I'm Cici.
I love to read just like anyone else on Goodreads :) Currently, I am obsessed with mostly young adult books, I cannot get enough of them, though I like to read almost anything.
My interests are my family,my kids, boyfriend, hair, make-up (I'm a hair stylist), interesting people, fun times, and of course reading..
My cousin Jenn and I are on Goodreads all the time and decided to make this group so we have more people to talk to about books, movies or any other interests.

Hi everyone who has recently joined! I know me and Cici have been MIA for a few days, but we have had the labor day weekend, and I recently had surgery. I know this site is fairly new and we are just starting to get it up and running, but please hang in there, and remember INTRODUCE YOURSELVES AT LEAST! We love to meet everyone and encourage everyone to feel welcome, because you are! Keep on reading, and share your thoughts with us-- your book may be our next goodread!

Hello, I am another Jenn, from another dimension. Just kidding, I just liked how that rhymed. I have known CiCi and Jennifer on Goodreads since summertime and I am so happy that they have invited me into their new, fun group! I am a high school teacher, and I often whine about checking papers. But Christmas break is coming, and along with giving my house a super-dooper good clean, I would like to read 3 or 4 books over the break.

I love fiction, but occasionally you will find a good biography on my nightstand. Sometimes not so good, as I found with Maureen McCormack's this summer (I grew up with the Brady Bunch and still have a very odd fascination with them). My To Be Read pile is growing at an exponential rate and I am on a self-imposed spending freeze while I watch it dwindle. At least, this is what I tell myself, but when I see a book I want on the Barnes and Noble bargain shelf, I go nuts! I can't control myself. Same with cake. And cookies. And sometimes Cheetos.

I am so happy to see that you joined our little club! We are small but cozy here. Feel free to post and reply and much or little as you want. Also we do group reads, it started out as one book a month, and has grown to two. But of course this is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. But it is fun to see everyone's comments. Also we like to see what everyone is reading and how they like it. Most of the people in DBJ (Desperate BookJunkies) are voracious readers and are always looking for a good read! Welcome, and if you ever need anything or have any questions, just send me or cici a message! TTYS

Jennifer

Just wanted to say hello to our new members "Jenn" and "D.J. Webber" author of "Oom", which I recommend highly!
We are so glad to have you both in our cozy little group. Please feel free to browse, post or just check in every now and then. Thank you to David (D.J) for joining and allowing us the opportunity to personally pick him and his book apart! All in good fun, of course. Also if anyone has the opportunity you should head on over to D.J's "Oom" page on goodreads.com, and find out how to become an "Oomling"! Take care everyone, keep in touch.

Sincerely,
Jennifer (Your friend, and Moderator)

I'd like to welcome Sanya to DBJ (Desperate BookJunkies). Feel free to browse around, let us know what you are reading, and introduce yourself! We are happy to have ya, if you need anything or have any questions please contact myself (Jennifer Squire) or (Cici) your administrators!

message 7: by D.J. (new)

D.J. Webber (djwebber) | 2 comments Hi Jennifer and everyone,
Merry christmas from Sweden. Thanks for inviting me to the group. I love good books but I don't read enough. I always leave reading until I'm in bed when I'm too tired. I am currently reading non-fiction "Big Bang" by Simon Singh. I'll review it when I'm done. I have also just started Wuthering Heights. I always try and read too many books at once.

message 8: by Jennifer, Owner/Moderator (new)

Jennifer (desperatebookjunkie) | 205 comments Mod
David, I am in the process of reading Wuthering Heights, we will have to discuss it sometime.

Sanya,
We have MANY Jodi Piccoult fans in DBJ (Desperate BookJunkies), myself included. My favorite is "Change of Heart", "Mercy", "Handle with Care" and-- of course "My Sister's Keeper" (in no particular order). Which are your favorites?

If you havn't read "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins that would be a great book to expand on. Don't worry about the Monthly Reading for DBJ, its just for fun! :)

Also I am getting ready to read Lovely Bones, after I finish "Roots" Alex Haley (I am almost done) and "Oom" by D.J. Webber (one of our prestigious members) ;)

So feel free to explore the boards, and have fun!

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Sonya,

Welcome to our little group, might I suggest a book called The Master Butchers Singing Club by Louise Erdrich. I found it infinitly interesting and the characters are well developed. Another of my favorites is called Rococco by Adriana Trigiani and I also love her Big Stone Gap series.

Happy New Year.

