This is the nominations thread for November's Book of the Month & Group Buddy Read. Just a friendly reminder that it's always a good idea to look over the guidelines if you've never nominated before.

Feel free to nominate any Christian fiction book of your choosing, whether it fits in with the monthly challenge (November-Spell it out challenge) - check this link for more info) or a novel by the CFD author of the month for November (Michelle Griep), or it's just a CF novel you've been itching to read, so long as you follow the guidelines and the book released AT LEAST three months ago (no later than August 2019).

PLEASE REVIEW THESE GUIDELINES:
-Please do not nominate a book we've already read as a group in the last three years. You will be asked for a different nomination if you do. Find our shelves here:
2018 - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
2017 - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
2016 - https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

-Remember that a book must be out for 3 months or more to be eligible for nominations and voting

-Any author is up for nomination, as long as the book you nominate has not been a group read during 2016-2018, however, try not to nominate an author that we've read this year already.

-If it is a book in a series that is not the first book, make sure you know that it can be read as a standalone and doesn't require the previous books being read to understand and enjoy.

-Please note that there may be more reasons that a book is not a good fit for nominations or group members as a whole, whether it be availability, cost, accessibility, etc. The moderators reserve the right to make these decisions. Please know we do our best in making these kinds of decisions, and we're all human. Your patience is appreciated. Thank you for your understanding! :)

Nominations will be open through September 15.

Jaime, I'm not familiar with that author. Is Fallen Masters a Christian book? It didn't look like it from the summary and it is not tagged as Christian, but I thought I'd check with you. Thoughts?

I'll nominate Then There Was You by Kara Isaac

It is set in Australia so would be great for our passport challenge.

Loraine, we read Then There Was You last year, so it isn’t eligible right now. Is there another book you would like to nominate?

(I agree it would have been perfect with that setting!)

Sarita, this is a book three in a series, and some things will be spoiled for readers who haven’t read the previous two books. Is there another book you’d like to nominate?

We've read book 1 and 2 as a group this year, so can't see it being an issue? And we vote now for books to read so can't see that this book will be an issue?

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 3558 comments Mod
Sarita, the previous two books weren't read as Book of the Month or Group Buddy Reads, rather as regular Buddy Reads. Not everyone participates in that who might participate in the BOTM or GBR, so I think this rule of Beth's does apply:

If it is a book in a series that is not the first book, make sure you know that it can be read as a standalone and doesn't require the previous books being read to understand and enjoy.

Since there are major spoilers for the series in An Hour Unspent, I don't feel comfortable making an exception here. I'm sorry. Perhaps suggesting it in the Read With a Buddy folder would be a better fit?

message 13: by Sarita (new)

Sarita | 1695 comments It actually was the Group read of the month (it was voted in by the members) not normal buddy read. We read A name unknown first and then A song unheard last month.

But it’s fine - leave it if it is causing issues

Oh! (facepalm) There wasn't a link in Beth's post for books read in 2019, and I did not even think to look for it. Sarita, I am so sorry for not catching that. Those books weren't in the lists I had because I didn't look at what we had read already this year. Silly me! (Taking notes on this year's shelf now.)

We normally don't do multiple books by the same author within three years, but since the other two have been read this year, I guess that "rule" has already been excepted.

I'll get An Hour Unspent posted in the nominations. Thank you so much for talking through this with me and helping me know to look for that other bookshelf our our group's.

I will nominate Close to You by Kara Isaac which is set in New Zealand so would also work for the Passport Challenge.
