Aaron Lawrence | 2 comments I read this probably in the 1980s, and it was my fathers book of short stories I think. So perhaps 60s or 70s.

A man finds a secret door in a house. Going through it he finds a summery lawn where a party is going in. He meets a beautiful woman.

Later, he has to leave. When he tried to return again, for some reason he is unable to.

It was a very sad story about finding happiness and then losing it. Left a lasting impression.

I thought it might have been JG Ballard, it had a surreal quality. It seemed English.

Aaron, I moved your request to the "Unsolved" folder because you're looking for a specific book.

The rockabilly werewolf from Mars | 1454 comments Fortunately, I have Ballard's collected short stories out from the library right now, so I will check if that matches up.

Ayshe | 4122 comments I've read something similar: "The Door in the Wall" by H.G. Wells maybe? It can be read here: https://www.online-literature.com/wel...

The rockabilly werewolf from Mars | 1454 comments Unless I missed a story, it probably isn't Ballard.

Aaron Lawrence | 2 comments Ok, thank you guys. Ayshe, it’s not the HG Wells story, the character was an adult when he found the place...
