Steph (angel4492) | 28164 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

I can be being captain. I have captained several rounds before but if Sandy wants to captain, I won't stand in her way! ;)

What games are you playing, Linda? I'm only playing one other, Turf Wars over on Game Night. This is my favorite team challenge though!

I will think on names tonight!

-----

Sounds good to me! Rhyming or alliteration are my favorite ways to pick a team name :D

Turf Wars is a game 'loosely based on Risk'. We're split in to groups and reading to win turfs for points based on how our books fit certain tasks (ex on a certain listopia is more points than having an initial in a chosen word).

Well that is so cool!!! Is that someplace I can link to and lurk to see how it plays out - or is this only by invitation?

message 13: by Kaity (new)

Kaity | 743 comments You can actually still join in if you don't mind having missed the first two rounds. We'll be playing through November so there's still plenty of game left!

I love this challenge because it lasts all year and you can read whatever you want - if it matches the topic - you can also join at any time in the year.

Review: Nora and her best friend Vee are in highschool and in biology. Sitting next to each other is a must because they are BFFs.

Then the teacher changes the seating chart and Nora must now sit and learn things about Patch. Patch is a brooding, silent teenager. Nora is determined to get good grades and part of that grade is learning about the silent Patch.

Nora is very drawn to Patch but he is definitely a bad influence on her. When she meets Elliot and Jules, Nora determines to get Patch out of her mind by spending time with Elliot. But someone is stalking Nora and she is unsure it it is Patch or Elliot.

I found this book cute but pretty immature and unbelievable. Nora's mother leaves her continually to travel for work and leaves Nora alone in an isolated farm house where she lives. Nora makes some really bonehead decisions - walking through a bad side of town to find her friend and a party she is at. Really?!?

Review: Ava lives a lonely existence because of the voices she hears in her head. Even she feels she may be crazy. When in Turkey doing a photography project she suddenly becomes the focus of two groups: one wanting to protect her, one wanting to capture her. The world building around the story of Fallen Angels and their descendants is interesting, but story just didn't grab me. Seemed pretty 2 dimensional. Didn't care for the cliff hanger ending and probably won't continue with series.

I've found a lot of that 'era's' YA paranormal romance doesn't hold up anymore... which is a shame because I used to be unable to get enough of it! :P I never got around to Hush, Hush though.

Review: Mercy wrecks her trusty Rabbit on Black Friday but can't reach Adam or any of the Pack to come get her and Jesse, Adam's daughter. When she finally gets a tow to her garage, Ben is there in terrible shape from a silver bullet and a tranquilizer shot. The rest of the Pack has been kidnapped. Mercy steps into high gear to make sure the rest of the families of the Pack members are safe and then try to figure out where Adam and the Pack were taken. Mercy has to call in all of her associates among wolves, fae, and vampires at some point and, of course, the kidnapping is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the plot. Lots of action. Great story as usual.

Review - I knew that I'd never completed this book but checked it out from the library many times as a kid because the idea of a daemon, a little creature bound to me that could transform into various animals, was my dream. I'm not sure I've ever made it passed the first two chapters! Lyra's adventure was harrowing and enthralling, and I absolutely loved the 'magic system' (ok, armored bears are pretty freakin' cool too!). However, I didn't find this book at all 'readable'. I wonder if that's why I never made it far. I constantly felt like I was slogging and huge sections of the book were so incredibly unfun to read (this book seems to be more geared to a young YA audience so this was unexpected - it does read more like classic literature, in my opinion, but doesn't have Narnia's... pull). I still, overall, enjoyed the story and loved my time with Lyra and Pan (and Iorek, of course). I will be continuing Lyra's journey in anticipation of the TV show!

Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs
Book: Night Broken

Pages: 341
Qualifies: #313 on the Popular Vampires List
Rated: 5 stars

Review: Another great addition to the Mercy Thompson series. We have a triangle of sorts, never a favorite plot of mine. Adam's ex is being stalked and Adam takes her in. After last volume's clear indication that Christy was a self-centered woman who abandoned Adam when he needed her support, it was hard to see him let her back into his life enough to manipulate the Pack against Mercy. However, it did not show any lack of character on Mercy's part. She was still able to look at the overall dynamic and determine what was the most important issue and make that her priority, allowing other issues to fall into place as the major action proceeded. Still a strong protagonist securing her place in a strong relationship.

4 dead vampires on this one.

Review: It is after the hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, and even the backwater town of Bon Temps is feeling the effects of the destruction. The resident Queen of Louisiana, after the massive issues at the Giza hotel, where she went to face charges of murdering her husband, is recovering from the episode. This leaves the state of Louisiana in a vulnerable state.

Along with that, Alcide is not getting along with the pack leader, and her current boyfriend is missing.

This leads to a rollicking great adventure for Sookie and her friends and some that aren't such good friends.

Sookie gets a few surprises in this one, not the least of which is the one at the end of the book. That one I didn't expect. This made for a great overall book and I really think the author does a good job of making you feel what Sookie is feeling. There were also some very good fight scenes.

Well done to the author - these keep getting better although the beginning dragged a bit.
