement. Though she's a brilliant student, Trudy is haunted by her illustrious pedigree: granddaughter of one of the Station's greatest heroes, and the daughter of its most powerful figure.

Trudy discovers a snippet of code hidden in the trajectory software that would obliterate the Station at the moment of Arrival. When Mission Control are unable duplicate her findings, they accuse her of grandstanding, trying to grab attention.

Ordered to drop the issue, Trudy instead ignites a firestorm that pits her against the Council and her own father when she hacks into the Mission Control system itself, searching for answers. In a desperate race against time, and targeted for death by an unknown enemy, she struggles to unravel the mystery.

But can she unlock the secret in time to save them all?

Thanks for your time.

Nick East (nickeast) | 10 comments Hi, if you’re interested, I would be very interested in some beta reading :)

I'll add a little bit of info:
Title: The Last Philosopher
Genre: Fantasy/Attempted Comedy
Summary: Before everything, it’s assumed there was nothing, but what is the difference between the two? What if they were just a matter of extreme philosophies. Extremes that can only be countered by how much someone could care?
The planet Huom has been under observation by numerous forces for longer than should technically be possible. The primary watcher, a bitter black-hole, is excited to see that there is finally a proverbial Darkness at the end of the tunnel.
On the continent of Sojurut, in the freezing mountains of Empris, the sorcerers’ nation. The oldest living sorcerer suffers from devastating nightmares. At the same time — far away in the sandstone desert of Zenon — a man filled to the brim with strange ideas is escaping a prison filled with philosophers.
What does all this have to do with arsehole Gods, hairy Dwarfs, frustrated Afreets, curious Knomes, lizard-women, and nude Áettar? Perhaps Nothing, perhaps Everything… but why can’t it be both?

Also, thanks and sorry :P

Ameena Mayer | 2 comments Hi Nancy,

I just finished a first draft of the sci fi/weird fiction novel. It is quite an emotional book and is about humans rescued by aliens from a dying earth. They are taken to a colony planet in a far-off galaxy that orbits a red dwarf sun. There, the main character, who has a lot of past trauma, finds a relationship and falls in love for the first time. But things are not as they seem, and the reader is dropped hints throughout the book that also make it a sort of mystery. The main character has a lot of flashbacks to her life on earth and in the end, everything pretty much explodes as people's true characters and vices are exposed.

I have a Masters in English and am an English teacher, but have never written a novel before. The whole thing isn't ready yet but I would like to send you part of it. I wrote it dictating with speech software and there are lots of edits I still have to do. Please let me know you are interested-you can email me at ameenamayer@hotmail.com or send a reply here. Thank you

The blurb:

All his life, Tosho, a 16 year old apprentice mason in post WW2 Germany, did everything to be the exact opposite of his Nazi father. He thought he had a lifetime ahead to build a better world. He was wrong. When he is brutally murdered, heaven is nowhere to be found. Tosho discovers he has no soul, instead his body is haunted by a feisty spirit who angered a violent rebellious group in his past: the Power Thieves. They remember, and they will not be stopped before erasing both Tosho and his spirit from the afterlife. Tosho is chased, attacked and cursed. He would endure it, if his new friends hadn’t been threatened too. Tosho owes them, for they were all victims of people like his father. He is ready to sacrifice everything to right the wrongs that have been done so that his friends get the better world he dreamt of.

Tell me if you are at all interested, I would love to hear from you!

Ippy | 8 comments Hi Nancy,

I have a 96k contemporary fantasy with a queer romance that I'd like some constructive feedback on (particularly the first few chapters). If you still have some space, the blurb is below.

Kian’s return to the disputed region of Jannath is both a homecoming and an opportunity to avenge his father’s assassination. But when simmering tensions between the Aastik and Shir explode in the form of a suicide bomb, he suddenly finds himself in the company of the enemy – by choice.

Kian’s beliefs as a Shir are challenged when he meets a mysterious Aastik man named Zal. Thrown together in the aftermath of the bombing, the two form an unlikely partnership as Kian impulsively joins Zal in his search for the twin sister he was separated from as a child. Their journey leads them into the heart of a resurfacing Aastik insurgency and a world of hidden magic that is both scorned and revered. Despite the increasing bloodshed that surrounds them, the two men forge a tender bond that defies the traditional enmity between their people.

When Zal reunites with his sister, he discovers that she is the ruthless leader of the independence movement and is determined to reclaim Jannath for the Aastik alone. As both men are drawn into the tangled web of the rebellion, Kian is forced to hide his Shir identity while Zal’s heart is torn between the man he loves and the sister he could never forget.

Anna Andrade (annaandradejb) | 12 comments Hi!

