As for me, I've read:

Contemporary Romance

I haven't yet read any of Carla's books.

First Novel (one of my favorite categories!)
Engraved on the Heart by Tara Johnson

I so love this category and hope to read the other two nominees before the winners are announced.

General Fiction
No One Ever Asked by Katie Ganshert Send Down the Rain by Charles Martin We Hope for Better Things by Erin Bartels

This is another favorite genre for me. I'll share my pick closer to November 6. :-)

Historical
A Rumored Fortune by Joanna Davidson Politano The Seamstress by Allison Pittman Shelter of the Most High (Cities of Refuge, #2) by Connilyn Cossette

My third favorite category!! Such strong contenders. I'm not sure I'll get to Of Fire and Lions before November, but do want to read it.

Historical Romance
Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan With This Pledge (Carnton, #1) by Tamera Alexander

Hoping to read A Defense of Honor before winners announced.

Mystery/Suspense/Thriller
Called to Protect (Blue Justice, #2) by Lynette Eason Mind Games (Kaely Quinn Profiler, #1) by Nancy Mehl

May get to the Steven James book. Not sure.

Short Form
Falling for Grace (Coastal Hearts #2) by Janet W. Ferguson

Look forward to hearing the comments of others.

Sarita, I think you'll like Steven James. A little darker than most CF suspense. His writing style is engaging.

I've read eight of the winners. I didn't read the YA or Visionary category winners, but I don't read much in either of those genres.

The book of the year was a miss for me, but I know most loved it so I'm in the minority.

I watched the Facebook Live of the event. The audio wasn't good but it was still nice to be able to "be" there. Another great Christy Award season!

message 22: by Hannah (last edited Dec 01, 2019 09:52AM) (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 945 comments I read Mind Games (Kaely Quinn Profiler, #1) by Nancy Mehl recently; while I enjoyed the suspense of the twisted mental puzzle in it (think Criminal Minds), I had trouble buying into the heroine’s motivations and worries and why anyone would blame her for stuff she gets blamed for. (How would anyone blame a kid for not knowing her dad was a serial killer?!) I also had issues with her getting a flashback from (view spoiler)

So even though I haven’t read the James book that won, it’s quite likely it is more consistent in characterization. I’d have picked Eason’s any day, though!

Hannah, I agree. Among the three finalists, Lynette Eason's was my pick too!

I couldn't get past the first chapter and was surprised it won because I didn't think the writing was very strong, personally. I have liked other Christy Award winners in this category, so I don't think I'm too picky :)
