Steph (angel4492) | 28236 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Kate (ficthoughts) | 437 comments Oh I like those. I misread Wise Reading Puppets as Wine reading puppet. You can tell it's been one of those days today.

Can't believe the first shelf will be called tomorrow. It's almost time!

Judithe | 6371 comments LOL...Wine Reading Puppets! Laughing from the start is always good!

Nice to meet you both, and looking forward to reading with you! I always seem to be out of sync, timewise, but that's a geographic problem.

Names...not my forte.

Typhoon Readers (it's the season...)
The One Five
Phosphorus

OK... the last, goes with the wine vibe. The atomic number of Phosphorus is 15. It exists in two major forms, red or white. Which do you prefer? And thank you Wikipedia...gotta get the donation in before I forget (though they send up tons of reminders)

Though Golden Butte Bookbodies (changed a bit) also made me laugh.

Judithe | 6371 comments Gonna toss out the question before I run off with my pillow, who wants to wear the captain hat?

message 14: by Lis (new)

Lis | 3549 comments Golden Butte Bookbodies has a ring to it. I just put a couple options out there to get it started.

If no one else wants the title, I can do it. I’ll have a bunch of kid stuff on my plate at the beginning but should be good mid Oct when the HS sport seasons end. I think I’m the only on in the US, on Eastern STD time.

Nice to meet you Kate, I think this a first time crossing paths.

I think you’ve been stuck a few times before Judithe. We have one win together. It’s nice having a Bingo ninja on our team, especially one with a whip.

I tend to have moments of insomnia, so I’ll be on your time occasionally. Looking forward to this round.

message 15: by Kate (new)

Kate (ficthoughts) | 437 comments Golden Butte Bookbodies is good with me. It's different and got a bit of pizzazz to it.

I'm also cool with Lis being captain :) Aye aye captain Bookbody Lis. Okay that sounded weirder than I intended. Won't say it again.

Nice to meet you too :) Both of you. I've played bingo a few times now and never had a win. Although been close a few times. I think the nice thing about this game is even when you don't win you still come across new-to-you books and have fun anyway.

I'm terrible at timezones but I think that puts you at 15 hours behind me. But that might change. We don't have daylight savings in my state and I get so confused when the rest of the country (and the world in general) go forward or backward.

message 16: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (last edited Sep 17, 2019 11:50PM) (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments Which state are you in, Kate? We must be pretty close in time (I'm in Japan, and about an hour off of Sandra)

And I'm good with the names, and hooray for Captain Lis!

I'm likely to be slow to post this week, but will take lots of possible books on my reader (hubs has a bit of surgery the day after tomorrow, so hospital time...me waiting, uni hasn't started, shouldn't use internet...it's a conspiracy to provide reading time!). I'll be lurking at the very least, and co-ninja probably will get our name up before I can!

Lis | 3549 comments 2:45 am here now. Up with one of my puppies, I have 2 under a year old at the same time. It’s been nuts. I haven’t even looked at free space options. I guess today is Bingo day, so I’ll browse and try to post a few options. My list of books to read always grows during bingo.

message 20: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Vizslas. They are a Hungarian bird dog. They are known as Velcro dogs because they have to know what everyone is doing at all times and on you or at least touching someone when you’re sitting. Super affectionate and have shorter hair and less shedding. Also minimal dog odor but lots of energy.

message 23: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 23491 comments I looked them up, and they were the ones I thought from your description Lis. Very cute looking!!!! Don't envy you on the energy level, but the affection & cuteness will make up for it :D

message 24: by Kate (new)

Kate (ficthoughts) | 437 comments Im in Queensland - so you're right :) I'm in the same timezone as Sandra until she moves into the future when daylight saving starts next month.

Those dogs sound great although I think I like my sleep way too much to be able to handle puppy raising. You must be a much more patient person than I am, Lis!

I love Vizslas! We had a pair for many years (brother and sister) ...they were so great, affectionate and smart.

Lis | 3549 comments Judithe wrote: "I love Vizslas..." We lost our first boy about a year ago to kidney disease and it crushed us. He was only 8 and I may sound crazy, but he was like another person vs dog. So I found a breeder that had the same lines and got the first pup last spring. He was a rockstar! Then my original breeder had a litter and pup available this summer... Sooooo, I’m a sucker, and our youngster is something else.... love him, cute as heck, but... he’s part goat, hellhound, part love bug. Counter surfer, door opener and toy killer. Spent all day Friday at the hospital, then rushed home (my work place is on the first floor, residence is 2nd and 3rd floors) for classes. But all went well with hubs' surgical procedure, he rested in hospital on Saturday, and I picked him up this morning. That is really quick! (Japanese hospitals don't rush patients out the door...) I was actually hoping for another home-alone-day. Oh well.

