Steph (angel4492) | 28445 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

I'm not good with names either. What about Desert Storm Readers

Loriidae | 418 comments Hi Laura and Eldawen, I am currently on a road trip across Australia until the end of the month, so internet can be spotty. I will be able to clock in and read my book but may not post much for the first few weeks.

Thanks Eldawen if you can be captain that would be great.

Desert storm readers sounds good to me.

Where are you based? I'm in Netherlands, so I'm a sleep too when the shelf is called.

For free space I think I'll read Raven Cursed

message 19: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 1548 comments Oh, we're practically neighbours then! :-)
I'm in Luxembourg.

Jane Yellowrock - good choice! I need to continue that series as well. It's been ages since I've read the third book.

I think I'll go with Sapphire Flames.

message 20: by Loriidae (last edited Sep 18, 2019 06:00AM) (new)

Loriidae | 418 comments I live at the opposite end of the world in tropical northern Australia with husband and a very spoiled elderly cat. Our 28 year old son left home three months ago, to pursue his career in electrical engineering.

My first love is urban fantasy, but I also read epic fantasy, mystery and historicals.

I adore Jane Yellowrock and am eagerly awaiting the new release in October. I inhaled Sapphire flames the day it was released.

message 21: by Loriidae (new)

Loriidae | 418 comments For my free space I will probably finish out jill Kismet or the new nalini Singh releasing next week, but that could change depending on my mood.

message 22: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 1548 comments Cannot wait for Archangel's War to arrive in my mailbox!! :-D

Urban Fantasy is definitely my first love as well. Fantasy in general is my go-to genre whenever I don't know what to read or whenever I need something... comfortable, for lack of a better word. Though I like to read a lot of other genres, too.

I hadn't heard of the Jill Kismet series before. Are they good books?

Must be odd to have your son move out! :-)

message 23: by Laura (new)

Laura | 892 comments I already picked all the books I'm going to read this round :D

message 24: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 1548 comments Nice!! You're very organised :-)

I have... options... *innocent eyes*

I always go through the shelves as soon as they're up to see which books I could read for which shelf but then I choose spontaneously, because my choice generally also depends on what I'm going to have to read for another team challenge.

message 25: by Loriidae (new)

Loriidae | 418 comments In the past I have been very organised with a grid and possible choices for each Shelf but as I am away, that will wait until I get home. I read more than a book a week, so I don't want to read a book casually that might be the best choice for a shelf down the track.

Often I do choose something else but shelves like spinoff, I am really struggling, so if I find a book, I will keep it specifically in case that shelf is called.

Loriidae | 418 comments I am really enjoying Jill Kismet. It's a finished series and the books are quite short, only 200 pages or so, a bit blood thirsty. I guess I would call them an urban fantasy thriller. Night Shift

A later shelf call would have helped but I am going to give nalini Singh a go, although I just noticed it is almost 500 pages. But it is the only angel book that I have on my shelf and will definitely be buying the ebook on Tuesday.

I am completely and utterly in love with this series. The switch from Nevada to Catalina as the main protagonist was well done and the plot had me on my toes. I enjoyed the action, the banter, Catalina's inner voice, the jokes, the tension, all of it! I cannot wait to figure out what is really going on in Alessandros' life. It's going to be a loooong wait for the next instalment.

I seem to be drawn by bigger books these days and I just love having a nice chunkster to read in a favourite series.

Review: Sabina is part vampire part mage. Raised by her vampire family, in the last book she discovered the existence of a twin sister Masie, who has been raised by the mage side of the family. Set a week after last story Sabina goes to New York to meet her twin sister. There is constant action as Sabina becomes involved in one fight after another. Then Masie reveals that there is a prophecy, and of course Sabina is meant to be the "Chosen One " who will “Overcome centuries of hostility among the races, bring us all together peacefully, and lead us.” The minor villain was easily guessed and the hints of a love triangle annoying. The cliffhanger cemented my 3 star rating.

It was a good thing that the nuisances mostly took an end in the previous book, so this installment could continue with a sort of clean slate - at least there were less boyfriend issues and less slut references.

The plot thickened and I enjoyed all the secrecy and evil combating, mixed with mended and new friendships. I especially always enjoy the references to Cherokee ways.

The books are easy reads that do not require much brain power to entertain their readers, but sometimes that just hits the spot.

Archangel's War (#12 Guild Hunter) Nalini Singh
How it fits: Shelved as Angels p. 11
Pages: 480
Review: This book began after the cliffhanger of book #11, so definitely can not be read as a stand alone. It's really hard to write a review without spoilers as this is the culmination of a major story arc. Although the book started ted very slowly and took a long time to wind up, that was fitting as the main character, Elena was also slowly developing, building on all the changes in the last book. The ending was very drawn out but that too was fitting when I thought it through. I guess what I am saying is this was too long for one book but not long enough for two.

Nalini Singh does annoy me with her habit of ending a chapter on a cliffhanger and beginning the next chapter in the same spot. This was very obvious and jarring when listening to the audio. I was however pleased to see that the constant recapping in the previous book was kept to a minimum in this one. 4.5 stars.
