Cheryl Coppens | 358 comments This was a GR giveaway and oh what an incredible story. Taking place in 1944 = 1945 this is the story of a young Jewish/German boy, an SS officer so disgusted by what's going on he is determined to let the world know what's really happening in Germany, and an American of German descent drawn in to world events because of his German heritage. The book is heartbreaking, sad, and cruel, but also hopeful and inspiring. Like many WWII novels we are shown how low we as humans can sink and how others manage to bring out the best in themselves and others. The book is based on actual events and people. The authors notes at the end of the book were an excellent and informative read that just added to the story. A definite 5 star read.