Enough rambling. Time to post!

Bitter Blood (The Morganville Vampires, #13) by Rachel Caine
Bitter Blood by Rachel Caine

Date finished: 9/20/19
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:
It's been a while since I read the previous installment of the Morganville Vampires, but it was easy to jump right back in. The main enemy of the vampires was vanquished then, and two main characters married. Hmm...no more outside enemies, so what is the story? Well, rot, deception and betrayal on the inside.

Someone didn't really die, and is manipulating vampires and humans with the goal of seizing control. There are a lot of problems and thrills, and some touching moments, too. It was paced well, and hooked me in quick~fun read!

Of course, it all works out in the end. AND, Clare finally decides it's time for her to leave Morganville. It may not be permanent, but she needs a change of scenery. That's the next novel, and I'm looking forward to reading it. Sadly, it's not available at my library, so will have to wait until I have more points on Rakuten!

Week/Shelf 1 Angels
Blue Bloods (Blue Bloods, #1) by Melissa de la Cruz
Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

Date finished: 9/21/19
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:

This has been on my TBR for ages, and there has always been something I was more interested in. I'm glad I finally gave it a try.

This first novel sets the stage for what the Blue Bloods are, fallen angels, basically, that live forever. But they don't live in the same physical shell forever (cycles of rebirth and so on). They stick together, they work together, and have wealth and power, but also a feeling of responsibility to do good (sort of). The younger (more newly reborn) may be a bit wilder.

The characters are interesting, there are lots of undercurrents, and a lot of unknowns (surely to be revealed later on in the series). The story has plenty of twists and turns, too, and the secrets come out slowly...keeps you turning the pages for more.

Overall, I quite liked this (and immediately checked out the next in the series...enjoying it, too!)

If you haven't picked it up yet, give it a try. It's an interestingly different world of vampires.

Lis | 3549 comments Yay! Our first reviews...

Sorry, I’m still struggling with mine. This is my third attempt at getting into this series. I really like the author and her writing style, so this should be a nobrainer. I’m afraid there is going to be some crossover with her BDB series and I would like to get the references. Fallen angels and Lassiter.

In RL, this weekend was my daughter’s last homecoming dance. So it’s been busy, crazy, and a little dramatic. Only one meltdown over hair, so I consider that a win. She looked beautiful.

I haven't finished either of my books yet. Had unexpected visitors this weekend. My sister and her fiance dropped by so she could show me her wedding dress. It was a nice visit but took away my reading time! But I have to go in for jury duty tomorrow so I'll definitely finish at least one of my books.

Envy (Fallen Angels, #3) by J.R. Ward
Book: Envy by J.R. Ward
Series:
Fallen Angels #3
Date Read: 9/24/2019
Shelf: Angels
Pages: 454
Rating: ★★★1/2☆

Review: This is the third book in the Fallen Angels series and my third attempt at getting into this series. Still find myself a little confused, but a little less so. This is also set in Caldwell NY and follows a big battle / game of good vs evil. There are souls that have been pre-determined in this game, and this book follows Thomas "Veck" DelVecchio, son of a serial killer and latest target of the demon Devina. There are rules of conduct in this "game" but it seems that they tend to twist and turn. Veck is a homicide detective that has the fallen angel Jim Heron in his corner, as he is being monitored by Internal Affairs and his love interest, Sophia Reilly. They are pulled into this game while investigating another serial killer that Devina has unleashed on Caldwell. The Good: Very creative story with many plots, arcs and storylines. Jim and his angel sidekicks, Adrian and Eddie have to battle evil and minions. The Bad: our hero went to zero very quickly and I think there should have been a little more trust or faith... This is somewhat dark series with similar BDB elements and a little cliff hanger.

message 49: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6371 comments That's one series I've had trouble getting into, too. Like some elements, but also feel a bit of confusion....

Archangel's War HAS to fit a shelf soon...I'm forcing myself to wait a few more hours. It's my Thursday read, regardless of Mr. Randomizer. (pouty face).

Homecoming!! And with minimal tantrums! What fun, Lis! It makes my head spin that they grow up so fast!

And weddings! (My daughter sneaked into my long weekend in Tokyo to try on dresses for her upcoming ceremony...) Hope the wedding goes wonderfully well, Kate!

The spouse is home and recovering (and is on my I'd-really-really-like-to-kick-you-list for his sparkling personality, not). The procedure wasn't so overwhelming, but he's decided he deserves the couch, TV and room service. Two out of three. He wants to eat, he can get exercise as he walks all the way over to the kitchen (remember, Japanese house...it's REALLY hard to hit 10,000 steps on a day I'm stuck inside, even doing housework for most of it!) Whinge done.

But I've still got hours to go until the shelf announcement....off to sleep or find another distraction to help me not open THE BOOK.