I just finished my first romance (59k words). The thing is english is not my first language, so I'd love to have your help to check If I loose something on the process as well if you do comment about the story (It'd be amazing).

Resume of my novel:

Now Peter Stein is famous. The Miami boy finally got prestige that he was so highly acclaimed for acting. It was his great chance to shine, and the 22-year-old had to follow in the footsteps dictated by his manager not to get lost in fame. Living in LA had its perks, but he didn't have the presence of a new neighbor who loved to party until dawn.
Alexa Riley was the youngest daughter of an award-winning Hollywood director. With her paternal absence supplied by money and a troubled past, she eventually moved out of rehab to a mansion in a somewhat old-fashioned neighborhood, driven by the words of pastors Langdon Stein, Peter's father, and Arthur Clifton, the first's father. Peter's love, Tori.
Alexa's rebellion distorts the environment and, especially, Peter's heart, putting everyone around and his own destiny against the union. The drama puts professional choices as well as friendships to the test in a heart-melting hot romance.

Thank so much.

Molly Stegall (mollystegall) | 168 comments Hello, I have recently finished my Fantasy book: Ashes of Revenge (103k words). I would describe this as a YA Fantasy book and would love to have a Beta Reader(s) read and review it! If you would only be willing/able to do a chapter or two that is fine as well!
Thank you!

In the land of Fantacia, there are Five Kingdoms that rule over all, each having its own species: Farian, Monstro, Mundus, Shifter, and Telik. The Kingdoms are constantly at odds and have been on the brink of war for years. That threat becomes a reality when the Monstro King issues an ultimatum: side with him or go to war.

Hoping to prevent war and take down the worst of the Kingdoms - the Monstro, Mundus, and Shifter - is Raven, a Mundus that has three-fourths of her body burned and has a knack for throwing knives. Richard, a Farian with wings as dark as the night and an unmatched skillset with a sword. Colt, a Shifter with two different colored eyes who kills with more speed an accuracy than comprehendible.

Just when the plan begins to take effect, Raven runs into the entity of Death. Surprisingly, he wants Raven to succeed, but he'll make sure she'll suffer along the way. He forces the group into the Mundus Kingdom, a place Raven never wanted to see again, unless it was nothing but ash. There, the group's secrets and pasts begin to slowly rise to the surface, threatening their plans. However, they still have one goal - revenge.

Please PM me :)

Paul Du Pré (pauldupr) | 15 comments The first eleven chapters (17K) of this big story – that’s what I got – squeaky clean and polished up. Won’t go into any one genre box: supernatural horror; near-future science fiction; romance; a bit upmarket, maybe. But from the heart (I don’t fit neatly into any box either). I’m looking for someone to read the first eleven chapters and give me feedback – an honest opinion as to whether this thing is going to be worth finishing. No obligation though: if you read the first page and think, No way! that’s fine. Just email me back, it’s not your kind of thing.
Cool?
#
Oh, wait. I’m supposed to entice you with an outline of the plot.
Well, there’s this dad who’s a bit star-crossed and he has a good son, and a cursed son, and a sensitive, spiritual daughter, and help arrives from the heavens, except she gets entangled with this troubled AI and everything goes squiffy while diabolical forces gradually encroach...
Um...
No, I don’t think that quite encompasses the tone of the book as a whole. Let me re-draft.
#
Simeon is well provided for, but adrift. Something in his past has damaged his confidence in life, though he hides it as best he can. All that Celestine knows is that she has been assigned to him – to protect, heal and redeem. And, in order to accomplish this, she must plumb the mystery of his family’s past: one son indelibly stained by evil, the other good, and a daughter, damaged and struggling to be free.

Hi Nancy, Are you still looking to beta read? I have something unusual, untrendy, unfashionable. Historical fiction in epistolary format. And it's the third part of a trilogy. Something out of the usual run of fiction on offer. This is the pitch:

Imagine Violet Blooming - 65,000 words - Mary E. Hughes

Imagine Violet Blooming offers a wonderful glimpse into the world of polite society in turn-of-the-century Toronto. Her letters take everyday events and make them memorable. It's a slice of middle class life story within the context of the development of Toronto's first permanent, professional symphony orchestra..
Imagine Violet Blooming completes The Violet Trilogy. Set in Toronto and Muskoka in the early 20th century, we are immersed in Violet's daily life as she writes to friends and family about the challenges of managing a busy household with five children. She copes with the death of parents, servant problems, organizes programs for women's musical clubs and gradually grows into her role as the wife of a celebrated musician. For fans of Victorian historical fiction.
You can reach me at here at GR where I have an author page.

