Melissa (balletbookworm) | 915 comments Great task Bluemoon! :) Would the red writing for the title, author's name, and blurb for this edition of Death in the Andes by Mario Vargas Llosa Death in the Andes by Mario Vargas Llosa be enough red to qualify for the South America portion of the task (it's set in Peru)? Thanks!

message 103: by LouLouReads (last edited Oct 19, 2014 01:55PM) (new)

LouLouReads | 221 comments I'm not very good at colours on a screen--is The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd yellow enough for North America? I can't figure out whether it's yellow or beige.

Alternatively, the blurb for Among the Janeites A Journey Through the World of Jane Austen Fandom by Deborah Yaffe mentions talking to lawyers in Florida and attending the annual ball of the Jane Austen Society of North America. Is that sufficient proof of being located in the right continent?

Thanks for your help :)

Glad you like it!

Yes that works.

The top looks yellow to me so it works

For Among the Janeites A Journey Through the World of Jane Austen Fandom by Deborah Yaffe I am unable to tell just how much of the book takes place in N. America. If you do read it and more than 50% takes place in NA you are fine but I can't tell just from the description as it also says that she travels to Britain also.

Sorry

Melissa (balletbookworm) | 915 comments Hi again,
I just chatted with Ursula, who finished The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell for a different task, and she said that most of the book is set in England, Switzerland and Ireland. The bits not in Europe (Afghanistan and New York) definitely don't add up to half. Would this work for the Europe task then, Bluemoon? Thanks :)

Dee (austhokie) | 9004 comments for Africa:
The Perfect Happiness by Santa Montefiore - orange flower on the cover
Afrika by Colleen Craig - top half of the cover
The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson - orange stripe at bottom of cover/ may also work for Europe/blue if not 50% in Africa

The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran
The edging on the wing looks orange to me, but I wanted to be sure it's ok before using it for this task. Thanks!

message 115: by Tara (new)

Tara | 391 comments Has anyone read Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter ? Seems like it could work for either North America (yellow letters) or Europe (blue water). From the description it takes place in both places but wondering if anyone knows if it's more than 50% in one or the other. Thanks in advance.

message 116: by Cheri (new)

Cheri (jovali2) I read it (and enjoyed it!). It does take place on both continents, but my memory is that it is more in Italy than in America. I can't give you a percentage, though.

The Perfect Happiness by Santa Montefiore and The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson will work for Africa if at least 50% is set there. I am unable to tell from the descriptions.

The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden by Jonas Jonasson will also work for Europe if 50% is set there.

Afrika by Colleen Craig will work for Africa though.

This would work for either. Just depends on where most of the story is. I have not read it so I am sorry I cannot give anymore info on it.

It is definitely mostly in Italy. The final part of the book is in the US, but Italy is the central place in the story. And it's a good book!

Europe:

One Day by David Nicholls Only Time Will Tell (The Clifton Chronicles, #1) by Jeffrey Archer Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernières A Week in Winter by Maeve Binchy Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon

North America:

Jayme Pendergraft | 762 comments Hi,

Can I get this approved for South America?

At Night We Walk in Circles by Daniel Alarcón

It says it takes place in an unnamed South American Country.

Also, this for Asia? How to Be an American Housewife by Margaret Dilloway

I'd say half of it takes place in Japan.

Thanks!

Life of Pi by Yann Martel most of this takes place in the open ocean so I will have to say no to this one.

The Man From China by H.J. Rethuan from the description it looks like this takes place in Australia but if 50% of it flashes back to China then it will work.

Kiwi on a Cloud by Norm Aspen is not clear from the description how much takes place in New Zealand but if at least 50% is set there then it will work.