Jenn

Welcome Jessica! Our group is growing slowly but surely! I am happy to have you. Please feel free to post a little about yourself, and browse some of the other discussion threads. Also remember that we offer an optional group read, but are pretty relaxed on when we decide to read. Also it is completely optional. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me (Jennifer) or Cici (your administrators) and we will be happy to help you out.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Squire

PS-DBJ members, if you have friends on your goodreads profile, consider referring them to our group! The more the merrier!

Jess, lol, I usually try to welcome everyone as soon as they are accepted in DBJ. Everyone here is family to me! I am happy that you have been such an active member. I love talking with people and sometimes with such a hectic life as a mom, student, etc. I don't get very much adult communication. SO you guys are my lifeline to the "real" world lol. Take care, and thanks again for joining!

message 13: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 5 comments Greetings Desperate Readers - I think I am the new kid on the block so I will just take a moment of your time to introduce myself. Kirsten here - former eighth grade English/American History teacher recently finished my Masters in library science and landed a position as a media specialist (high-tech school librarian) at a middle school in my district. Avid reader - I usually read quite a bit of YA during the school year, but will only read adult titles in my time off. Cici can attest to this - she tried to get me to read The Hunger Games last summer, but I held strong to my Thomas Jefferson Biography. With two adult sons away at school I am soon to become an empty nester when my youngest son heads off to college in the fall. Since I am a broke college mother I do quite a bit of book trading on a site called Paperback Swap.com - Some of you might just love this site - I do

Happy Reading

Kirsten, thanks for posting! I am happy to have you. We have all pretty much read the Hunger Games, it was a great book. You will be an interesting addition to our club because you like to read non-fiction, perhaps you might be able to suggest a few that would be enjoyable to those of us who prefer fiction?
I have read a few non-fiction books that were mandatory by school, and every once in awhile I am surprised that I enjoy them. Thanks for joining, and I look forward to "talking" with you throughout our threads and posts!

Well everyone I know I have been missing alot lately. Many of you know about the divorce I am currently going through. It has been a very difficult time. I miss you all dearly and I want to thank Jenn our new moderator for stepping up and taking a leadership spot only she could fill. Thank you Jenn. Also please notice I have finally gotten around to adding your name to our DesperateBookJunkie Icon! I apologize for not getting it done sooner, but I am extremely grateful to be able to see it there!

I will be making my way around DBJ again, so to all the wonderful people who make this group special, thank you.

Your Moderator,
Jenna

I have missed you Jennifer! I am happy to see a bit of the chipper old you, and I could obviously not fill your shoes as moderator. I hope that there are more good days than bad and that you stay well.

Meanwhile, eat a few cookies (not too many) and don't forget to include yourself in the list of people you need to take care of during this huge transition in your life. Indulge a little, you deserve it.

Have you had a chance to pick up a book lately? I would love to hear what you have to say . . .

I miss you all dearly-- for the new members please forgive my abrupt absences, my husband and I are going through a divorce after eight years and two affairs (his not mine). Bear with me, but I think of you guys often!

Oh lord, I tried to take a break and give my husband a chance to spend time with his kids before we move to Alabama. It sounded like a win-win situation for eveyrone at the time. But when i was gone he filed a emergency restraining order against me and i cannot go within 500 feet of him, our children, or our residence... so now we have to battle this out in court. I have been reading but unfortunatly they are not things I can enjoy-- "How to cope with separation and divorce", "Helping your children through difficult divorces", and "Nolo's legal guide to contested divorces"... ugh, my brain is melting! Although I finally started a normal book "The Coffin Dancer" I heard it is amazing. Anyone hear of it?

Now since youve talked about cooking we would all like something specially prepared for our group, perhaps a drink?

PS- All members, please welcome Curt, he is a personal friend of mine and has been a strong supporter for me during my divorce and fight for my children. THank you Curt.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey all you happy book reading people like me :o)
It's Steve the pirate or cop if you saw my last pic I had up...I keep changing like a shapeshifting wackadoo. I went from cop to pirate cause I thought geez both are occupations that involve drinking right. I mean rum, scotch whatever.
Anyway's I had those MRE's one time. My brother in-law gave me some back when he was in the air force and let me tell ya those things really give ya the runs oh my god...not funny at all...I'll take Cici's tacos Curt...I think they give them to you while you are deployed so you will get so ticked off and missing good old home cooked food that you'll get the job done that much quicker over there dang it. Maybe what we need to do is send you over there with some tacos and some of Paula Dean's cooking and show those terrorists what they are missin if they keep going and blowing themselves up. Personally the last person I'd give an MRE to is a Marine. I mean is our government just looking to piss off there craziest meanest bunch of gun toting military personel or what
Hey Curt maybe instead of phone cards being sent to the troops it should be gift cards to the Olive Garden or Red Robin for when you all get back.