"How the Viscount Lost His Bride" is set in 1845 on the wedding day of Alexander, Viscount Belgrave, and Lady Della, daughter to the Count of Pennmore. The stuffy Alexander believes he'll soon find his idea of wedded bliss, despite Della's past indiscretions.

But when the bride's mother bursts into Alexander's study to say Della has gone missing, he goes on a search to find his bride's heart belongs elsewhere.

This story is a little over 3.7k words. I'm looking to see if there's too much/too little detail in the scenery, dialogue, character likability, and the overall plot.

I am looking for beta readers for my novel, History Of The End (working title), a complete fantasy-adventure novel set in a world where witches and sorcerers are hunted by a bloodthirsty inquisition (sometimes for good reasons). It follows a group of people (from multiple POVs) who are brought together to face their past and achieve very different goals.

Blurb:
A soldier with a troubled past, a pair of mercenaries hunting a wanted criminal, a sailor who is far from home and a witch on an important mission are brought together by fate to stop a great evil.
None of them is too happy about it.

If you are interested, please contact me at: ragogray@gmail.com.
I will send you the first three chapter, and if you wish to keep reading let me know!

Please note: The novel is *not* YA. It contains strong language and some gory details.

I am looking for a beta reader for my book, 'The Weavers'.

It is 71k words long and about a 35 year old woman called Ellie Weaver. She is disconnected from pretty much everything and drinks a little too much. Her life changes when she finds a note from her estranged, recently deceased mother and she follows the trail she has left. The themes are self discovery, learning to let people in and family relationships.

I am rubbish at writing these blurbs - it also has fantastical elements to it - but I would love it if you could take a look at the first three chapters to see if you want to read the rest.

Thanks for your time.

On the planet Eden, the nations war over the way stones, as a malignant force consumes everything in its path. Genosha, the most powerful nation sends a platoon of soldiers to spy on the Soni nation. The Soni kill the entire unit taking one prisoner. For centuries, this ancient culture has lived shrouded in myth and legends. In seclusion from the outside world they want nothing to do with the high-tech modern world of the other civilizations. After capturing the soldier, the Soni are forced onto the world stage. Genosha has a precarious agenda for the hermit nation, which start a chain of events, uncovering a more disturbing threat than the mysterious force destroying Eden. The dark ones.

Zubair Dollie | 23 comments Hi Nancy!

Book Title: Perpetual Suicide
Author: Zubair Dollie
Word Count: 38k at the moments, but aiming for around 70k

I've written a 38k word, 60% completed, Dark Fantasy with a bit of comedy and romance woven in between. (LGBTQ friendly)

1st person story following Nox (male, dark skin) as he suddenly appears in a fantastical world, losing all memories of his past.

In this new world he befriends two others (a forest elf woman and a another guy who’s in a similar position as him). Together they try and figure out what’s actually going on and links it to the antagonists of the story. The main characters main objective is to find a way back to his own world:

This story contains extreme violence and a bit of foul language (just the F word). There isn’t any sex, but there are sexual innuendos.
Another trigger warning is that it talks about depression and self harm.

I’m sorry for sucking at giving a brief overview of the plot, but I hope you enjoy it.

Looking for someone to let me know if the plot is interesting enough, if the characters are likable and three dimensional, let me know if there are any annoying plot holes, etc.

Ackash Kumar | 31 comments Hi, Nancy! I'm really hope you do pick my work to read and experience. Would some first opinions on what you think of it as an overall book.

I have two finished manuscripts that I would love to share with you. Both have similar themes, but are different in their own ways. And they are not connected directly to each other but share a bond that is as mysterious as the flow of the universe. The plot heavily revolves around the zodiac and how they mature wrapped in a very human story full of flaws and acceptance towards the end. (it's not a series, really) Hence, these books focus on the sign of the title given to them. There's some power usage as well and both these books are relatively safe (some warning for trauma, fighting, sex (mentions), alcohol abuse (mentions), swearing in one of them )

these characters are also diverse in their opinions, skin colour, race, religion, body type and others. 12 books. 12 main characters. All of them have things to fix and all have their own stories to tell.

Savannah is a 20+ year old African-American from Wichita and Yannathan is a 30+ year old Aboriginal from Australia. She has an average build from her consistent diet and relatively lazy way of life. He has a climber's body from all the stunts he's pulled in his life. They both have so much to face that even they never expected.

i hope i've given you enough to consider my manuscripts (you can pick one or both, i'm fine with it) without spoiling too much. DM me if you're interested!

As she tries to spice up her life with petty acts of revenge on anyone who crosses her, she finds herself caught up in a world of drugs, crime and salted cucumbers.
The friends and enemies she makes along the way change her life forever, bringing love, laughter and sadness all served up with a twist of things uniquely Japanese.
