It's certainly mean to be one of the best books on modern backgammon strategy around, but how do you make the best of it?

You should learn basic terms and jargon considering backgammon from this book. You also learn some very basic things. After that you must continue to more advanced books, because this isn't going to get you above good intermediate level alone.
