This group has no polls. Add a new poll.

What is this? A poll is a way for anyone to pose a question to all the members in a group. No polls found.

♥ Rachel♥ (i_got_a_jar_of_dirt) | 26 comments LUCKY SILVER!!! :( i need a scholarship so badly...then again...i'm a freshman, so i have a couple years....

message 36: by Silver (new)

Silver I mean, if I get IN a college, it will be BECAUSE I got in for FREE.

Meaning, my parents' income is so low that the really good colleges will accept us for free if my test scores are high enough.... I think they might be... but since I'm a homeschooler I have to do all this extra stuff because they don't have any information about my school already...

and so am I, and so is the Rachel I know... or one of them lol.

message 37: by Casii (new)

Casii (sasii) both my parents are army so i can get into college easy but im still gonna try to get a scholarship

Silver At the moment I'm mostly concentrating on saving up for a violin...

My parents have about $700 saved up so far but they might use it for something else, plus I have &150 saved up but I really need that for christmas/birthday presents and winter clothes and stuff, and I'm not getting any more money from anywhere since I get stuck babysitting for free and my room isn't clean and no one can afford to hire a violinist for their weddings anymore... (I charge $100 now)

though I played my step grandfather's funeral this weekend and I'm not supposed to be paid since I'm family but it looks like they're mailing me a check anyway... I have no idea how much it will be, but I know that he was rich. Leaving half a million dollars to each of his kids.

so.... I'm just kind of hoping people will desperately need a violinist for their weddings because now for me it's so easy to play weddings, and not very stressful at all, it's actually kind of fun and I get $100 :)

Oh I should explain that my mom is the organist at my church and I have a really old, really pretty church that is popular for weddings, and we have a priest who basically lets anyone get married there even if they don't live in this state lolz.

message 39: by Silver (new)

Silver and the violins I'm looking at cost like $1600 - $2000.

message 40: by Silver (new)

Silver because my current violin is worth $800 which isn't very much, and the fingerboard is warped so my strings are too high off the fingerboard and they had to make the A string lower, which means it's annoyingly easy to hit the d and e strings while I'm trying to play the A string...

it really doesn't have a great tone. I didn't get into an orchestra I auditioned for and I really didn't think I'd get in, or if I did I'd be 2nd violinist, but my mom is convinced that it had a lot to do with my violin...

which is true, it would have been SO much easier to play the excerpts if I had a better violin....

okay I'll stop now, I'm probably boring anyone who isn't obsessed with violins ;)

Silver My mom is thinking I'd like Brown University or whatever it's called.... she says I wouldn't have to go in to music but I could still have insteresting music classes...

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

what the crap is that?

message 44: by Silver (new)

Silver *mutters* Um, some college. Like, one of the better colleges who will accept people with really good grades for free.

message 45: by Silver (new)

Silver I found it:

Financial Aid Initiatives Unique to Brown University
Brown University is committed to assisting families in meeting their demonstrated financial need. Several financial aid initiatives, unique to Brown, have been developed in order to better assist our families. The following is an overview of these initiatives.

Undergraduate financial aid applicants with total parent incomes less than $100,000, at the time of admission, do not have a loan component in their awards. Students with family earnings above $100,000 have moderate loans ($3,000, $4,000 or $5,000) depending on family total income level.
Families with total parent earnings less than $60,000 and assets less than $100,000 are not required to make a contribution toward the cost of education.
Families with total parent earnings less than $60,000 and assets greater than $100,000 have a significantly reduced contribution ( from assets only)
Students are able to use outside scholarships to eliminate all of the student-effort components in their awards including the summer savings expectation.
