Steph (angel4492) | 28411 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Steph (angel4492) | 28411 comments Same! Hello, ladies! Mr. Randomizer must be giving us another go at a win, Melissa 😁 Hope the reno is progressing well, Valerie. We're currently on our way east to visit family in Virginia. Hubby and I are continuing our RV trek around the US, so I'm not a great choice for captain as I frequently have trouble finding reliable wifi at campgrounds. Hopefully one of you lovely ladies wouldn't mind the task.

Steph (angel4492) | 28411 comments Thinking on some team names ....
I found around the web:

Madams Of Mayhem
Snap, Crackle & Pop
Nerd Herd
Book Hoarders
Book Ends
Spine Crackers (although, I'm 100% against this travesty!)
Famished for Fiction
Alleycats
Readers Dozen
Happy Bookers
Literal Hotties
Litwits
Overbooked

Melissa Davis | 645 comments I was just reviewing my list of unused names that I keep from round to round ... I added Mavens of Mayhem within the last month! That's really close to your Madams of Mayhem! Sometimes the collective consciousness is really on fire!

Top 3:
- Madams/Mavens of Mayhem
- Nerd Herd (will always be a top choice for me - Buffy TVS 4-ever!)
- Literal Hotties

Also, as always, I don't mind Captain duties. Unless, Valerie, do you wanna be Captain? I'm cool either way.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 8497 comments I’m late!

Ok, I haven’t been a captain for the last 2 rounds so I don’t mind. I’ll just do a lot of renovations during weekends for the next month or two so I’ll be slower to respond.

On another note I like Madams of Mayhem.

LOL Melissa :D I like all 3 of those actually. Maybe Madams of Mayhem since Valerie noted liking that one too? Any are good with me.

Lol, I respond to both. My complete first name is Valerie-Claude but I prefer shorter the better. Val is fine by me.

Yeah, another member pointed those out this morning. I got the emails for his new posts, went to delete them, but they were already gone. She'd (the other SOS member) flagged them as spam, so I'm guessing TPTB were on top of it and deleted the posts as well as "his" account b/c that is gone too. Thanks for the heads up though; we always want to get rid of those and flag asap.

Archangel's Prophecy by Nalini Singh
Series: Guild Hunter #11
Shelf: Angels (shelved by 152 people)
Read: 20 Sept
Rating: ✮✮✮✮½

Review:
“Child of mortals, your time comes. For one must die for one to live.”
We've all known of and wondered about this prophecy ... what, who, when, how? With a title like this I'd assumed we'd have a wrap up, but we don't. (I actively avoid reading the blurb for my auto-buys in case of spoilers) What we do get is an intense, larger build-up to what should be the battle and wrap up in Archangel's War, but having been a bit burnt by this title, I'm not jumping to any conclusions. I am very ready for Lijuan to be dead and stay dead, as are our H/h.
“We are us. That’s how we fight this. Together.” One hand against his heart. “You’re a little bit mortal and I’m a tiny bit immortal. We did that to each other.”
I was stressing over every little change Elena experienced while also loving the growth and closeness between her and her Archangel. It's easy to remember how these two began, who they were in the beginning and how far they have come together. I found the plot of this installment both interesting and sad, with a small side story compared to what our H/h are facing with the prophecy and Elena's regression.

To spare myself hanging, I waited a year and with less than week before the next installment's release to start Archangel's Prophecy and I am so very thankful to those who warned me of the cliffhanger. The ending may not be a full cliffy, but it's more than enough to leave you not just wanting, but needing more of the story before moving into full blown war. With it having been two years since I read the previous book (Archangel's Viper), I appreciated Nalini's recaps. I really enjoyed all the interactions - big and small - with the others in the couple's life. It felt nice to reconnect with Elena and Raphael after side-character-focused stories in the previous four-ish installments (Ash/Janvier, Naasir/Andromeda, and Venom/Holly respectively).

Hands Of Fate (Veredian Chronicles, #5) by Regine Abel
Book: Hands Of Fate by Regine Abel
# Pages: 380
Rating: 5 stars
Date read: 20 September
How it fits: SOS group Bookshelf (I added before the game started)

I started this reading this series because I got the first book as a freebie. I am a little bit addicted to sf romance but in that category there are a lot rotten apples. You never know until you try it.

