Yes, I’m contemplating 50 shades!"

That was the reason I asked. Started rereading the first yesterday. :-P

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments Finished another from the bad book list... It was not a fun one. I'm still confused as to what half of the characters were saying because the talked in circles. Hopefully my next "bad book" will be better.

message 404: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments Which "bad book" should I read next? Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1) by Emily Giffin (contemporary romance) OR A Wrinkle in Time (Time Quintet, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle (MG/YA SF/F)? I have audiobooks for each downloaded as well as print copies of each, so it doesn't matter which is next. I just requested The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and I am 50th in line with 32 copies in the Overdrive system. I think it may be a while before I get to that one.

Louise | 3376 comments I’m going to be out for most of the day today, I have 4 books completed , 1 BOM, 2 bad books and 1 mini - money.

I’ll do a mass update this evening when I’m back home. If we can concentrate on trying to get a line in bingowe need GREED, jewels, sapphire, prince, pharaoh, deluxe, caviar, champagne 😉

message 406: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2395 comments Don't forget, we can find the words in the text as a reason they fit.

Something borrowed wasn't that bad. True Chick lit though ;D
Haven't read Wrinkle in time yet though

message 412: by Maddy (last edited Nov 16, 2019 03:19PM) (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments The letters can repeat, right? Or is it like make word, cross out letters used, only then find another word with letters left?

message 413: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments Words must be made up by connecting letter-squares. Letter-squares can be connected vertically, diagonally and horizontally, in any direction (so it can be a wriggly word, not necessarily a straight line). Letter-squares can only be used once in each word.

◈ Only books finished between 18th and 25th November will count for the Envy mini challenge (i.e. books finished in week 7).
◈ Books will either count towards the main part of the challenge (the Seven Deadly Sins) or towards this mini challenge.
◈ You will gain 5 points per letter.
◈ You will gain an additional 7 points for each completed word of 7 letters or more.
◈ Words must be in English (sorry). You can use foreign language books for your spell-out letters though.
◈ Only one incomplete word will be allowed (note that bonus points for 7 letter words are only awarded on completion of the word).
◈ Standard NBRC spell-out rules apply.

I added villain and enslaved to the list. I don't think the others work unless I am blind and just not seeing the connections.

❶ Spell-It-Out: These challenges spell out a word. Then for each letter read books with titles, series names, authors (first or last names) that begin with letters that correspond to the word you choose.

(Just finished book, so looking what to pick next to fall asleep with :P)

message 437: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3376 comments A Gentle Reminder
We have had some instances where books have been posted after check in and after deadline. Please check this thread for the countdown until the next round begins.

So as to give LaurLa and myself a chance to double check everything and check-in before the deadline please make sure that all books are posted at least an hour before. If you are going to be close to deadline, let us know.

If you are reading a bad book rec’ please add the name of the person who recommended it so we can check these in quickly.

🙂

message 438: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1992 comments We’re not allowed to use character names for spell it out? Yikes!

So we can use bad book recs for the spell-it-out as well to get extra points? Just want to make sure I’m understanding correctly. If so I’ll see which of the bad book recs on my list can fit for the preferred words.

message 439: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9632 comments It says 'standard NBRC spell-out rules apply'. That means that, yes, we can use characters. ;)

Unless captains made some different decision I'm not aware of.

Checked the Captain’s thread, nothing has been mentioned about character names being excluded. I’ll update the post above.

Bad book rec’s can be used in either the lust mini challenge or the Envy Mini Challenge not both.

message 441: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1992 comments Ok! I thought character names were included but then I wasn’t sure if I was mixing up rules with another group so I wanted to clarify :) thanks!

And Ok — I have a bad book rec in progress but once I finish that I’ll move to spell it out options!

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments GRRRR... had to reschedule my Dr. appointment for this morning to next week due to a flat tire. I had a flat on Saturday and now the spare is flat too :-(
Guess I'll just have to listen to the BOM (Two Can Keep a Secret), which will also give us a T for spell-out

@Chris, Hannah and Megan - we currently don’t have any books logged for you this week. Let us know how you are getting on.

message 445: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 2127 comments Sorry, it has been a busy week. I will have about 3 - 4 more books this week. Possibly O, Y titles, V author. Not 100 % sure, but I will definitely have more books :)

message 446: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9632 comments My currently reading book was picked up for E (it has other letters too) but it's slowly going. I can pick up few shorter and quicker ones especially if we are short on books total

message 447: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments Will try to have 1 or 2 more books. Company coming in tomorrow and cooking most of the weekend because we will be having Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. After Sunday, I can get back to normal reading, hopefully.

Sometimes it's easier for me to check spreadsheet to see what's needed than here :)