Book 5 is supposed to be the last of the series, barring spin-offs of course. This story revolves around Xevius, Korlethean assassin, charged to eliminate the threats the Veredian Titans represents for the future based on their Oracles and Seers. For a society obsessed with gazing into the future to find the best outcome before making any decisions...Xevius is not a puppet of his government and he meets headstrong, loyal and ass kicking Kamala.

It was a rollercoaster to read about the Veredians breaking their chains of slavery, seeking asylum, trying to integrate into a society with very different beliefs and finally standing on their own.

I hope there are spin-off because I would like more but it's better to finish on a high note I think.

Pestilence (The Four Horsemen, #1) by Laura Thalassa
Pestilence by Laura Thalassa
Series: (The Four Horsemen #1)
Shelf: Angels (shelved by 30 people)
Read: 23 Sept
Rating: 4✮

In a nutshell it's enemies turned lovers. Sarah has drawn the short straw and is sacrificing herself to wait and kill Pestilence (one of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse) when he comes in her town. It's with a lot of surprise and dismay to Sarah that Pestilence is immortal and her efforts are wasted.

''Suffering is for the living.''

Pestilence round Sarah up the following morning and brings her along his quest to rid the world of the human vermin. Sarah is no happy prisoner and Pestilence has little understanding of the frailty of human bodies. His neglect is more about ignorance and impossibility to connect with human emotions and suffering.

Like a good Hitchcock movie build up is slow. There is no insta love and every milestone in the story is to change Sarah and Pestilence from enemies to lovers.

At one point in the story, Sarah and Pestilence come upon an old married couple and it was very moving to read. No book is written in a vacuum but when you incorporate fables or concepts from long ago authors....it adds weight to the story. While it's not mentioned in the book that this scene was inspired by Ovid's fable about hospitality, I should try to read Baucis and Philemon.

Review: I loved this so much that I read it 2x in a row! I've only read one other Nalini Sing book (Slave to Sensation) but I had already planned to revisit her for this round of bingo. I am so glad that I did!

I really liked Elena. Like a lot, a lot. Raphael ... meh, he's just a bit too much on the wrong side of "nope" for me. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I definitely got "abusive guy" vibes from him. I'm hoping that it was all just part of his "not human/archangel" thing and maybe now that he's (view spoiler) it will be enough to tone down his excessive alpha male tendencies. Buuuuut ... I do realize that I am suuuuper late to this party and maybe he's just one of those things that haven't aged well. If that turns out to be the case, I'm totally willing to overlook it for now because the rest of the story was so compelling.

First, I loved that the archangels were not particularly the good guys. The whole mythology of this series was totally intriguing - how vampires are made and the consequences if they don't get made, in particular. Lijuan's interest in Uram's evolution has me pretty worried thinking about in what ways she might try to apply the new knowledge to her undead and what power she might gain from it.

Second, I loved all of the friendships in this book!! Even though there were a lot of characters that were introduced, I love Elena's inner circle! I am really interested in Raphael's Seven and I can't wait to see what secret powers The Cadre of Ten are hiding!

This book checked all my boxes: ✓ Lots of action ✓ Kickass heroine ✓ Unanswered questions ✓ No cliffhanger
And even though the relationship with Raphael made me uneasy, this was easily a five-star read for me!

Melissa Davis | 645 comments Steph, I can't believe you waited a year! That's some discipline!! I already want to jump right into book two but when I was preparing for this round, I decided I would use Nalini Sing as my go-to author b/c it's getting harder to pick books that I haven't read before. I devoured The Elder Races during the break but I saved the Moonshadow trilogy, the newest Innkeeper & Hidden Legacy books and the most recent Black Dagger Legacy book for bingo. Plus, the new Jane will be out at the end of October, she's my girl! Most anticipated of the year!!

Melissa Davis | 645 comments Val, Pestilence sounds so good! I love a slow burn!

At my grocery store, they sell black water in the organic section. No joke. My daughter, she's 13, totally wants to try it but all I can think is that it's some Four Horseman B.S.

Also, I've been watching Good Omens on repeat and the four horsemen are sooo good!!

Initially it was very hard to resist, but I put it in a TBR folder on my kindle and eventually it got pushed further and further away from the front.

That's a great idea. I've done similarly when there's an author/series I have a bunch of books TBR and binge during bingo. Enjoy!!

I DNF the book when it came out, but I really liked Good Omens the show.
